This monastery is stand out. We were shown around and each of the rooms/caves explained as to original use. Was magnificent. Added highlight was sharing Turkish tea and beautiful apricots under huge old apricot trees. Highly recommend. Very natural and not touristy.

This site has the ruins of an old monastery. What made it beautiful for me were the cherry blossom and apple trees across the area. We could see the kitchen, the graves, and it was a pleasant half hour visit.

This was definately one of our favourite places we visited whilst on our was to Soganli Valley. Just tucked away off the main road, this amazingly peaceful spot has such amazing history, with one of its churched dating back to the 9th century, with ceiling fresco that look like they were painted last year. The man who owns we so hospitable. He allowed us to roam about on our own (great fun), and then greeted us at the end with a couple of glasses of Cay and a couple of apples from his orchard. He then told us about the history of this christian monastry, showing us and explaining the amoazing frescos in the main church. A lovely man who made our visit very special. Although there is a small charge to enter (5TL)...no museum cards...it is such an amazing place. When we visited, there were no other tourists there, which made it even more of a great place to go....a definate must see. (take care if taking young children or if unsteady on your feet and there are some areas that could prove dangerous)

Good spot to visit on the blue route. Lost of history and unique artwork. The serpent they refer to him fighting was a dragon I believe

The entry fee is 5TL and guide Cabir who shows you the undamaged but very dark fresco's in the main church hall. An additional strong torch is handy, but no photo's are allowed. You can buy a set of postcards from the guide and these are more clear than the images on the ceiling. The rest of the complex you can visit yourself. Name plates are at the doors. The most interesting aspects of this monastry are the spring, the rolling stone and the gardens around the buildings. In the very past the monks also would have maximalized the soil around the stone houses and used the pigeon fertilizer. Afterwards we had a nice tea with Cabir, while workers were busy flattening the area for a planned 200 persons dinnerparty.

This is my second visit to this often overlooked monastery. Beautiful, small, quiet location not overrun by tourists, great frescoes, and a nice personal tour by the caretaker, Cabir. Cabir is an older village man who made the effort to learn enough English to tell about the stories from the Bible that each fresco portrayed. He's a devout Muslim but carefully and respectfully told these biblical stories. We were so impressed by his care and attention. No photos are allowed in the main chapel to help preserve the decaying frescoes but there are sets of postcards for sale (cheap) which show the main frescoes. You can take photos in the other areas. Our lovely visit was topped of with a delicious cup of çay served by Cabir’s wife, signing the guest book, and a look at various books which mention Cabir as the expert caretaker of the monastery. We were charmed by this sweet couple and the quiet beautiful setting of this sight.

Stunning views of the monastery, all very intricately carved into the caves. Climbing up can be quite straining for people who are older, as the steps are slippery. Nice views of the set featured in Star Wars.

WORTHWHILE VISIT-BIT TIRING GETTING TO THE TOP. interesting visit and experience-climbing up is a bit tricky at some points so bear that in mind for older people and children. Views are also stunning.

If you want to visit a monastery that is slightly off the beaten track, this would be it. The owner gives a personalised tour and the history is very interesting
