About
One of the most breathtakingly beautiful places on earth, the Thousand Islands Region is an international tourism destination located along the eastern shores of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. It is home to many quaint villages and sits just along the border between the United States and Canada. This region was named after the 1,793 islands that are nestled within this scenic international waterway. With recent advances in cold hardy grape production, the Thousand Islands is quickly becoming one of New York State’s fastest growing wine regions. The Thousand Islands Winery was the first winery in the region and boasts not only multiple acres of vineyards, but also breathtaking scenery, a fun and unique tasting room atmosphere, and of course award winning wines!

We were given coupons for a free tasting so decided on our last day in the area to stop by before we headed home. To be fair, we felt that hospitality was lacking in the Clayton/Alex Bay area and hoped this visit would be different. It wasn't
Our fist mistake was putting the free tasting coupon down. Once the servers saw that, we were ignored. I watched for a solid 20 minutes as others left and new people joined how they served them a tasting before they served us. This was especially true for people they knew.
It almost became a challenge to see how long it was take to serve us. Finally, someone who was cleaning up the bottles and well area looked up and saw us sitting there with a tasting menu and coupon and asked if someone was helping us.
She poured the wines and left. I notice a big tip jar on the counter. Here's a tip: be nice to visitors.
First time seeing a wine slushy machine with refillable plastic cups and straws at a winery. I think it's a local hangout of: get a wine slushy, take cheese out of the fridge (like a deli) pay at the counter like a gas station deli then go sit outside and drink.

The place is quite nice to enjoy a glass of wine 🍷 - very picturesque. The trouble is that most of the wine is not very drinkable. I suppose I could quibble about the order of the tastings, giving us dry reds first then sweet whites after. Or I could complain about how they didn’t give us any info on the wines re their nose or taste - they just poured us a shot and walked away. And on a bad day I might ramble on about the strange playlist that ranged from Billy Idol to the Eagles, with a sprinkling of country, rock and disco all blaring from a bullhorn speaker in the parking lot. But the bottom line is that the wine just isn’t that good.

Great afternoon! Walked into Happy hour. Had a bunch of tastings and a nice cheese and meat board. Some people came in who were snow mobiling and we had a great time joking and laughing. Purchased a lot of local products.

Our family had so much fun at this winery! I have been on many winery tours but this one was unique as they have a ‘winemakers tour’. You get to meet and learn from the winemaker who is a chemist. He lets you taste several wines right from the wooden barrels. In addition, you go to the tasting room after that and you can taste 4 more wines and you get a full glass as well. It’s a lot of wine, so make sure to bring a designated driver. I had to pass on that last glass as I already had my fill. Our tour guide was fun and knowledgeable and the staff was very friendly. Don’t miss this unique experience!

Had a great time at TI Winery. We were there with a bus group and had a tour of the fermenting and bottling process, very informative. They had a nice variety of wines for sampling, dry to sweet. Great customer service and a military discount. Would visit there again if ever in the area.

What a wonderful place to visit! We stopped on a recent journey to The Thousand Islands Region and were treated like family. These folks who run the place are friendly, happy and offer an amazing amount of hospitality. Oh and the wine was good too!!! Ask for Brandy, the Assistant Manager - she’s a lot of fun. And speaking of brandy - they also have spirits and beer tastings. Loved my experience at the 1000 Islands Winery and will definitely go back when I’m in the area!

Great happy hour - lots of fun tasting and then enjoying wine specials. Seems to be a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. Good sections of both dry and sweet wines, as well as several beers. Good atmosphere

What a wonderful experience here ~ such a large wine-tasting area, too!
Debra was the wine expert who did the tastings ~ she was a lot of fun, very helpful and informative. They have quite the variety of wines ~ and cold weather grapes that are not grown in the Finger Lakes wine region.
I would have liked to purchase more ~ it was a hard decision; will certainly stop here when we visit the area again.
Keep smiling, Debra!! Actually everyone working the day we visited was friendly and welcoming. You can tell they like what they're doing! 🍷

So much to do in such a gorgeous place! A-Bay is fun with great souvenir shopping, restaurants that overlook the water and boat watching. Don't miss Casino Island and take tour boat too! The Village of Clayton has upscale shopping and terrific restaurants as well. I love it so much I just purchased a mobile home in Shady Bay, Fishers Landing! Don't forget your fishing pole!

Nice country winery with a large selection of wines. Interested and wonderful staff. The new outdoor porch is a great addition for having a glass of wine in the fresh air. Nice, clean establishment. Good wines. Will return.

No fee to walk around the area that I'm aware of; best to contact the winery directly.
There is a fee for wine tasting ~ well worth it!!

We are looking to take a trip to sackets harbor in July and will have our 12 yr old son with us. Are kids allowed in there while we do wine tasting?

Do you stock & sell sweet red and moscato wines? If so, are these wines produced at your 1000 Islands Winery or do you also stock & sell other brands of wine?
Written February 21, 2018
Thousand Islands Winery produces 22 wines ranging from dry to sweet. The Winery is best know for its North Country Red which is a sweet red wine. We also produce a semi-sweet slightly spritzed Moscato. All the wines for sale at the Winery are produced onsite. We do not sell other wine brands but, the Winery does taste and sell liquors and beer from regional New York State craft beverage producers. Please feel free to call the Winery with any questions. 315.482.9306
