- Julia1972Moscow, Russia1,789 contributionsAlanya Kalesi is definitely the most popular and visited attraction. It offers the most stunning views of the city. Everyone tells us to come here at sunset, which we did. In order not to waste time, for 345 lire from the nose (back and forth) we climb by teleferic. It is better to leave a little early if you plan to return the same way, as the teleferic stops working at 6 p.m. (at least in winter). And the fortress itself is already closing at 18h and at the same time a full sunset happens. In fact, the main core of the fortress is done very quickly, literally in half an hour. Honestly, I don't know what to do there for much longer, the places are picturesque, but everything is fenced off, you follow strictly fixed paths, you don't really walk around. So, yes, the fortress is more good on the outside than on the inside. A ticket to the fortress costs 12 euros, but where and to whom to pay "two guilders" we still did not understand - the box office was closed. But in reality, it is only a piece of fortress, since the entire mountain of the peninsula is virtually enclosed by a fortress wall. The fortress above is the heart of the mountain. The Turks call it Iç Kale, an inner fortress. In addition to the inner fortress, the military installations of the peninsula include the Bastion (Ehmedek) above, the Red Tower (Kızıl Kule) at the foot of the mountain, the Sudoveryard (Tersane). The main hiking trails usually run to the top, to Iç Kale. But really I recommend just walking all over the mountain, through mountainous areas, narrow streets, houses hanging like bunches of swallows' nests. It's very picturesque. I had walked along and across the whole area the day before, and in the evening we had already climbed by funicular to see the heart of the fortress in the sunset light.Visited January 2025Traveled with friendsWritten March 9, 2025
- TravelAgentHamar, Norway98 contributionsCould get 4 star but choose to give 3 for the simple reason that when you get to the top and you miss small portion for and see over the whole alanya you pay 12 euros per person. It is a negligible sum, but when the salary of Turks is about 800-1000 euros per month, this makes up 75 paying guests. And there are no costs or any operations as this is a several hundred years old castle. If you walk the road go carefully because they drive completely irresponsibly. If you walk the trails wearing good shoes, the trails are not for untrained people. Some restaurants and kiosks along the way. They are a little more expensive than a normal Norwegian gas station.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 4, 2024
- Luddy K4 contributionsThe huge, somewhat confusing and fairly well-preserved castle complex is definitely worth a visit. The view of the sea alone is fantastic. Large parts of it are free to visit, but the citadel costs a whopping €12 to enter (for locals it's only €1.80). The detailed and illustrated information boards are all in Turkish, however! As a foreigner, you first have to download the museum's own app on your mobile phone and scan the QR code on the ticket to access the information (unfortunately, they then said that the app wasn't working at the moment - annoying, because I was very interested in the history of the castle). You can walk around between all the walls and battlements and have spectacular views everywhere, even without the citadel. The mosques are also free to visit, and of course you can buy all sorts of things. The ascent on foot off the main path is easy to manage with sturdy (!) shoes (take water with you, and hiking poles are a good idea), and you can also take the bus up (you don't actually need the much more expensive cable car). Those interested in history should perhaps read up on it beforehand, as information on site is really only available via smartphone. Unfortunately, nothing of the former interior can be seen anymore, only the picturesque walls remain. All that remains is an atmospheric day trip.Visited April 2024Traveled soloWritten April 17, 2024
