I really enjoyed diving with Scuba Cat at Phuket (Thailand).
Fantastic dive center with great staff and very good instructors.
Mild water temperatures of between 25°C and 28°C and excellent visibility of up to 100 meters make Phuket a very popular place for Scuba Diving. The multitude of PADI Diving Centres around the island offer courses at every level as well as Guides and equipment hire.
Thanks to Scuba Cat for making my holiday great!

I booked 6 adventure dives and my better half her advanced open water. The first day was great. Superb tour leader (Julie) and a great group of DM's. Dave and bunny.
My wife struggled with the training a little. So at the suggestion of Debbie in the office we changed days to an easier dive site. As it turned out they put the boat to sea with just the 2 of us on board to ensure she completed the course. Presumably losing money but ensuring customer satisfaction.
I can't say enough nice things about the team. Instruction was top notch. Julie gave me loads of tips and tricks to improve my diving. All in all. Money well spent. Our next diving abroad will be the scuba cat live aboard next year.

Hi, Thank you so much for your great review of your time with us here at Scuba Cat Diving. All the staff here are great and it is so nice to here positive reports from our customers about them, thank you. Julie and the Dive Crew run the boat so professionally and Debbie basically controls me and the day to day running of Scuba Cat, amazing woman. Customer satisfaction is very important to us, we always operate with small numbers on our boat MV Scuba Fun, you are right sometimes loosing money at that time but my belief is in the longterm it cannot do us any harm, I certainly would not like to be on overcrowded dive boats that is why we do not operate that way. It will be great to see you both on board MV Scuba Adventure to the Similans where I hope you will be equally pleased with Kath, Dan and the crew. Thank you again, Sarah and the team at Scuba cat Diving x

back in the summer of 2011, i was sitting on a dive boat and decided that i wanted to become a dive instructor, so I started looking for the best dive school i could find, took my rescue diver course in the UK, I searched on line i wrote countless e-mails and visited the dive show in Birmingham (uk).

An important lesson in communication, if you are looking to do your Dive Master or instructors course anywhere in the world there is some basic information you will need and it boils down to this....

What am i going to get for my money?
How much exactly will it cost?

Now you would think those two questions would be simple to answer but sadly if you are looking to do these courses you will find out it is not the case.

After a lot of research I came down to 5 dive centers around the world, you will get e-mails telling you that its going to cost you X amount local currency for the course not including PADI fees they are extra and probably will be in a different currency, accommodation may or may not be included by November of 2011 my head was spinning so i sent 1 e-mail to all 5 centers roughly along these lines....

I want to do my dive master and open water instructors course i have x amount of weeks to do it in excluding my flights and living expenses how much in total will it cost?

Of the 5 i sent the e-mail to only one gave me the answer i required Dear ivan it will cost you x thai baht or approximately £xxxx

Now this is actually more important than you may think, as a Dive Master Trainee or Instructor Trainee, you have to learn physics, anatomy and physiology and a whole heap of other stuff so if a simple question like how much cant be answered simply then what hope have you got when it come to boils law or how gasses are affected by pressure?

SCUBA CATS answered me simply and efficiently

My training was vigorous and intense, my days spent in the class room doing theory, the pool perfecting my demonstration skill or on the boat initially working with instructors or eventually guiding and teaching.

This was one of the most amazing and fulfilling experiences of my life.
I passed my Open Water Scuba Instructor exam in march this year (2012) with one of the highest marks (the exams have entrants from all the major dive centers in phuket) of the exams
Now dont get me wrong this is not me blowing my own trumpet but rather sounding a fanfare for all those that either taught me directly or helped indirectly.

The standards for trainees is set very high, higher than the exams require this means that when you dive with scuba cats you are diving with Instructors or guides that are above average and that put your safety first and thats just those that are new, many of the Instructors have 10's of years experience.

ok thats the hows n whys bit

Dive boats and equipment
Both dive boats are well laid out, and have a lower deck and upper deck they never feel over crowded, they carry all the usual things you would expect to find on a dive boat, oxygen, first aid kit life jackets etc.
You kit up on the dive deck and enter with a giant stride off the back, 99% of the time this is a seamless operation, the captains on both boats are very experienced and captain poo (captian of the live aboard) is also a Dive Master, the boat boys are thai and work hard and are very helpful and always smiling.
All the Scuba gear is well maintained and of a very good standard as you would expect.

