My companion and I wanted to try a traditional Turkish bath at some point in our two weeks and Turkey. I was excited to see that this is one of the oldest working hamams in the country. It's not a 5-star spa experience with a long deep tissue massage, but we didn't go in expecting that. It was an unique, relaxing experience for only 35 lira. I would have liked to get additional services (hot oil massage, face mask), but we didn't have enough cash (credit cards aren't accepted, but they also take euros and dollars). Here's the play by play:

First, you go into a private side dressing room to change and lock up valuables. You can wear your swim suit, you don't get naked. I actually took took off my top and just used the coverup cloth so I could get my whole back scrubbed (I have a lot of straps that would have gotten in the way). But the choice is yours.

Next you are led into the steam room for about 15-20 minutes, and you get all nice and sweaty. This is part of the process, not just waiting for waiting's sake.

Then you are taken into the neighboring room where you sit on a little marble seat and the attendent scrubs your scalp and washes down your hair.

Finally you are taken into a central marble room with a large marble platform table and separate individual seating areas all around with faucets and pans to rinse. There were several stages to this part. In each stage you lay on your stomach to get your back side done and then you flip over for the front. In between each stage you go back to your individual station to rinse yourself off. There was a scrubdown with a rough sponge for exfoliation. Then there was this foam wash---it was unlike I ever felt. It made me think of the foam at a drive through car wash! There was also a quick massage at this point before the final wash down.

In our case there was one male masseur and the two of us. I imagine when there are cuise ships in port there might be more people. One thing that I really appreciated is that the masseur had my male companion do each stage first so I could see what I was getting myself in to. The masseur was very professional the entire time. I never felt uncomfortable.

Finally you get dry towels wrapped around your torso, your shoulders, and your head and are served tea in the dry room and you can also relax in your dressing room. The whole process took about an hour.

Overall, I was really glad we did it! I was refreshed and my skin was felt soft!

Arrived in the morning to ask how much a traditional bath would cost, we were quoted a very reasonable price of 10 TL and couldn't believe it as everywhere else we had gone we were being quoted tourist prices of €15 p.p. and as students it just didn't fit our tight budget! I was so surprised with this price I repeated it at least six times to ensure we weren't misunderstanding, this went on to the point that the guy at the desk basically said "why is this so shocking to you? It's the standard price for a bath." (which a little research will tell you is actually correct, entrance to a bath should cost no more than 10 TL!!!).

We arrived back at 6 pm and were greeted by the owner who didn't say a word but grabbed our arms and literally pulled us up the stairs and threw us into a small room to change (it is worth mentioning that we again verified the price with the owner who spoke no English but nodded his head when we held up ten fingers and said "10 lira"), halfway through us changing he opened the door and grabbed me by the arm and pulls me out of the room in my underwear, luckily my girlfriend manged to close the door and I stood in front of him and wouldn't let him back in until she came out.

Eventually we were brought down to the bath and the guy we had made the booking with greeted us and all was fine as he directed us to lay down to steam. When he returned my girlfriend went first for the scrub this is where things changed, he spent about five minutes rubbing the inside of her leg and staring at her chest, when he wanted her to turn over instead of slapping the thigh and is commonly done he full on slapped her behind and then brought her over to rinse off (all of this I missed as I was still steaming). Next my turn, needless to say he didn't spend any time on my inner leg, though he did scrub up my body and when he reached my face popped up nose to nose and shouted "hello" in what can only be described as the most immature and unprofessional conduct I'e ever experienced.

Next was the soap, while soaping my girlfriend I noticed that he lifted her leg onto his shoulder which seemed strange to me but as I had never had a bath before i didn't know any better. It became apparent why this was done when it was my turn for soap as he didn't lift my leg I realized he had do so in order to try and see inside her swimsuit by spreading her legs, (It is worth mentioning too that my girlfriend later told me while i was being soaped he kept looking back at her and winking). By this stage I was now furious and wanted to leave, so decided to ask to be washed off, while doing this he twice took a scoop of water and splashed me in the face and said "ha ha ha splash in your face".

Following this he waited until we put towels around ourselves, and there is no doubt in my mind this was a deliberate ploy while we were semi clothed and away from the exit, he said the cost would be 90 TL (which would not be unreasonable if the service had been half decent and the price honestly given at the time of asking). At this point we were fed up and told him he could forget it and that there was no way we were paying 90 TL for that. Suddenly he couldn't speak English anymore and said that we were getting a 10 TL discount and his "English not so good" and that's why WE were mistaken, to which we responded that we had clarified in the morning that the price was 10 TL and that was all we were paying. Suddenly he could speak English again and became hugely aggressive shouting that it was 90 TL. We said we weren't paying and he would have to call the police which he responded to by banging his hand on the wall and saying "fine I'll get the police" (in perfect English). We went upstairs got changed, with no light because for some magic reason none of the switches would work (I would imagine they flicked the fuse switch). When we came down again he started telling us again it was 90 TL and I responded that all of my research said that a bath should not cost more than 10 TL and I wasn't discussing it anymore I wanted the police, with this he went over and started to pretend to type a number into the phone while I watched him, all of a sudden he slammed the phone down and said "fine 10 lira", which I would imagine was due to the fact he knew he was in the wrong and I wasn't flinching at the prospect of dealing with the police.

