To be honest, when we first entered the place, I was expecting a very ancient kind of setting. But the room was very simple and basic. Was a bit disappointed. Besides that, nothing to complain about.
The performance was very good. They seemed so involved in their art. It was very good to experience their passion.
Though I’d think there must be a better place to experience this.

The dance of the whirling Dervishes is a called Sema.

The history of this custom begins with Rumi, a 13th-century Persian poet and theologian.

It is part of Turkish custom, history, beliefs and culture which represents a man’s spiritual journey.

Our guide explained the seven main parts to the ceremony or alternatively if you are not on a tour, there is a brochure available to read which clarifies the practice of this tradition.

It is definitely a unique experience.

I went in with no expectations and really enjoyed the experience. Initially upon entering the place, I saw bus loads of tourists and felt that I was in for a commercial experience. However the brochure handed gives a clear explanation to the origin of the whirling dervis practise, the significance of each segment. Most of all, once the dervish began, I was taken in and touched on a spiritual level by their practise. It is a eye opening experience to be appreciated by anyone who has a spiritual inclination.

The whirling dervish experience was very special. It is such a pity that so many Western visitors go there wanting to be entertained, to see a performance.
Taking the time beforehand to find out something about Rumi and the origins, meaning and symbolism in the dance is very helpful.
This was an unforgettable, deeply spiritual time.

Some reviewers have complained that this was not a fun show…..and they are right…this is not a show! This is a devotional religious ceremony that we are allowed to view. It was deeply spiritual and very meaningful with the help of the pamphlet that outlined the whole Sema ceremony. I was in awe of the grace and dignity of the Semazen and was glad people weren’t allowed to take pictures during the actual ceremony as it would have broken the solemn mood.
This is something I had been wanting to see for many years and it did not disappoint!

We asked for the invoice and they wanted to apply an extra 20%
They said they didn't have ATMs and they just wanted cash...

They actually wanted cash to not pay tax

But we saw it under the sheets of which we attach photos

Fortunately, it's a spiritual association.

The Dervish evening was part of the catering program on our Cappadocia tour. At first we thought "this could be a boring show" until our tour guide explained that it is not a show but a devotion. The location in the cave is special and in the end I have to say that we liked the devotion as well.

Sorry had to give this one star!
We found this optional excursion a rip off . £42 each . And it did not float my boat at all . ( all 50 minutes of it!) despite following the information on the leaflet given on entry which explained the ceremony step by step.
With due respect it is a religious ceremony but unless you are of that religion and culture I think you will find it is of very little interest .

I am respectful of local tradition and belief but when you market it as such a life changing event, be sure to keep up to the promises, this was boring to say the least. there was nothing of significance expect a great deal of money made for the proprietor

This was very disappointing. It may be a sacred religious ritual/prayer, but both my husband and I fell asleep. We could not wait to leave. The person singing was off key. The Flutist could not play the flute. It was awful. Maybe there are more entertaining versions of this holy ritual, but I would say just leave it behind closed doors and do not charge tourists to see this!
