Promthep Cape or “Laem Promthep” is a small peninsula that is located just west of Rawai. It's one of the island’s most photographed locations. This picturesque cape and lookout point is mostly known for its stunning see views and its great sunset viewpoint over the ocean.
Every evening large Tours take tourists to the Cape to watch the sunset at its peak. On the top of the hill, there's a parking lot where you can park your car or motorbike. There are some shops and kiosk for buying eatables and souvenirs. Before the sunset time the cape is really crowded but after the sunset, it becomes empty in a short time.
I went there two times. First time was for the sunrise and the second time was for the sunset. In the morning it’s beautiful and very quiet but in the evening it's stunning and very busy and noisy. Going there by motorbike could be very exciting & adventurous, but beware! A steep road is ahead, I don't recommend it, if it's rainy or dark or for beginners.
There's a fenced yard with a camera for watching. After watching surroundings, go to the small island via narrow way which is filled with green grass and trees and get to the island. It’s a very nice point for taking photos and you feel yourself in the middle of an ocean. When in Phuket, going to Laem Promthep is highly recommended!

This is probably best view pint in Phuket with a full view of the sea. seems the sea everywhere around you. Some tip for visiting:
1. If you drive the car by your own, have to be there not later than 4.30 pm, others vise will be very difficult find place for parking. Parking area not much big and at 5pm totally full.
2. If you would like to go down to the rock untill end, set the time to be back becore dark. The way down (untill end point) takes around 30 minuts (plus stop for take a pict). The sunset time is very fast to be dark, and the narrow is very path with a lot of high grass and rock. Not much save for night time. But for day time is save. But it is worth going down, when you are sitting in the rock of the end poin, felling look like you are in the end of the wolrd. Strong recomend!!!

Phuket, Thailand's symbol at the southern end of the island. The viewpoint that is rumored to be the most beautiful to wait for the last light of the day to reflect the the glittering water on the Andaman Sea to the top of the country's sunset viewpoint. And is the location of the Phomthep Cape Lighthouse. Visitors cam go up to admire the beautiful from 360 degrees.

Very honestly, it’s a brilliant sunset point and that’s about it .. if you are into sunsets you will absolutely love it and give this place a 4/5 but if you are looking for something more than it is a 3/5 kinda place.
We rented a Tuk Tuk from Patong and it costed us around 200 Thai Bhat(it’s better if you rent a vehical for the entire day and explore points like these)
We went in the evening just before sunset. The vibe is brilliant, local musicians playing music, dancers dancing and lots of other activities. There a small stalls outside selling local street food but I don’t trust the quality. Just outside the main entrance there are small cafes, I had the banana crep from there and it was amazing and costed me 20 Thai bhat.
The sunset beautiful and makes for great instagram pictures.
There is an elephant shrine there and

Really can't see the point in this place unless you are in the north and desperate to see a sunset! Bus loads of people are brought in and jostle each other for the best vantage point. The sun sets out to sea so there isn't even anything scenery wise to contrast with the sunset. We were staying in Nai Harn and walked to Promthep, we didn't wait for the sunset as we had better perspectives from our hotel balcony.

As far as lookouts go, I’ve seen a lot better. The street food on the way up is tasty; we packed it along for sunset viewing. And while the sunset was beautiful, the actual view itself wasn’t what I would call spectacular.

This is probably one of the best places on Phuket Island for sunset photos. Lots of tourists and locals show up for the sunset .Luckily there were few tourist buses when I went. Well worth the visit ,if you want good sunset photos.

I came here expecting just a viewpoint but this is a destination in itself with a big car park, lots of shops and stalls.
I couldn’t believe the crowds lining the promontory along every wall and some climbing over onto the hillside. Everyone was jostling for space - this was on an average Tuesday night. Sunset was still very good though but it may be hard to get an unobstructed view.

this is one amazing place to see beautiful sunset in phuket. the view is really amazing. it is crowded even during pandemic time so I can imagine how crowded it will be at pre-covid time. I think probably there's no room to stand at the cliff. watching sunset here is one of the best thing to do in Phuket. u can see people going down to the cape but I think the best view is actually up on the cliff. absolutely amazing sunset view.

Peaceful forested peninsula Promthep Cape is home to a dramatic viewpoint where visitors watch the sunset over the Andaman Sea. Colorful fishing boats bob off the east coast, while west coast beach Yanui is popular for swimming and snorkeling. Promthep Cape Lighthouse has a small maritime museum and a brightly decorated shrine of elephant statues. Casual Thai eateries, bars, and souvenir shops dot the cape.

Can you get to where you need to be to watch the sun rise by motor bike or does it encounter a hike too? If so how long does this take please?

I will be visiting Phuket for the first time next year and I am looking for things to do. I will be staying in Patong. If I wanted to see this, would I just ask our driver to take me to Promthep Cape? Do you know whether this will be far from Patong? I am busy looking at things to do for a day when I am out and about in Patong.
Thanks in advanceHi, lizettedewaal. What would you like to know about this attraction?
Written September 30, 2019
It’s about 12-13 kilometers. Easy ride. The road was also recently upgraded.

Which ways is the best to travel Promthep Cape from phuket old town? If I take a taxi, how much will cost?
Is there local bus in phuket old town to reach there?
Written May 16, 2019
We rented scooters so I can’t answer how much would it cost if you took a taxi. We found renting scooters the best transport method to go around the island but , of course , you need to be very careful. Good luck!

Hi may I ask what if I go to the view points from patong by motorbike?
Written May 3, 2019
Yes, you can. It may take awhile to get there but surely can. We did it the first time I went there. 🙂

Is is a good option to visit this point in October ? as it would be raining, and the clouds might not be so clear for a good sunset view.
Written April 23, 2017
October is the beginning of the NorthEast Monsoon. Rains will be heavier and if there are storms, they tend to be more protracted (may last several days at a stretch). With the current climate change, winds in this region are increasingly stronger.
Framing it possitively, you may be able to capture images of "Wuthering Heights" rather than of dramatic sunsets.

Buongiorno a tutti, volevo sapere nel periodo di dicembre/gennaio a che ora c'è il tramonto e quanto prima presentarsi a Phrompthep Cape per non fare la fila o trovare ingorghi sulla strada nell'orario del tramonto appunto;
grazie!

what is the best way to travel to Phrompthep Cape from Patong beach? I know this about 25 mins drive from there. Is it worth it to take a taxi (around how much will that cost?), Im only a beginner in driving scooter, is it safe and reommended for me to drive the scooter all the way up hill? Thanks a lot.

I went to phuket last november and booked a day driver from ppkk tour. Good services they provide and they can bring you to any places you want. It's about 200 baht (~8aud) per hr but they have minimum hrs. Their van is good for 10 pax.