- Марина БGomel, Belarus7 contributionsThe Fortress can be reached in 3 ways: 1. On a funicular for 1,200 lire per one. The cashier is located at the very beginning of the street where Cleopatra Beach is located. 2. On bus #4. I don't remember the cost, like, $1. Stops not only at the stop, you can just wave and he will pick up)). You can ride it right at the foot of the mountain. 3. On foot... The fortress is on a mountain 250 meters above sea level... However, it is the height of the mountain, not the length of the road 🤣. But! We chose this option! And they didn't regret... It's incredible, around every bend a new beauty, the higher you climb, the chicer the city view... We climbed for a long time because we took pictures and made videos at every bush and house 😆. The fortress itself is just as impressive, the scale is breathtaking. There are tours, a museum, but we didn't take any of that. Just walking around admiring. So the verdict is this: I recommend visiting!Visited October 2024Traveled with friendsWritten November 1, 2024
- Josh TLondon, United Kingdom325 contributionsCame here in mid-October 2024. Quite a few steps and slopes to access the castle walls so be aware of this if you have mobility issues. Visited the old bazaar, the mosque, walked along the castle walls and got as far as the castle entrance but didn’t pay the 12 euros to go inside as had already paid the teleferik (cable car) fee. Helpful signage along the way. Recommend bringing some water and refreshments with you. Very busy with loads of tourists, many unfortunately lack self-awareness at times. Spent just over 1.5 hours here.Visited October 2024Traveled with friendsWritten October 23, 2024
- Olga NKrasnoyarsk, Russia22 contributionsWe visited the fortress with children aged 8 and 14 twice. The first time by cable car (the cost of 3 tickets with a one-way discount for a child is 3000 rubles), the second time by bus from the stop at Cleopatra Beach (300 rubles for 3 tickets). Both times we got back on foot through the Red Tower. The beauty is extraordinary, reminiscent of Greece. A must visit in Alanya.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 16, 2024
- Avux99Cheshire, United Kingdom1,976 contributionsDidn’t go into the castle itself as it didn’t look outstanding enough to me having been in lots of castles over the years. I considered the main draw of this place being the hill views. Got the bus number 4 up the hill to the castle from the dolmus station in town, they run every 30 mins, then walked down the hill via the Bedesten, the Suleymaniye Mosque, the Mounted Life Kemal Culture House, Ehmedek Kalesi & down to the Red Tower /KizilKule (there is an entry fee, I paid 150TL for a combo ticket to the tower & the shipyard) it’s a short walk from the tower along the beach walkways to the old shipyard. Walked back to the dolmus station via Cat’s Park (Kedi Evi Park).Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten October 3, 2024
- Francine MDammartin-en-Goele, France7 contributionsBeautiful views of the city. We did not visit the fortress which is quite expensive (12€) considering the reviews of other users but everything around on the hill is interesting and especially the completely renovated cistern and mosque. If you want to avoid paying for the cable car (within €10 per person incl. VAT) you can take bus #4 near the cave or to Little Otogar near the Point of Sale which shows you in front of the fortress (€1.70 incl. VAT).Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 26, 2024
- Александр2 contributionsThe fortress itself is a very interesting place. Been there more than once. But now they have raised prices very much. And for the cable car too (they neatly now have two ticket offices. The central one is like VIP and 40% more expensive than regular ones) there is no point in paying for VIPVisited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 10, 2024

