Gaziantep Castle dominates the city skyline standing atop the central city hill.
It's located downtown in the very center close to bazaar and other attractions.
Entry fee is symbolic - slightly more than a dollar believe it or not.
The interior of the Castle is converted into an excellent local history museum. It depicts events from pre WWI era, over British and French occupation onward. Museum path follows the castle layout while you walk centuries old stone blocks. Every event is described with photos, dioramas, small monuments and 3D boards. Each has English explanation and info.
After the museum you exit to the top open terrace. Here you can admire best 360' city views and visit the old Mosque and Hammam ruins.
At night the Castle is beautifully lit.
Gaziantep castle is the best thing to do in this city along with the Zeugma Mosaic museum - totally recommend.

The castle is very intact and large. It houses a museum that documents the Armenian uprising and the bravery of the local Turks in suppressing this rebellion. It was perhaps helpful to get this perspective although Armenian friends and others would be deeply offended.

It’s free for academics/teacher and student. It’s on a small hill. You don’t exhaust climb the top. Through passage you can see some pictures about historical event of Gaziantep, especially about independent of city. Don’t expect good panoramic place on the top. I think that there was a cafe before pandemic.

My last visit about 8 years ago, the castle wasn't completely open. Only the museum was open. My visit this time was intended to see the castle. Obviously there was excavation before as the archeologists identified a mosque and hammam. There is no further information yet but I suspect there are many more to excavate.
Not to forget the view of the castle from outside. It looked plain but from near, it was beautiful.

This old castle in in the centre of the old town of Gaziantep. You cannot miss it as it is well worth the visit.

This was first built by the Hittite Empire as an observation point and later built into a main castle by the Roman Empire on top of a hill in the centre of Gaziantep, Turkey in 2nd and 3rd century AD

The Castle had some renovation under Emperor Justinianus between 527 and 565 AD. The circumference of the round shaped castle is 1200 metres. The walls are built of stone and the castle consists of 12 towers.

The castle has been renovated numerous times and took its final shape in 2000.

Today, the castle is used as the Gaziantep Defence and Heroism Panoramic Museum, and a documentary regarding the defence of the city against the invading French troops after the fall of the Ottoman Empire runs periodically.

For 2 liras you get to climb to the castle and have a great view of the city. Inside of the castle there is a small war museum. On the top there is a small coffee shop.

The Castle is probably the most recognizable landmark in the city of Gaziantep. You can currently enter in for free but there is only a very small part of it accessible to the public. This part is loaded propaganda that shares a "mostly true" account the "heroic Turkish patriots" who defended the city from the "vile French aggressors" who were only trying to enforce the Treaty of Sevres. It is great if one is interested in seeing blatant misinformation Turkish style. For the rest, take your selfies from the outside and then move on to something better.
