- Tubby15Manchester, United Kingdom272 contributionsNot a sunbathing beachIt is a working beach with lots of boat tours on offer to neibouring islands. Good restaurant and drinks facilities too. There are lots of cats and dogs around the area so the beach wouldn't be the cleanestVisited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 8, 2023
- Elena V2 contributionsQuiet location to arrange boat trips and eat sea foodNot a swimming beach, more of a harbour. You can arrange for a boat to take you to some of the nearby islands, negotiate the price/times with the boat captains. There are lots of cafes/bars/restaurants along the sea front for a drink or a spot of lunch/dinner, and watch the sunset. There is also a fish market and some of the restaurants will prepare the fish/sea food for you right there and there, so a good place to go if you are a sea food lover! It is a bit precarious to get down to the beach from the road, as there are no steps so watch your step.Visited December 2023Traveled soloWritten December 31, 2023

We visited Rawai Beach in Phuket for a seafood experience. It was very exciting to buy fresh seafood and have them prepared right away. The people are very friendly and excited to meet tourists now that things are opening up slowly in Phuket. Do negotiate the prices and try their different preparations. Very enjoyable experience overall!

More locals go here then tourist, There are many boat tours and companies for island hopping. Many restaurants serve Thai food and seafood, a very good price and amazing taste. This beach is before you reach the cape, have a stop here and take lunch.

As a resort Rawai is great, it has great bars and restaurants without the sleaze and noise of Patong. The beach itself isn't really for swimming but is picture postcard beautiful. Walk along at dusk to browse the stalls and enjoy the night view

Amazing at sunset. Traditional boats beautiful at sunset. Walk down around seafood markets. You can buy seafood and take to restaurants across road where they will cook it. We walked to Nikita to right off pier (away from seafood market). Great food and lovely atmosphere beside the water.

Not a beach where you would really look to go swimming or sunbathing on - it's more of a mooring area for the boats in front of a short sandbar.
There are lots of restos and bars along the beachfront.
For me, the highlight was the long Rawai pier, which was interesting to walk on in the evening. There were lots of people fishing when I went!

Our only regret was leaving too soon from Rawai. Amazing place to visit, can't recommend it enough. We stayed at Rawai Palm Beach Resort and everything, from pool to the food and the help was amazing.

Beautiful white sand beach.
Had a great time swimming and taking pics. Be careful there are lots of dangerous rocks in the water, tread carefully. Excellent for snorkeling. No umbrella rentals.
Beautiful beach with a local restaurant in the corner. The smoothies are great I got a strawberry one.
Have fun.

Our driver informed that Rawai is where the locals come for leisure and fishing and where tourists come to hire longtail boats for excursions to the any of the many islands. He identified some locals as being from the nearby Sea Gypsy Village, we declined the suggestion that we should visit the fish market there. Interestingly, there were none of the tourist trappings that are very evident on other beaches, Rawai is really a locals' work area, but also an area where there are many hotels of various star rating, restaurants, cafes, food stands and bars. Worth visiting to see a small part of how the locals live.

I've booked 3 nights at a big villa for 20 guests. I thought Thailand is affordable and getting food should be easy. I just got quotes for 40-50USD per meal per person... Are they trying to rip me off? In Canada I usually buy at Costco and would have 10 meals for 20 people for about $1500... Any advice on how to stay at similar cost or lower?

Hi,
I have lived in Thailand for almost 1 year. Well, if you ask the people to get your food they would charge as a 5 star Hotel. I do recommend you find the closest supermarket and buy your own food or ask some locals to provide it for you but definitely not the same person that you have rented your villa.Enjoy your days!

Hai, I would like to stay in Rawai.. Just curious whether Rawai or Phi Phi island which will be the best choice?
Written October 8, 2019
It depends on what you are looking for. Rawai is in Southern Phuket, it offers access to other places including Phi Phi and depending on the time of year could be considerably less crowded and less expensive.
Phi Phi is like being in a postcard, it’s absolutely stunning. It’s also quite small. I always found it was good to visit for a few days but not for a longer trip. The longest I stayed there was 7 days and by day 6 I was a bit tired of the crowds and lack of new experiences.
You can very easily stay in Rawai and catch a ferry to Phi Phi and spend a couple days there.
Another option many people overlook is Ao Nang. It’s on the mainland in Krabi Province which has the same giant rock formations and also offers ferry trips to Phi Phi.
Do some research on what these places offer and consider how long of a trip you are taking to Thailand. If you are travelling for a month I would start at Ao Nang then head to Phi Phi and finish in Rawai. That’s just my personal preference though. Each place has its own unique atmosphere and attractions, so depending on how much time you will be in Thailand and what you want to do while there would determine what’s best for you. If you do stay at Phi Phi, I recommend the Bayview Bungalos, for Rawai, Cascades Resort is fantastic and quiet. Enjoy your visit!

Hello,
Just wondering if I'd be able to charter a long tail boat for a one way trip to Ko Yao Noi, as we have booked accommodation on the island after a week in rawai.
Thanks

Hi sorry just saw your question. There are lots along Rawai beach .
you wouldn't have problem getting one at all. They ask 1300 baht but you can get it cheaper
