About
This weekly dance ritual, performed by members of the Mevlevi Order, is a must-see in Konya. The beautiful and spiritual Sema ceremony lasts an hour and consists of various parts, starting with a story that's told (an English recording is available), followed by the dancers whirling in a mesmerizing performance. The colored lighting marks the different stages of the journey. The pace may be a bit slow for some, so think twice before bringing your kids. Experience the performance along a tour of Konya, which often includes a stop at the Mevlana Muzesi and other Turkish sites of spiritual significance. – Tripadvisor

- Tukang UlinBandung, Indonesia53 contributionsDon't miss Mevlana Whirling Dervishes in KonyaFortunately in high peak seasons, we got the HST ticket from Ankara. Arrival in Konya on time, spend time by walking from Konya Tren Garı to Zafer Meydanı passing great Park, Atatürk Statue. Buy Konya City Transportation Card for 20TL filled with enough deposit for explore the Konya point of interest until getting main destination Mevlana Cultural Center. After take lunch with baked potato (Kumpir) and Künefe, walking around to Museum Stone and Wood (unfortunately closed, is being renovated), try pasing Alladin Hill, go to Karatay Madrasah, Alladin Mosque. Riding city tram to get to Mevlana. Take Noon prayer (combined with Ashar prayer for travellers) p at Sultan Selim Mosque. A great time ti explore the Mevlana Museum at free entry fee. Since have time until 7pm for watching Mevlana Whirling Dervishes, back to Hükümet Meydanı and passing Şerafettin Mosque until Alladin Tram Station. Take tram and finally getting off at Mevlana Cultural Center. The Mevlana Whirling Dervishes start on time at 7pm until 8pm. The show was great performance with various age of performer from children ages to old men. After performance completely done, riding tram back to Zafer Meydanı and catch last HST train leaving for Ankara, and get off at Eryaman HST station. Very happy and enjoy traveling to Konya.Visited November 2023Traveled with friendsWritten November 13, 2023

You kind of need to be into this to enjoy it.we went in late November and there was zero problem just getting a ticket at the door. Some things that could definitely be improved: If there are guides or recordings for other language, some signage should be around for that. Signage reminding people to silence phones, not talk during the ceremony, not climb into the arena for their photos, etc. Wherever there are people, there will be people acting dumb! At any rate, thanks to the Cultural center for their work in preserving and sharing their heritage!Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 27, 2023
- Cathy H6 contributionsFabulous evening with the Whirling DervishesMesmerizing. Walked over from our lovely, traditional Konak Hotel, Konya Dervish Hotel. To the Mevlana Cultural Center. Bought affordable tickets at the door, no problem, no reservation. The center was not full so plenty of choices for seating. Can pretty much see show from any seat. Was a beautiful show even with not having any explanation of anything in English. Lovely to just watch and enjoy.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 27, 2024
- Charles_and_SusanNottingham, United Kingdom7,329 contributionsA mesmorising performanceThis is a "must see" activity to add to your itenerary. We saw it in a local Caravanserai and it was a very intimate area where the ceremony was perfomed. Three Whirling Dervishes performing with one other passing amongst them as they performed. The whirling was mesmorising at times as they built up from slow to more quickly. It wasn't a whizzing around like you often see in films but a more measured whirling, stately like. After the full performance they did a short session where photos were allowed.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 23, 2024
- Laura LSydney, Australia21 contributionsA beautiful cultural performanceAn incredible cultural performance; the Whirling Dervish were simply amazing to watch. Tickets were only 100 Turkish lira, the performance lasted an hour and there were ample seats available. I recommend reading up on the history before you go to really understand this experience :)Visited July 2024Traveled with friendsWritten September 4, 2024

In summer 2022, the dance is at the Mevlana cultural center, on the edge of the complex, across from the Hilton Garden hotel. It starts at 19.00 on Saturdays. The hotel told us (and showed us the tourist map) noting the performance is outside and free. But on arriving it was inside in a nice, huge auditorium and cost 30tlr per person. It was busy but the place is huge so a big choice of seating. We didn't really know what to expect as we couldn't find much info. It started promptly at 19.00. The first 20 min is the telling of the story in Turkish and then some music. Then the dancers, dressed first in black, walk in a circle, one by one bowing to each other for a long period of time. Then they start to whirl one by one. It is very cool to see but the ritual goes on and on. They then stop whirling and start walking in a circle, and one by one (20 dancers) bow to the head guy then whirl again. After about an hour we, along with some others, did decide to leave. It is very slow. So stop by if you are in the area, but don't make this a destination in itself.

Doors open at 18 and you can get cash tickets at the entrance. It’s online for free, but as of September 2024, there’s a total of 150 Lira, Student card with a discounted ticket of 100 Lira. Honeymoon just at 19 and ends at 8:15. A small gift exhibition is open downstairs. They promote religious convergence, it’s prohibited to applaud. This place is affiliated with the Ministry, belongs to the IRFA central municipality, and offers free performances for Fridays and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.

We loved it!
The show is every Saturday evening at 7pm (today is August 19th) at the Mevlana Kultur Merkezi (a 5/10 minute walk from the Mevlana Museum).
Cost 50 Turkish Lira.
It lasts one hour and is located in the cultural center in a large circular theater.
The capacity is really very large.

Made the visit here and yes it was more of a show than a spiritual gathering or event. Was left disappointed but would recommend you definitely go there if you are in the area. The performance is at 7pm on Saturdays. This is a newish is a new area with a few complexes/buildings that are definitely worth visiting.

Excellent show to know more about the dancing of the dervishes. Very well organized, perfect scenery and music. They show us the typical dance of meditation accompanied by traditional instruments as well as flute and drums. I highly recommend it.
