It is hard to find a good bar with a great band and great atmosphere in Patong. Monsoon had it all. Drinks is not expensive. Staffs are very friendly. Most of all, THE BAND IS FANTASTIC. So, This is my favorite bar in Patong.

As a long term resident of Patong (and a musician) you could say I have heard enough poor versions of Hotel California and Zombie to grant me a universal veto right over those songs. True they are great songs but not once they have been put through the bored Filipino band mangle and churned out without any passion at all.
There has been a location right in the middle of Soi Bangla that has been the best location for a live music venue since I arrived here 17 years. Its varied owners during that time have squandered the location with one bad idea after another. However now, the location has been recently refurbished and renamed Monsoon and it's properly happening and really rather different in a very good way.
It's very trendy looking and the male vocalist in the band has a sort of attempted hipster chic look that doesn't quite work but it doesn't matter as he an excellent front man for this outfit.
The main female singer on the hand is just sensational, confident, engaging and she really knows her stuff. I didn't see one lyrics book on stage and this is the biggest sign of a good band, it means they care enough to not be rehearsing in front of a paying crowd.
The set list is eclectic from the latest pop tunes to some of the better standards, but here's what I totally love about this place, the band consists of singers, half a drum kit and one excellent acoustic guitarist. This means that whatever song they are covering, they have to own it, make it theirs and make it presentable acoustically and this is just brilliant. Try keeping the momentum going on any R n B or Hip Hop tune without the bass and synth parts, it's not easy but these guys can and they do it very well indeed.
Downside, the sound system SUCKS not a bit but y'know REALLY SUCKS. They have clearly not spent any money on the gear so the sound is harsh and tinny and unbalanced and just everything you expect when you spend so little money on domestically purchased speakers and do not have a competent sound man at least set the system up for you. I'd point the owners in the direction of the Titanium Pub in Bangkok to see how to do sound right in a venue of this size.
Other than that one negative, it's all good, go there at least once on your visit to Phuket, they're doing it right (except the sound).
I must also mention the service staff who were well drilled, charming and they have possibly the Campest Gay Man in the World serving the tables and it's a joy to behold.

We had a great night at Monsoon Bar while visiting Phuket. The atmosphere was great and the band was awesome. I would highly recommend visiting this bar if you enjoy live music in a fun but relaxed environment.

This is a decent bar on the famous Bangla road. There was a really good live band playing which helped sway us in. Make sure you stick to beers as the other drinks are an absolute rip off, the staff were literally begging for tips too which was a bit off putting, but the band were fantastic

Friday the 20th of November we were a group of friends having drinks in and around Bangla road. We had a good night with plenty of drinks and good mood. During the night some of our guys stopped for a drink at Monsoon where one of them had a small argument with one of the bouncers. Suddenly without any warning 6-7 bouncers came flying out and started beating 4 of our guys.. one of the guys went down and was kicked in the face several times!!
At the same time the female owner of the place was just watching doing nothing about it. When she was asked to stop this she was just laughing!!
At the same time we have to give some credit both to the local police but also the turist police who acted professionally and ended giving 2 of the bouncers a fine the following day.
This is not the first time that these guys have done something similar and it will not be the last if we dont stop this.
Pls do not support Monsoon bar in any way and I hope this message its also spread so that this will not happen to others!

I went there with my boyfriend and two other married couples from Singapore we met in Thailand on the 21st May 2013. We were lured in by a friendly Canadian at the door with a good band and a "free shot" with a beer (or other drink).
The 6 tequila shots were brought out pre-poured on a platter and we drank them with our beer and sat back listening to a really enjoyable band playing.
The next 24 hours were hell!!! All 6 of us were violently ill!! We didn't all drink a lot that night, most only having a couple of beers with that one tequila shot. One couple left straight after this bar because they felt sick. The rest of us went and played pool at the Aussie bar, nothing outrageous. Then to have ALL 6 of us vomiting profusely for the next 24 hours was disgusting. I have no doubt that it was from this "tequila" shot which I suspect was home made and diluted with some poisonous chemical as to vomit right down to right bile is not normal. We did not have dinner together that night so I know the only common denominator with all of us being chronically ill was that tequila.
Nice bar with a good atmosphere & band but if you value your health, just buy a beer that you see them open and refuse the "free shot"

As mentioned elsewhere, Monsoon hands out drink coupons to people as they walk past the club. I was handed a 49 baht coupon and eventually wandered in about 30 minutes later. Sat down, ordered a Singha beer, thankfully (as it turned out) mentioned my coupon, and was told that the coupon only covered Chang beer. I handed the server my 49 baht coupon and she returned with a Chang and my bill. A 69 baht coupon was attached to the bill. When I asked what happened to my 49 baht coupon, I was told that they had raised the price. When I asked to speak with the manager, I was rather forcefully "invited" to leave.
Notwithstanding the protestations of the manager throughout the reviews, the coupons neither mention a limitation on the type of "Drink" or a deadline for use. I have uploaded pictures of the coupon, front and back, and it is crystal clear. (I could only upload a picture of the 69 baht coupon, because the server took my 49 baht coupon.)
Bottom line -- why bring Monsoon your business if they are not willing to honor their own coupons? Frankly, I'm not sure why they bother with coupons -- they could just have a sign in front of the club indicating the special pricing, and change it whenever they like. Given that they decided to use coupons for marketing purposes, they should honor them. Until that time, there are many other choices and I suggest you go elsewhere.

