According to myth Leto fled Mount Olympus after a domestic dispute with Hera, Zeus' jealous wife in order to protect her kids Appollo and Artemis. She did a good job as the site boasts 3 temples erected in her honour. Local shepherd's tried to evict...More

Went here last after Xanthos and Patara and this sanctuary is the smallest site with more seemingly religious significance. Spend a bit more time at the others as this only has a few temples and a spring with some small turtles in one of the...More

Visited here yesterday afternoon, it is a bit out of the way, not the eadiest place to get here. There is a decent sized theatre, half a temple, lots of rubble. Lotd of turtles in the ponds and some lizards. At ten lira its not...More

It’s not a bad ancient city but there’s much better cities to visit in the area...Tlos being the best closest to Fethiye. Was it worth my time, yes but I only spent about 20 minutes there and then moved on to another city.

This site had few visitors and its temples were principally platforms with some restored columns at the last temple. There is a lot of water seepage now which adds to the allure of the place. In the Apollo Temple if you ignore the signs and...More

I went on a family trip with my husband and our two children aged 6 years and my baby 4 months. First of all we booked the “bungalow” thinking it would be nice to be a little separate from other rooms so people don’t get...More

We were the only people there, and this was a fun stop on our tour of the coast. Not exactly a destination point in itself for the average tourist, but well worth it if you are close. The Temple of Leto is pretty impressive and...More

Visited 2 years ago and there was noone else there. You could walk in and on the ruins. Visited this month and now small areas are fenced off where restoration is going on. Places we took photos on and next to are now cordoned off...More

This is an easy site to find in the car and is interesting. The French have been restoring the theatre, which is in good shape. The temples of Artemis and Apollo only really survive as platforms, but the temple of Leto has been restored in...More

I walked to Letoon from Xanthos, which was rather a stupid thing to do in the heat. I suggest you take a taxi or hire a bike or car. The site is still being excavated, but the amphitheatre is is quite good condition and there...More

Itinerary for a few days in this area (9 Replies)
Need some help with an itinerary for a few days in this area. I would like to see some of the ancient tombs, some ancient sites, as well as do a Lycian day hike. We are spending 2 nights in Bezirgan, 1 night in Kalkan, and 1 night in Antalya. Some of the places i'm interested in would be *Pinara*, Fethiye, Tlos, Letoon, Xanthos, Myra (don't need to see all of these, but as many as possible) , and possibly Saklikent gorge and definately some of *Lycian Way*. We are renting a car. As it stands,...More

forgot to add.. Cirali is the eastern end of the famous Lycian Way. Lycian Way is one of the best long distance trekking routes in the World. route starts from Fethiye, ends at Antalya. The popular trekking routes passing through Cirali are Cirali – Ulupinar – Chimaera (Yanartaş), Cirali – Maden Koyu – Phaselis – Tekirova, Cirali – Olympos – Musa Dağı – Adrasan, Cirali – Beycik – Tahtalı Dağı. Most of the routes are marked with red and white signs.

First time Trip report to Kalkan (23 Replies)
Just returned from a fabulous 2 weeks in Kalkan so I thought I would share some info that may help people who have never visited before........ Transfer from Dalaman Airport..........decided to hire a care from Economy rentals for 2 weeks @ £320 as hubby is a very competent driver. Very interesting driving in a strange Country, on the wrong side of the road in the pitch black but we got there; quite a straight forward run but took us 2 hours. Turkish drivers change lanes for no reason so to...More

AnnaEllieB, what a fabulous and informative report. It was really good of you to take the time to do this and I am sure your latest edition will help many people who are soon to be going to Kalkan for the first time, or even just contemplating going. Well done and I really enjoyed it. Antler
