First, the accommodations for our group of 6 that ended up being just two of us is a sign of how service oriented Magical Steps owner, Ata, is. He offered just the two of us to continue at the group price and in spite of our lack of internet to communicate, he was at the port for us!!
Ata was able to get guide Ugur to rush to us and give us the tour.
We had a great tour! Ugur guided us through the ruins, explaining and pointing out amazing details of construction. The Terraced houses included in the tour were really fabulous. So much detail was explained by our guide, Ugur.
We can recommend Magical Steps as a fabulous company.

We had an amazing shore excursion from Kusadasi port to Ephesus led by Taner Kara on October 12. Taner was a wealth of knowledge and took us to the Ephesus ancient site, Terrace Houses (amazing), and several Christian heritage sites. Taner was proactive, explaining both current Turkish traditions as well as Turkish history. He was the best tour guide we have ever had. I would highly recommend Magical Steps Travel.

We could not have asked for anything more. Ugur was a fantastic guide who took us to all the sites of Ephesus/Kusadasi. The site of the Virgin Mary’s house all the while a Mass was happening for all, and so much more. Ugur was so pleasant, very knowledgeable and always willing to and answer our questions. He went above and beyond! We ended our tour with lunch in the countryside that was absolutely perfect! Thank you Ugur😊

We had an awesome tour of Ephesus and other sights including the Terrace Houses. Our guide Ugar was extremely knowledgeable and considerate of our needs. The company was very quick to respond to emailed questions. They meet us at the ship and returned us in plenty of time.
Thank You Magical Steps!

I wish I could go halfway between average and very good - I'm so torn about this tour company. The booking process was amazingly simple and the Reservations Manager Gonca was so super helpful and responsive - I booked a group of 12 - all pretty much strangers since we'd only "met" before on Cruise Critic. We were all on a 12 night Med cruise together on Royal Caribbean in October 2013. We had a driver and a guide whose name was Ilker - who was with us the whole day explaining everything - he was wonderful and invaluable at the Ephesus Ruins. The ruins were amazing - not to be missed. Included in the All-in-One Tour was a trip to what was described in the tour listing as "lovely and authentic Turkish-Orthodox village". It was Sirrince Village and no one in our group thought it was lovely. We tasted wine there that was not great and the village was just really poverty stricken. Really it was a wasted stop - no one in our group loved it at all. Then the rest of the afternoon was taken up with lunch (which WAS really delicious - Ilker ate with us and guided us through all the foods) and unfortunately a carpet demonstration that was pushy and overzealous - not to mention when my husband and I wanted to escape they sent us through a maze of different jewelry display rooms - I swear I thought we were never going to get out and finally a really creepy leather show. When I asked if we could stay on the bus during the leather "runway" show we were told no! AND another couple (a very well traveled mother/daughter duo) said they just wanted to skip it and hop in a cab back to the pier and they were told NO. I had read that these types of demos often get pushed on you but with absolutely no mention of it in the tour description and nothing communicated about it in email I thought we were safe by booking a private tour. Guess not! My advice is to state up front very early and often during booking and again when you meet your guide that you DO NOT want any of these demonstrations (unless of course you DO want them!).
One other thing I will mention - definately do pay the additional $10 (USD accepted on this tour) for the Terrace Houses at the Ephesus Ruins!

My wife and I looked forward with anticipation to this tour for several months. It was all we wanted and more. We both have mobility problems which make it difficult to walk large distances. However, our guide took his time and let us travel through at our own pace. He provided insight into the daily lives of the people who lived in Ephesus and made them come alive for us. We heartily endorse this tour, Magic Steps and Atilla Demir, our guide.

Zeynep is a superb guide. She is charming, knowledgeable and fun. Although we had never been to Ephesus (or Turkey), we came with many years background in history and philosophy. While an expert guide for those without such a background, Zeynep was also able to fit with our background and interests. She added immeasurably to our understanding and especially our experience of Ephesus. A wonderful day. PS. If you want to buy an authentic Turkish carpet during your trip, don't buy in Istanbul: let Zeynep take you to a very special place where the prices and quality are superb.

We were on a cruise and made the decision to hire a local private guide for this what we thought very import site to visit. I made reservation with Magical Steps. It turns out this is a great decision.

We met our guide Atilla and the minivan driver at the port. Not for long Atilla completely convinced us he would be a highly qualified guide. We chatter during the drive to the site, we realized he graduated from the university with a degree in Tourism and Hotel Management. His in-depth knowledge of the period history and site archaeology showed right away. More importantly or interestingly, his humor was so great and made our trip much more memorable. He would guide you to a specific spot, which seems to be less visited, and then tell you this is a perfect spot for photos! I guess he played with all kinds of cameras and took some amazing pictures for two of us.

If you understand any tourist industry eco-system, you would appreciate the fact that you would be inevitably "invited" to some local shops. Atilla asked our permissions before we visited a local carpet shop. He helped us to negotiated the price, but at the end we decided not to purchase due to the fact the price was beyond our pre-set budget. Even with this result, Atilla didn't show any upsets and guided us through our tour including a wonderful turkey lunch. It was indeed a beautiful wool carpet and we were now some regretful ....

At the end of tour we became friends. He is married with a 19 months boy and his wife Aysun was his college sweetheart and also a tour guide.

If you compare prices from different local private guides, you can find Magical Steps' price includes all admissions to all site visited, which actually add up a quite bit.

Anyhow, we highly recommend their services. If possible, ask for Atilla or Aysun and you will not be disappointed!

Not wanting to pay the prices charged by our cruise ship, coupled with wanting a smaller group with more flexibility our group of 7 booked a tour with Magical Steps. I would do this again. Our guide Kamel (I apologise for the no doubt incorrect spelling of his name) was patient and informative. We started at Ephesus and he did his best to navigate his way through the crowds and show us as much as possible in the limited time we had. We were then taken to a really lovely, simple Turkish lunch which we all enjoyed. The final part of our tour was to visit Sirence a small previously Greek town perched high up in the hills. This is, as much of Europe has become unfortunately very touristy, but I urge you to walk away from all that into the back streets to get an idea of what rural Turkey is about. It was much more interesting than the market part we were dropped off in. We of course also did the obligatory carpet factory visit, I had tried to get out of that but was told it was all part of it and could not be deleted. It was fascinating but I urge you if you are not interested in buying a carpet leave after the demonstration of silk and weaving, don't get trapped in the showrooms downstairs. I would use the company again.

We recently did a 10-port cruise in the northern Mediterranean and tried to do private tours when possible. One was in Kusadasi, Turkey, and included a fabulous walking tour of Ephesus. We also got to visit the Temple of Artemis (one of the Seven Wonders of the World), the house of the Virgin Mary, and the quaint little village of Sirince. The price for a private tour for the two of us was far less than the cost of a group bus tour through the cruise line, and included an 8-hour tour in a roomy van with our own driver and a guide. Our guide (Ugur) was one of the most knowledgeable guides we have ever had, which was particularly helpful in a place like Ephesus. Lunch was also included. From our first inquiries the company was very responsive to our questions. I would highly recommend Magical Steps for a private tour in the Kusadasi region of Turkey.