The live aboard
Kat is the tour leader for the liveaboard if you have read other reviews you will see her name mentioned lots, she makes the trips fun and safe and is a brilliant instructor and guide.

The dayboat
Tour leaders vary day to day but no matter who you get you can expect them to be both professional and safety conscious while making your trip fun and run smoothly.

Dive sites depend on the day and the weather, the dive site conditions in this area vary tremendously day to day it would be hard to be disappointed by these dive sites there are sites for beginners and those more advanced.

In conclusion if any member of my family wanted to dive in thailand this is where I would send them, knowing that either as a fun diver or on a course they would be safe and have an awesome time.

I came back to the uk in may and will be diving in another country soon

I worked with Scuba Cat for months to arrange for the 3-day liveaboard. Being a solo diver, I had to wait for others to sign up. We were going to Hin Daeng and Hin Muang. I was excited to do another liveaboard. The problems started once I paid in full. Daniel L had been working with me but once I paid in full, no communication. No email telling me what time I was being picked up. I gave them my email, my Thai phone number, my hotel, etc. Nothing. No email was being returned. No phone number on their website worked. I went to their location, locked. It was raining but still, the door was padlocked. The day came as we are to head out on the boat - nothing. Not a word from Daniel L. I was scammed, or so I thought. Fortunately Paul, also from Scuba Cat, contacted me. He apologized and gave me all of my money back, in cash, even though I paid through a card. I didn't get an explanation, only an apology and my money back, for which I was grateful. So buyer beware. I had to find a hotel since I had no where to stay for 3 days. Very disappointed in the whole experience. Many thanks to Paul. Buyer beware with Scuba Cat.

Dec 2016 • Couples
I ordered and payed my trips with Scuba Cat in full back in October, 75960 baht for me and my girlfriend on their SA14 17th - 20th dec and SA 16 24th - 28th dec..

When December came and I went to Patong, I met an uninterested guy called Dan in their scuba shop, sitting with his back towards us customers and could hardly be bothered with taking my name and hotel for the trips which would start in a few days.
I was told pickup for my trip on the 17th Dec would be at 4:30 - 5:00 in the evening.

The day came, and a few hours before pickup I sent a mail to Scuba Cat to check that everything was in order and pickup would go as planned. I first got a vague reply about something being wrong, but me and my girlfriend still packed up our stuff and went to the lobby for pickup as planned.
About the exact time we should have been picked up I got to know the trip had been canceled due to issues with the boat. The owner claimed to have been at my hotel twice without finding us and he had also sent me two mails to my email. The hotel I was staying at has two parts, Lake side(Main building) and Beach side(annex). Being one of the better hotels in Patong and Scuba Cat having operated in Patong for several years one would think that the owner knew there is two parts to Hotel Millennium, but he later claimed that he didn't know. I never recieved any mail from Scuba Cat, and I checked both my mail accounts regularly during the whole vacation, so sending me mail about the boat problem was a straight up lie, as was probably the claim of having been at my hotel twice.

The owner promised me a full refund and a free compensation trip from the 21st till the 24th dec. Me and my girlfriend debated if we could do two trips back to back in a row, as the next trip would then leave as this trip ended according to Scuba Cats online booking schedule. We decided we were not up for one whole week in a row on a boat and I sent them a message saying we wouldn't join for the trip on the 21st, but asked if we could come to some other sort of agreement on compensation, maybe a discount on the trip leaving on the 24th.

Days passed and Scuba Cat stopped replying to my mails. Me and my girlfriend was in their shop three times asking about our refund and if the trip on the 24th would go as planned. In their shop they had a thai emploee who didn't know anything about Liveaboards, couldn't get a hold of anyone and didn't have anything to do with money on our first visit. Second visit we just asked if any of the guys were in shop, Dan or Paul, which they ofcourse wasn't. Third trip we met one of their voulenteer divemasters and a new thai emploee who didn't think there would be a trip on the 24th. But maaaybe on the 25th or 26th. I told the Divemaster I was about to get mad and start shouting at someone soon, getting the answer "I don't get payed to be here so if you start shouting I will just leave"... He did however promise to get back to us within 5 o clock that same evening, the evening of the 23rd of dec. The evening came and went and no one showed up at our hotel with any information, even though I explained to him we were living at Lake Side and our room number.

