So glad I got to see this wonderful ritual while in Turkey. It was a very moving spiritual ceremony but important to read up about it before hand if you do not speak Turkish. It takes place in a wonderful modern specially designed theatre. The spinning Whirling dervishes perform a dance called the sema. It is a religious dance performed... More

Watching this dance was one of the reasons I came to Konya. The dervish originated in Konya and this is an authentic experience. The dance lasted quite a while; we arrived late and still saw many rounds of them spinning. I was somewhat surprised that the music was live and not recorded and this just added to the genuineness of... More

For some, this might be the beginning of a spiritual journey that is likely to last for a lifetime. Just buy the tickets, be there an hour before the performance, hang around the exhibition where many Ottoman and Seljuk art forms are exhibited along with local tastes before the show and then enjoy this immense experience that starts with a... First in Konya you must go to see the Dervish performance! It is every Saturday at 19:00 pm, free of charge. Off season you don't have to be there until right before 19.00, there is huge capacity of seating! The arena and the amphitheater is enormous. The ceremony is very nice and a must see in Konya! If you go... More

The sema held every Saturday at 7:00pm at the Mevlana Cultural Center is free. The program starts with an explanation of what to expect, and gives the historical background of the performance. The whirling dervishes are a delight to watch, but what I personally found more amazing was the hypnotic singing and music. The whole experience is truly unique and... More

Very good to see the ceremony live in a very nicely purpose built building. There is a free ceremony every Saturday at 19:00 all year round and also on Thursdays during the summer at Mevlana cultural center 10 minutes walking distance from the Mevlana Museum.

If you are in Konya on a day where the whirling dervishes perform at the Mevlana Museum then make sure to enjoy it! It is a unique performance. Takes less than an hour and it is free.
