- Jolie JGatineau, Canada325 contributionsStunningThis was one of the stops on the 2 day trip from Antalya to Cappadocia with ExcursionGo. This was definitely one of my favorite spots, it's absolutely stunning. Everywhere I looked was extremely picturesque. I wish the stop was longer because there is a hike you can do to the top of one of the mountains which must have a stunning view, but the stop wasn't long enough for that. I had enough time to talk around a little though. They sell snacks and drinks around this area too. Would love to go back someday and take my time visiting.Visited January 2024Traveled soloWritten April 16, 2024
- Eniko L16 contributionsBeyond the castleThe castle is not the main reason to go to Cappadocia but well worth a visit. Make sure you walk back to Goreme from there trough the valley because it's equally as interesting as the castle itself. Cappadocia is an amazing place. We could have spent more than a week there exploring every day. And it was my second time!Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 2, 2024
- masdesid65San Giuliano Terme, Italy1,064 contributionsA huge volcanic rockThe fortress of Uchisar, which seems to embrace the small and characteristic village below, dominates the landscape of Cappadocia, suddenly rising from the surrounding plain making it visible from kilometers away (it is the highest point in Cappadocia 1270 m above sea level). The fortress is nothing more than an imposing volcanic tuff rock perforated by a labyrinth of windows and tunnels. Thanks to a dark internal staircase, which continues with an external path, it is possible to reach the top and admire one of the most beautiful views of the entire region. Practical information: entry €2.50. There are two panoramic points that offer spectacular views of the fortress. The first is located on the road that connects Uchisar with Ortahisar (Turgut Ozal Cd.), a couple of kilometers before entering the village, the other on the provincial road towards Goreme. The latter is particularly fascinating at dawn, when the hot air balloons rise above the Cappadocia sky, even touching the fortress.Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 2, 2024
- ally_monyOradea, Romania81 contributionsNice walk around the cityWe didn't enter the castle, as the entrance fee was 250 TL per person and we didn't think it was worth it, after seeing its twin but a bit smaller mountain across the street, Tiraz castle. But it was nice to see even from below and especially from the back. The city itself is also very nice, with stone houses and roads. It's worth a visit.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 3, 2024
- PartoappenapossoRome, Italy161 contributionsNot to be missed if you are in Cappadocia!Uchisar can be seen from a distance, the castle, which is a spur of rock, seems to call for a visit. I feel like I am in a book by Terry Brooke (even the name of the place is perfect), the village is suggestive, and the view is spectacular at sunset. Beautiful to admire this place also from the neighboring hills, from which completely changes the perspective.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 3, 2024
- paolo s16 contributionsRemarkable panoramaI start from 250 Turkish lira (including children): this year the cheap has decided to massacre European tourists everywhere ... Climbing about 300 steps to Uchisar Castle Lovely view of the valley, to do If you find the right day without clouds the panoramic view is really extended Personally I appreciated more the view from below (perhaps the most beautiful and characteristic of all Cappadocia) Guides judge it dangerous because last year 2 Japanese tourists died and do not accompany us x not take responsibility In fact, even with children, we have not seen these dangersVisited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 22, 2024
- kohechinToyama, Japan3,899 contributionsThe view is the best ~!, the toilet sucks (laughs)I visited in August 2023. (Sorry for the late review) During the Cappadocia sightseeing, I visited on tour. The scenery is stunning and a must-visit. There was a souvenir shop, which was nice, but the toilet was the worst (laughs). You shouldn't use the toilet here.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 9, 2024
- magnosa_1453Konya, Türkiye31 contributionsCappadocia PanoramaLocated in the town of Uffisar, it’s a lookout point where you can view the entire Cappadocia region. If you drive in person, municipal parking is available near the castle. Like many structures in the area, the castle is carved into a rock. Sometimes you can hit the summit with stairs from the inside and sometimes the outside. It’s not a good trip for heart-infected, older age groups, people with walking impairments, pregnant women, and families with kids who love to move around. I recommend bringing water with comfortable clothing and shoes. While it’s a steady climb up, you can get out of the place with both wide stairs and stops (sightseeing spots and benches). Once on top, you''ll find a unique view. (Important Note!!! We planned the castle as the end point of our trip to Cappadocia. This allows us to identify places you’ve been to more easily from a perspective. The view you take is more meaningful. For instance, you can more easily define this spot as the Valley of Love, See It, etc.)Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 10, 2024
- Fearless080426485109 contributionsa huge castlethe scenery is spectacular. it’s definitely worth a visit—the city is right under your feet, plus there’s viewing, tea, and ayran. A bus departs every half hour from Nevşehir and Goreme to Uçhisar, which is how you can arrive.Visited September 2024Traveled with friendsWritten September 13, 2024

