One of the top attractions in the region, this outdoor museum contains the remains of many churches carved into the famous Cappadocia stone. Of note are the many excellent frescoes that can be seen when exploring the various structures.

Very good, make sure you have a sun block and a cap over your head, good for kids since its very interesting and ignites imagination.

It was simply incredible how well preserved the Goreme Museum is. I had a great time here. The tourist shops were amazing too from where we bought some fantastic souvenirs for our friends back home.

Don't forget to visit the Tokalı Kilise (50m before Museum, the same ticket): blue frescoes are wonderful.

This natural open air museum is just out of Goreme and in close proximity to a couple of chimney fairy valleys. There are about seven hundred year old Christian cave paintings in these huge natural rock formations. Quite an unusual museum and it's worth visiting.

Amazing place. The extra fee for the black church is totally worth it. It's a must if you are in Capadoccia.

This is definitely worth taking the time to see the caves and formations. While it is more of the same...amazing formations, etc., it has a lot of history and is worth the effort.

This is an open air museum with a Christian theme but also of interest to those who like history. Set in a reasonably large area, it is a series of caves gouged out of the local rock and was a Christian settlement and town from...More

Interesting to view. But do expect a lot of walking and dark caves. I do highly recommend that you pay the extra 10 Lira to enter the Dark Church. It's quite a climb up but the near intact frescos with the brilliant colours are worth...More

The cave called the nunnery is not open, but the other 14 rock churches are open. No photo's are allowed inside the churches some of which have impressive paintings on the walls. The dark church costs an extra 10TL to view. This has the most...More

It's amazing! The only thing that annoyed me was that the black church that's in the open air museum wasn't included in the ticket and that we had to pay extra to see if.

Goreme is perfect if you like adventures. You can visit the sights on foot. You will walk a lot if you want. The terrain is quite rustic and radical. Some steep climbs to access strategic locations. But all access is... More

Could someone please clarify the location of the open air museum? The map on tripadvisor shows that it is about 1km east of Goreme. But when I did a search on google map, it is showed as being in the centre of the town.

No, not in the centre of town but a pleasant walk of about 10 minutes. Wonderful place to walk around and worth paying a little extra to see the Dark Church. A very beautiful place and do not miss it
