Small but important shrine to the locals
Dec 2019 • Friends
A small shrine dedicated to Krom Luang Chumphon which was visited by King Rama 9 in the late 60s.

Its an important shrine for the locals here.

Nice and peaceful when you are here and good view of the river.

Don't Go Out of Your Way
Feb 2018 • Friends
Somdet Kromluang Chumphon Shrine is not a place to go out of your way to visit. But it was a Sunday and we had nothing else to do, so took a drive from Rayong to the Klaeng District to explore some sites we had not been to before.

The Prince of Chumporn, or to give him his full title, Admiral Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse, Prince of Chumporn (1880-1923) is honoured throughout Thailand as the "Father of the Thai Navy", and this shrine in the eastern-most part of Rayong Province is only one of scores if not hundreds of monuments, shrines and statues scattered around Thailand in his honour.

He was one of the numerous sons (the 36th?) of King Rama V, and studied naval warfare in England and on his return to Siam helped reform and modernise the Royal Siamese Navy.

Today, being a Sunday, many Thais were on their own outings and at the shrine to pay homage to a prince still highly revered throughout Thailand, lighting incense and prostrating themselves before his statue.

temple buildings and adjoining school

At first sight it seems pretty new. Maybe it is.
You can drive into the temple grounds.
Have a walk around.
There's a lot of palm reading and fortune telling going on.
