This is one of off beaten path with easy reach from Antalya / Manavgat / Side by car. There are ruins here and there with most impressive Agora.
The city itself is very easy to navigate as there is "city map" close to "city gate" and its location is mentioned in the "map". We didn't go far and explore every corner of Lybre however we visited its hammam, several ruins, necropolis, some cisterns.
Recommended to go early in the morning with its amazing sun shined. We went in January when it was a bit cold but with sun shined and only 3 people around including us.

Up in the Taurus mountains lies this city from 300bc. Magnificent place. Really remote and you can sense the history. In the middle of the pine forest it's really peaceful and there are no vendors or fake merchandise here. Only a few other people were here when we visited. You could also trek up the hill to get good views i was told, but we were with kids and it was quite hot so we didn't.
Take a picnic basket and enjoy the peace. There were some locals here on a picnic.
It's quite easy to find. First find the village of Bucakseyhler and from there just follow the signs to Lybre. Interesting road but in better condition what i expected. You don't need a 4x4. You can also get here with some travel agencies excursions, but i recommend going on your own. It's more peaceful.
There are signs posted on the site telling about the place. Could use a few trashcans, tourists leaving their trash around the place.

It's so close to Antalya and Manavgat.After a short visit to beautiful waterfall of Manavgat,you can pass to Bucakseyhler village on the north of Manavgat by car or dolmush.The ancient city of Lyrbe (its original name is Lyrbe,but also known as Seleukeia.)lies on a hill.The hill is not so high,You can also go on a trekking .The city dates back to 3 BC,founded by Selevkos.The agora immediately attracts you with its 2 storeys.The columns are in well-condition.It's the most beautiful city after Termessos in Antalya,I think :) .

If you have done all the major sights and looking for something a bit different, you will discover the ruins of the ancient city of Seleukia on top of a mountain scattered in the forest. You can just wander around the ruins of the library, basilica and agora at your leisure. There is no entrance fee - a hidden gem.

Most people go to the Turkish Riviera for the beaches, but Lybre is a hidden gem. These ancient ruins go back to 300 BC and it’s amazing to see how much actually remains. It’s mystical and magical. If you’re a history fan, I t’s most definitely worth the visit. You’ll be deeply, lastingly impressed.

I had heard about this place and was intrigued. Not on the usual tourist trail but only around a 30 minute drive from Side. I had a private taxi arranged for me buy the hotel and went to the site early in the morning, a morning visit is recommended, as even though the site is in a pine forest, it still gets very warm later in the day. There are no facilities at all, so make sure you take plenty of water.
As you get near the main site, you get tantalising glimpses of ruins through the trees, it's only then you realise how large the site is.
You arrive at a small parking area in front of what remains of the main gate to the city. Here you will find a notice explaining a short history of the site along with an explanation, as to why it should be known as Lybre and not Seleukia, which most know it as. When I got there, I was the only person around and as I wandered through the various remnants of this ancient city, I found it quite eerie.
Like many sites in Turkey (it has so many), there is so much still to be uncovered (The last excavations took place back in the 70's). You wonder what is below, when you find the tops of arches protruding from the pine needle covered ground.
I spent around 3 hours there and found that just right.

An unbelievable place! Absolutely fantastic. We went on a rainy day in March. There was no one there amd we were intoxicated by the smell of the pine trees. A wondrous place; well worth the effort. Climb up to the hill and have a look from there!

A magnificent ancient city with some amazing ruins here and there. A must visit for people who are interested in history and archeological sites.

An easy and well signposted distance from popular Side, Seleuceia/Lerbe/Lyrbe is a much underrated archaeological site. Despite the casual descriptions in the guidebooks, even the late, much lamented Blue Guide, Lerbe has one of the very best preserved agoras in all of Turkey. On the side with the bouleterion all the buildings rise two storeys to the roof line. The small library is virtually intact and enough remains of the colonnade to make it easy to imagine it as it was. An enigmatic arcade under one side of the agora is a highly unusual feature, clearly not the cistern one sometimes finds. Set among pines it is atmospheric and rather idyllic.
Apart from an occasional quiet Japanese tour party and Turkish couples Lerbe is unvisited.