Hi MoreTrips001,
You must have missed the two giant screen mentioning the "Chang Beer Beat The Clock" cause yes the price change during the night, it's a Beat The Clock. We start at 49 bahts, then 69 bahts, followed by 99 bahts until we reach our regular price of 119 bahts. You must also have missed the writing on the promotor t-shirt about the "Chang Beer Beat The Clock" as well as the A3 size signs they attract customers with mentioning the "Chang Beer Beat The Clock". You must also did not understood the waitress when you did show your coupon before ordering when she told you about the "Chang Beer Beat The Clock". But the saddest part of it all is that inside the most packed and fun Live Music pub on the street you sadly judge your whole experience on a 20 baht note which comes to 60 cents US. I guess you were not just in the mood, maybe next time!

My partner and i visted the bar as part of my birthday celebration. Music was great as they have a live band performances, great atmosphere but worst service experience by far. Drinks are expensive, waitresses are greedy and pushy. We were aggressively told to leave if dont order drinks mutiple times, by both the waiteresses as well as one of the hostesses, even after we had generously tipped them after each order and bought the one waitress a drink.
Not sure if this is the norm at Monsoon or on Bangla Road but an establishment with such a great vibe surely cannot be that desperate to make an extra buck.
Total put off! Definitely wont be back ot recommended. One should not be forced to order drinks in order to stay at a bar.
Level up guys... service standard is way behind the rest of the world!

Our drinks are at 190.- bahts our beers at 99.- and shots at 100.- Where do you come from to find that expensive? Talking about the rest of the world, don't go to touristic venues you will find prices extravagant. For the order a drink part, we are a private owned company not a public park where you can enjoy a show for free. Having drinks on a table is a normal behaviour when you go out in a pub, here and the rest of the world!

Be very careful here the staff will attempt to drink the majority of any drink you buy and then try to charge you extra for the ‘privilege’ which I can assure you is not the same in several bars on the road like New York bar and Club 82 where the staff are amazing and you can really enjoy a good night!

If you want to witness the Worst hospitality, Rude and Abusing waitresses and racist behaviour then visit Monsoon bar at Bangla road. But if you want to have a nice evening with spouse or family just AVOID Monsoon Bar at all cost. They ask you to pay upfront even before you take first sip of your drink and do not accept cards. We ordered a wine, beer and fries and waitress said pay first. When my husband went to exchange money, that horrible waitress started shouting on him asking where is he going and started shouting ATM is in other direction. I tried to calm her down by saying that he's going to the exchange as we exhausted out bhats in shopping, and I'm waiting right here. Remind you, we haven't even touched our drinks yet given to do that, you have to pay first, however absurd it may sound as if people just leave their spouses there and run away after ordering. Anyways, the ordeal didn't end there, she went to the entrance and continued shouting to her colleagues that guy is going to fly, all this while I'm sitting there and can hear her. Though none of her colleagues paid her any attention, probably. My husband came back in less than 2 minutes and we paid the bill and I tried to explain her that we are not thieves and she shouldn't be talking to her customers like that, to which she replied that 'I don't f***** care'. A possible first used by a waitress to a customer. We were aghast by her reply. On the top of that she started abusing us in Thai or whatever, while another of her colleague took over duties from her and came to us asking if we want to order anything else. Few minutes later we saw her fighting with customers at another table when they asked for their 1+1 free drinks. We refused, finished our drink, which were diluted beyond essence, left our fries as it is and left. Though other waitress tried to smile and ask her if we want to order anything else but damage was done by that time and nobody even bothered to come and apologize for her crazy behavior. I have never in my life faced such horrible behavior by any bar/club in any country. They are just trying to lure customers with 1+1 free drink, which they are compensating by diluting drinks. I suggest don't spoil your trip by vising this Horrible place. There are tons of better places at paton beach road. Don't fell for their cheap trickery.

Hello Pratibha, I have answered your other review on facebook. I will repeat the same thing here so the shaming of Monsoon could be put in perspective has Monsoon is a great place and you seem to have the worst experience of your life there, which shock us. First of all we do ask people to pay upfront like many other places around the world by the way. Bangla road is a very active street with a lot of "active" visitors. To take an order and comeback to an empty table was not rare before we put that system in place. For the extreme rude behaviour of the waitress, we have 2 managers on site every night, please for every other bar owner that you will blast on internet, go talk to them and make a physical on site complaint. To do so by writing a bad review doesn't fix anything if it happened. Now for the diluted drinks, we are the only place in south east Asia to use a North American automated pouring system called AzBar, look it up. It is impossible to serve anything else then what you have order in the amount, quantity it is programmed. Barmans and waitresses have nothing to do with it, a robot does. Was the robot also rude to you? Also you would have to explain to me how can we dilute a beer bottle or even a glass of wine. Sadly you felt hurt and you try to hurt us back but we are not that waitress, you should have helped us identifying her instead.