The museum is divided into two sections, the valid inner city and castle. It’s home to cafes and restaurants. The experience with the view was the treasure of the excursion.
There were also restaurants and shops and a mosque.
What lowered the rating was that you are cheated on the price.
It feels like they have different prices for different people.
On their Turkish website it says it costs 79 TL but we had to pay 480 TL.
Completely unreasonable price difference.

Lou, the boss, went alone, they took him through agents on the street. We were given very little time; we hardly saw the castle. We took a ride around Alanya, took the funicular up for $7 per person, the queue for it was very long! We went into a cave with stalactites 30 lire. The cave is so-so. The fortress itself is gorgeous, but you need at least 2 hours to fully enjoy this beauty. The agency cost us a trip of $25 per person. The tour was from 16:30 to 20:30.

The fort is something you can see from any part of Alanya. It's very magical at night. You have three options. One is to get to the fortress by cable car, which my husband and I chose, per person costs 33tl return ticket, I wholeheartedly recommend it. When you climb the cable car, the whole of Cleopatra's beach is in the palm of your hand, the view is enchanting and you quickly climb up. When you get out of the gondola you came to that "first" part of the fortress which is not paid and which is not decorated, but to me it was very nice and there are a lot of parts for photography with a beautiful view.
Another option is to go to the other entrance, from the direction of the port and to come by bus dolmus (which because of Kovid 19 went only 2x a day) or taxi (be sure to bargain and do not give up, the taxi driver first asked us 50tl which is a little more than 6e to finally land at 25tl which is about 3e). So you come in front of the main gate where the entrance fee is 30tl per person, because that part is decorated and has lookouts from which the view is unforgettable. The main gate can be reached from the other side of the fortress and vice versa, in that part that is not paid you can enter near the main gate. The third way is on foot and I do not recommend it at all, especially do not try if it is not early in the morning or late in the evening because during the day the heat is unbearable and the sun is too strong. We did not know about the changed line of dolmus, so on the advice of some friends we decided to go down on foot and repented. It took us 1 hour to get down and the sun was strong and that was exactly what exhausted us, especially considering that it was a strong slope and I was in slippery sandals. Those who have more adventurous spirit than us, freely, along the way there are restaurants with fine terraces overlooking where you can dine and cool off. Inside the fortress there are a couple of restaurants and stalls where you can buy water or drinks, ice cream.

Beautiful ancient place with a lot of old buildings, mosque, places for rest under the trees or exhibitions, all situated on the hill upon Alanya. There´s an absolutely fantastic view of the city below the castle. The entrance fee is low and you can spend there some hours. You can also attend a market during your descent back to the city. We used (cheap) taxi to get to the castle as there was a long queue at the cableway and I have to recommend it to everybody who doesn´t want to take a long walk from the top station of cableway to the entrance of the castle :))

The place is beautiful. There are not a lot of tourists even in high season. There isn't much of a crowd. The views are very beautiful. The funicular to this castle in August 2023 costs 240 liras round trip.

The old town is beautiful but very commercial! The port is excellent! We had an excellent meal at the restaurant on the far left, next to the road that goes up... I can't remember the name of it. If you eat someone else's, ask for prices on what you take...

The Alanya Castle dominates the entire area, standing high on a huge cape (better say peninsula) dividing the city into two parts.
It dates back to 13 c when it was built by the conquering Seljuks on the existing Roman and Byzantine fortification remnants. During the Ottomans the Castle declined in military importance and throughout the 19c many private villas and homes were built on the site which are still there.
The top fortification is a museum with remaining buildings of Romans, Byzantines and Turks. To visit it there's an entrance fee, but there's also a free part by the Mosque and cable car. The Castle offers magnificent views of the city beneath.
We went there by our rented car (big parking lot in front, symbolic fee), but you can also reach it via cable car. Count on around 2 hours for a proper visit.

As all tourists evidently visit the hill with ancient ruins it is full of souvenir stalls. Walking a bit further I found a nice workshop where the owner, formerly a lawyer makes traditional pumpkin lamps. They are manufactured delicately from real dried vegetables, the drilled holes are filled with beads which shine in pattern with the light inside. He had also made a stand for the lightbulb, often they are used hanging from the ceiling.

Cable cars were great. Excellent views.
We were taken to the top of Castle by taxi, which was a waste of time and money. We bought tickets to enter the castle, which was disappointing..taking a round trip via cable cars and not entering the castle ruins would have been ideal..

You go up by cable car. During the ride you already have a beautiful view of the sea and the city. Once you have arrived at the top, you can take a nice walk and view the castle/ruin, but also take a look at the sea in various places. It's just a shame that there is only 1 information board about the castle/ruin. Upstairs there is a restaurant where you can enjoy a delicious meal and a toilet facility.

Hi all, is it possible to visit the place with a kid trolley? Alternatively - to drop the trolley somewhere, walk with kid in hands, pick the trolley later?
Thanks

Written April 25, 2018
Don't think they do pick up but if you go to the coast road which is just down the road from your hotel you can get any bus there, ask for kleopatra beach and the cable car up to the castle is just down the road from the bus stop, only 3 lira each way or get a taxi which won't cost much.

Written January 8, 2018