Being fed up with the service in their shop I continued sending them mails asking what was going on, getting no answers. The 24th came and went, so did the 25th and the 26th. No answer on mail and no one came to see us at the hotel.

I then sent Scuba Cat a claim on pay pal for the refund of my 75690 baht.
And told them on mail that our business would be finished permanently once I receive my refund.

It is now the 5th of January and Scuba Cat have refused the claim on pay pal, and have still not replied to any of my mails since the 20th of dec.

SO, in short they managed to ruin my whole vacation by being unreliable, vague with their answers, and in general not bothering to help or answer any questions regarding the trip which should have left on the 24th. Their vagueness also kept me from booking a Liveaboard with another scuba company, as I didn't know if the one I had already payed for would happen. If they had been clear and honest from the very start and told me that the trip on the 24th was also canceled or would leave a couple days later, I could have done something else or decided it was ok to go with the trip even though it was late. But no communication made that impossible.

Scuba Cat have been reported to PADI as they used to be PADI a short while ago and to SSI which is their new standard.

They have gone from being my favorite Scuba company, the company that I took my PADI license with and kept coming back to for the last 5 or so years. To being a shop with no service, no professionalism towards customers, and as I am seeing no refund, straight out con artists who I will never book another trip with again EVER!

20 days in Thailand, one 3day and one 4 day Liveaboard booked. 75690 baht payed up front. 0 dives made. Alot of annoyance and aggrevation over an unreliable dive company had. And my vacation all together a disaster.
Thank you Scuba Cat!

The Diving was exellent but I could have been with any Phuket dive company and the diving would have been exellent. The staff though seemed to be apathetic and quite inexperienced. The dive boat as well as the transport from the hotel not only need a good clean but also some maintenance and some paint.

It is so sad to see what's happened to Scubacat since the previous owner Sara Kench and Debbie Woods left. They were great and built up a great brand and customer loyalty. I dived with Scubacat since 2003 but won't go back now under new ownership.
Customer service is dreadful, they don't answer any emails and just don't seem to care about meeting your needs or answering your questions.
Don't go there. This is not the Scubacat of old to which the excellent reviews relate.

My friend who is a fellow diver recommended Scubacat to me when I said I might be thinking of doing my AOW while I was visiting family in KL as I have yet to muster up enough courage (or a drysuit!) to dive the Scottish waters!

I looked into it and got it touch with Scubacat and from the word go, I found it very easy to deal with them. All my (hundred) questions were answered ever so patiently by Sarah and that made it very easy for me to make up my mind on which dive school to go to :-). Sarah recommended their Summer school which incorporated a liveaboard and suggested the dives that would be beneficial and appropriate for the area, which was very helpful.

Once I got to Phuket everything just went swimmingly – from the registration, the pick up from the hotel, liveaboard and AOW course itself. All the instructors and boat staff were very friendly and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. We were thoroughly spoilt with delicious food which was freshly cooked and served to us. Hielke, our AOW course instructor, was brilliant. He made sure we had fun doing the course and yet was conscientious in ensuring we grasped the principles of the course.

I would highly recommend Scubacat for those who want to continue your dive education and definitely for those who want to have some fun diving!

Prior to starting my Divemaster course with Scubacat last fall, I had been a recreational diver for 17 years and have been lucky enough to have been diving all over the world.

Having had the experience of diving with Scubacat as a customer in the past, I knew that they were a very professional outfit. This past experience combined with all of the time and energy that the General Manager Sarah put into answering all of my questions helped me make my decision.

I spent almost 6 months with Scubacat working on gaining knowledge and experience to become a competent Divemaster. The instruction that I received during my course was outstanding (Thanks Vince!) and went far and beyond what is required by PADI. I also received amazing coaching and guidance from all of the members of the staff at Scubacat. I was consistently impressed by the level of professionalism and customer first approach taken by the members of the organization.

Finally, I would be remiss in not metioning the opportunity that I was provided to spend time guiding on board the liveaboard boats at Scubacat. Not only was this a chacne to do some world class diving, but it gave me great insight into how a liveaboard dive boat should be run (I had been others in the past). Special thanks to Kath who taught me more about diving then I ever would have dreamt about before signing up for the course.

I would fully endorse diving with Scubacat on a daytrip or liveaboard, and can assure you that you won't be dissapointed if you make the decision to do your Divemaster course with them!