To sum up my review I would recommend that if you enjoy unprofessional and immature services, watching your girlfriend being sexually assaulted and being ripped off at the end of the experience than by all means use this place, if on the other hand this not what your looking for steer well clear!!!

We are very sorry for this bad experience you have had in the past. As of May 1, 2021, the operator of this business has changed. We combined our business with LAVANDA LUXURY SPA & BEAUTY company. We started working again with our male and female staff by paying attention to ethical rules. We have Turkish bath practices and world-class massages in Ottoman culture. We provide maximum quality service with our staff of African, Balinese and Turkish nationality. We have a free transfer service from your hotel. We would like to welcome you again with our renewed face. Also; We renovated the entire building. We now have a real steam room. You will have different experiences with eucalyptus and menthol scents while you are in it.

I would HIGHLY recommend avoiding this Turkish bath at ALL costs. Go to Ephesus like you are supposed to. We just got back from a cruise (October 2012) that stopped in Kusadasi and decided to try out the KALEICI HAMAMI, the one a few blocks outside the port that most people go to... and my wife was almost raped there.

No I'm not joking, yes she was sexually assaulted and we were able to get out of there before things escalated (like me burning the entire place down). For those that aren't clear on sexual assault, he took off her swimsuit top, held her down, fondled her breasts and kissed her neck, followed by rubbing his arm up and down her crotch. I was in another room at the time thus how this was able to happen. We read about questionable experiences at different Hamami's (slipping hands) but this one was supposedly the safest and most legit. It was not, it was an awful experience that my wife will likely remember for the rest of her life (and not fondly). Be. Careful. Please

I was in Kusadasi with my family in August2009.We decided to go for the Turkish bath.We contacted some Galeleo Tour planner who charged 12 Euros per person.Being a muslim woman ,I opted for one exclusively for females. My husband also went with me to the same one but different portion.we were picked up and taken to a big building.I was escorted by a young but huge girl to a secluded area. After undressing,I was told to lay down on a marble slab in a big hot room, where steam made my body perspire for about 10 minutes. The girl then guided me to pour cold water on my body. After a long wait she returned, asking me for drinks in between intervals,a way to earn some extra money from me.Then I was again on the marble, she scrubbed me for about 2-3 minutes, then poured soap solution, rubbing along. Finally she washed me with cold water, wrapped in towels, and that was it.This time I was offered turkish tea which was free.the whole procedure took about an hour out of which, more than half was spent in waiting. It was a mere waste of money.

I'll start by saying we were two females in our early 20's and by no means prude or particularly conservative. The place was a lovely building and you could really appreciate that it was traditional Turkish hammam, we are very open-minded and was open to a new experience, so didn't feel the need to specify that we would have liked a female masseuse - as we assumed the place would be professional.

A little awkwardly we were given a young, male in his late twenties, early thirties maybe. He groped both myself and my friend, separately, after we were taken into a curtained booth. Very inappropriate and left us both feeling very uncomfortable. We were open to a new experience and like I say aren't particularly conservative girls but this was beyond a joke. Would not recommend to young female travellers, maybe it would have been a different story if I had gone in with a partner or boyfriend.

We also read the brilliant reviews beforehand so can only assume he was taking advantage of the fact we were by ourselves and only in our early 20's. It may be a different experience for elder people or those travelling with male company.

this was something i was so looking forward to but i was so dissapointed..in my opinion a woman should wash a woman and a man should wash a man, not what we got,we should of al least been asked if we wanted a woman or a manto give us our turkish bath. it was not relaxing whatsoever, we were put into a hot hot hot room and made wait for more then half an hour, i taught i was going to faint at one point as did my neice, and for what i taught would be some turkish women to enter and scrub us down, but what entered but 3 turkish men..it is something i would NEVER do it, and to make it funny we paid 20 euro each for this..i could not wait to get out of there!

Dear Karen, wondering to which hamam you went ?? At this page people write about several hamam's. Our hamam is the historical hamam more than 450 years old. Pricewise, waiting more than half an hour in the hotroom and 3 Turkish men entering seems to me you didn't visit our hamam. At our hamam you can choose to go the the female or mixed section. Female section the rub will be done by a female and men are not allowed. At the mixed section the rub will be done by a male.

Cruising the Mediterranean on board the Splendour of the Seas....we got into port and embarked on our guided walking tour of Kusadasi, visited Pigeon Island, Byzantine Castle and Ibramaki Art Gallery. Delight in some local Turkish dishes for lunch. Carpet presentation and enjoy local handicraft.
At the end of the tour what perfect way to unwind with a bath experience that included steaming, authentic scrubbing and foaming soap cleansing. The experience was amazing and rejuvenating.
Be sure to visit.

My experience is nearly the same as the previous review. They came to pick me up and told me it would be 30 Euros for 2 hours but after it was finished they said it was 60 Euros. As I was in an area I did not know I was at their mercy. I had to pay to get back.
We were on a cruise so told the desk about what had happened and maybe they could let the Kusadasi tourist office know. They said they had hear stories similar to this.
I think it would be wise of anyone visiting Kusadasi not to go to any Hamams and exercise a high degree of caution in this town.