Cappadocia is full of stunning landscapes. This one from Uchisar Castle, however, is unlike any other.
It's true that in the region there are other sites high in altitude and "pierced" by men over time, so as to make them a fortress in which nature and the work of man have contributed (I am thinking for example of the not far away Selime Castle) and that there are unitary underground environments that are larger in terms of overall volume (and here I am thinking of the underground cities of Kaymakli, Derinkuyu and others); but no one more than Uchisar, soaring and at the same time completely pierced by the work of man, recalls the idea of the Tower of Babel under construction, as we have done since Peter Brueghel the Elder stimulated our imagination with his pictorial masterpiece of 1563.
More prosaically, Uchisar Castle has been called “one of the largest and multi-storey natural skyscrapers in the world”.
Arriving in Uchisar in the late afternoon of an August day, we were able to ascend the castle with a relatively mild temperature, and also take advantage of the magic that a lower, grazing light gives to the landscape. From above, both the "fairy chimneys" immediately below the castle, as well as those that extend further away, and the other bizarre forms of erosion that dot this extraordinary region, appeared to us suffused with this magical light.
Overall, the visit to the castle remains among the most lasting memories of Cappadocia for me.

The castle called is a unique piece of nature. Unfortunately, the people who have to make this castle accessible have not thought through the stairs and ironworks made from water tubes of chauffage 😂to achieve your goal. 60 lira entrance , Turkish people free . To go up you have to be really good on your feet and in good condition , also be careful not to hit your head and the entrance and exit go over the same path , Weird that one does not make this possible otherwise . Still beautiful. Definitely do

It was a rainy day when I visited the castle. When I arrived, I found out the Cappadocia Museum Card did not cover admission. The price has gone up since last month. It is now 120 lira. The inside of the castle was not at all noteworthy. What made this worthwhile were the views from the top! Even in the rain, the views were amazing! It was also interesting to see the formations in the castle itself. I don’t think this was ever underground, but it did look similar to what I saw at Goreme.

The beautiful Uchisar Castle is a sight for sore eyes. So our advice is: "take a walk in the town and enjoy it from the outside".
Because with a ticket costing almost 8 euros per person you won't have any access. An external staircase will take you to the top of the building from which you can at most take a souvenir photo. That is, the memory of the money you just threw away. Have a good trip!

It is called a castle but in fact it is a limestone formation rock on which man, in ancient times, has carved environments by digging in the limestone that is relatively soft material. Seen from the outside it could suggest an Emmental cheese (or Swiss cheese) for the numerous holes. It is currently uninhabited and the rooms dug into the rock are empty. The limestone emergencies of the village, once inhabited by local inhabitants, have been transformed into residences for tourists and small hotels or restaurants while the owners have built modern dwellings for themselves. Of the castle (as commonly understood) for the truth has nothing. It is certainly a peculiarity since it is probably the largest rock in the area, on which man has intervened adapting it to the needs of housing and sheltering food and animals. From the summit, reached through a long staircase, you can see a panorama of all the surrounding valleys with an almost 360-degree view.

Ouch, how annoying, when the person traveling with you refuses to make a visit that was agreed upon together... It wasn't that difficult to climb to the top of Uchisar castle: the steps and railings are well arranged and the the ascent is almost gentle. On the other hand, you visit an interesting place and, once you reach the top, you enjoy a very captivating view of the entire Pigeon Valley. 120 lire (4 euros) for the ticket is not an exorbitant price for a tourist.

As with many sights in Turkey, they have ramped up the entry fees for foreign tourists - increases are fine but the degree really leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.
In this case, 250 TRL per person which in the grand scheme of things is not that much but their approach turns people off.
The castle itself is nice and interesting - a good umber of decent photo opportunities both inside and outside the castle.
Is it worth the entry fee? Maybe. Should you visit? Would recommend.
Perhaps only thing to make one feel better, it is still much cheaper than other sights in Istanbul!

I visited it on April 2023.
I took the public bus from Goreme station for less than 1€ a person.
The entrance of the Uchisar castle is 5 minutes walk far from the bus stop.
The ticket costs 4€ a person.
Inside the rock building there are little art exhibitions and you can read historical informations about Uchisar.
The best thing is the valley view from the top of the Castle.
I suggest to visit it and other sites in Cappadocia by yourself ( by taxi or public bus).

Beautiful castle, mostly outside. It's worth it.
We enter the castle, we climb to the top, from where there is a beautiful view.
Lack of information and internal plaques explaining the rooms or the history of the venue.
It is possible to get by regular bus from Goreme there, quite easy and cheap.

Visit to the village of Uchisar, surmounted by its castle, which with its enormous tuff peak perforated by a thousand cavities, is one of the most beautiful places we have seen. Stunning panoramic views of the facades of houses adorned with sculptures. Beautiful.

Hola, sabés si es posible ver el Monte Erciyes desde la cima del castillo? Porque quisiera tomar una fotografía del mismo, sin tener que ir hasta Kayseri. Muchas gracias!

Uchisar and the castle. you may need a couple of hours, however it is a great place to have as a base to explore the whole region. We stayed at Ansia Hotel at the base of the castle, highly recommended and owner speaks English and has also worked as a tour guide so is a wealth of useful information. By the way you can walk through pigeon valley from Uchisar to Goreme, a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
