We planned visiting Konya on a Saturday in order to catch the sema at the Mevlana Cultural Center. I made reservations at the Hilton because it is across the street from the center. It was a little difficult to find the winter starting time on their website. It is at 7 pm sharp in winter months so, don't be late.... More

Went to Konya for the annual celebration and was only there for one night. On this night, the sema was on at the sports and congress stadium which holds 10000 guests. Based on the number of people and size of the venue, it didn't 'feel' like a ceremony and felt more of a 'show'. If you're going to see this,... More

We really enjoyed the visit - it is very spiritual. It's done daily during Mevlana festival time (11 - 17 Dec) in normal days it's only every Saturday. You need to book in Advance through the Internet. The show starts around 7:30 with a concert, then a speech and finally the sema dance (whirling Dervishes). The show finishes around 10:00... More

I see some people consider it a show for tourists. They couldn't be more wrong, and it's also the reason why I didn't wanna see it in Istanbul - but saved it for the Mevlana cultural centre in Konya. This is the real Sama ritual, from people in the Mevlevi order - who don't care if there is a tourist... More

Dervish dance is a good performance for tourists. I was also under impression. Before speaker asked for silence to let them concentrate and start their praying. It was beautiful to see how 10 men are whirling. How was my surprise when the same guys afterwards danced dances from Black Sea and some others from Anatolia. When they finished I met... More

Konya is the city where the Mevleviyye order of the Sufi was founded by Mevlâna, in the 13th century. The adept of this order are also known as “Whirling Dervishes” and are worldwide famous for their spectacular ritual, 'called “Sama” and based on whirling. In many places the Sama is performed in the form of a show for tourists, in... More

We happened to arrive in Konya on a Saturday, staying at the Hilton Garden Inn and were surprised by our good fortune of being able to witness the Semah service. Worth planning a trip to Konya for a aturday when the service is held.

I have been in there , in 2008 December for watching Semah ceremony. After 7 years, my hotel Hilton Garden Inn Konya is next to the ceremony hall. Also, you can walk from Mawlana Museum. Just 15 min.

This was an amazing performance given by the group which performed the Sema service at the Mevlana Centre.
