- irina_drutaLund, Sweden284 contributionsReally beautiful islandIt is such a pity that this island is so remote that it takes about 1h with long tail boat to reach it, but it is definitely worth the money. There is a la good you will most likely visit on the way to the island itself and then the beach that is absolutely like heaven on earth. Cristal clear water of a greenish color that makes you able to take stunning pictures even without professional gear. Snorkeling is definitely a thing here. You can reach the island in many different ways but after trying a few I could say that taking a trip just to the island (and not visiting it as part of a tour of islands) is best as it gives you enough time to enjoy and feel the island. There are a few shops on the island and a lot to admire so it is really a comfortable place worth much more attention. The price at the ticket counter is 500 thb per person for the trip and 300 thb entry fee per person. Be aware that it may not be possible to buy a ticket this way as the boat won't leave till there are 6-8 persons willing to go to the island. We tried our luck a few days (waiting 1h by the ticket booth) till we finally went there joining a big family. When taking a tour of the Hong Island and neighboring Islands it costed us 600 thb for the commute and same 300 thb entry fee. With the tour we visited 4 places one of which was just snorkeling and seeing Nemo)))Visited January 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten January 28, 2020
- Łukasz KKrakow, Poland25 contributionsA cery nice IslandVery beautiful and spectacular island. There is a lagoon worth seeing and swimming in. The Beach on Hong Island is very nice, good for chilling out, swimming, snorkeling. There is a restaurant with some food and drinks I recommend petting there on your own (not organizer trip) by boat taxi!Visited February 2020Written February 15, 2020
- Alicia CLondon, United Kingdom82 contributionsAmazing but don’t pay for an organized tour.So glad I didn’t spend a lot beforehand on an organized tour. I walked down to Ao Nang where the long tail boats were. It cost 3,000 Baht for 5 people to rent a boat to the Hong Islands (make sure you do all four, i.e., Hong, lagoon, etc.). The lagoon is a must. They allowed us six people for 3,500. There’s a 300 charge when you arrive at Hong Island, as it is a national park. We just waited around and found another two couples who wanted to go the same trip, so we all rented the boat. The driver was nice and took us each place, allowing us to tell him how much time we needed for each. Make sure you get down there early to beat the crowds at Hong Islands. We set sail around 9am and returned at 5pm.Visited January 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten January 2, 2020
- jimles7Princeton, Kentucky659 contributionsKing Kong would be happy to live hereWe booked a private longtail boat for a 1/2 day tour of these beatiful islands for about 100$. Went to 4 islands Koh Hong Island, Koh Hong Lagoon, Koh Landing, and one other . The backdrop of the limestone cliffs, the white powdery beach and the crystal clear turquoise waters makes this place heaven on earth. Watch out for the plentiful jellyfish, and the snorkeling is bad here, because very little coral is still here.Visited February 2020Written March 4, 2020

Before landing on the island, we went through a tiny gap in the limestone face of the island to enter an emerald lagoon which was beyond stunning, the water was so green and it was silent there, it really was like paradise. Arriving early at Hong's beach (probably in the first 20 visitors that day) was a revelation and it felt like we almost had a private island - by the time we left a couple of hours later, it was already super busy. Be aware that the walk from the landing stage to the beach itself is super wobbly...but better than swimming, not least as you will see there are 1000s of beautiful tropical fish in the water, but also 100s of jellyfish too so be careful! The sandy beach is super soft and we had the pleasure of seeing some huge lizards/dragons as well as lots of tiny sand crabs. It's a nice place to snorkel and swim. There are also toilets and refreshment stands close by. There are nature trails to follow. The best part, however, is the 360 degrees viewpoint...which is NOT for the faint hearted! My wife made it to the first lower platform and let me do the rest! It is over 400 metal steps to the top and each step varies in depth. There are also some wobbly wooden flat parts where you sometimes need to avoid trees and bushes! It takes around 25 minutes to get to the top if you take it at a steady pace with some pauses. I did it in flip-flops which added to the entertainment, if you have trainers, they are to be recommended, as you could go up and down much quicker. There was a 5 minute super shower just before I ascended the steps which also made it more slippy! However, the blue sky views of the many islands in the Andaman Sea as well as stunning Hong Island itself made it all worthwhile. Overall, this island is spectacular and a true piece of paradise, but just get there early before the crowds!Visited May 2022Written June 10, 2022

I went thier by shared boat but I would like to recommend to book private traditional longtail boat because we can design our trip with no limited time (i saw the price is afforadable)Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 4, 2023
- stephen EWinchester, United Kingdom7 contributionsBeautiful place Hong islandSo this is a fab place, but I can’t empathise enough get there early. We were there at 9, boats already queuing up to off load passengers. But it was ok, by 12 very busy. The facilities on the island were great, toilets, restaurant, smoothie bar all good with cheap prices ( smoothie 80bt ). My partner is walking with crutches and the people were very helpful so she had a good experience, but the climb to the top was too much for her so she just climbed to the first stage. The climb to the top is worth it, 400 steps for the amazing 360 view. Spent and hour or 2 swimming in the clear waters or under the shade of the trees watching the instergramers posing away! The boatman was very kind, water supplied and cut fruit on the way back to the hotel.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 17, 2023

- fraserwilKinross, United Kingdom115 contributionsGreat tripBooked Hong island trip by speedboat. Picked up from hotel at time agreed. Had about a 45 min transfer in mini van from hotel to pier. Went to 1st beautiful island for approx 40mins as not much to see or do so that amount of time was ample. Then onto 2nd island where we snorkelled and ate lunch (which was surprising good). Very enjoyable. Then lastly onto Hong island where we had 2hrs20 mins here so plenty of time to enjoy the stunning clear water for swimming and snorkelling. There are lots of different types of beautiful tropical fish to see. There is also a nature trail here we’re you can see some lovely butterflies and birds. The guide on our boat was very good and spoke excellent English. Returned to our hotel late afternoon. Definitely worth the effort to visit these islands (we had to miss out one island due to low tides and boat couldn’t get in.....didn’t bother anyone on the boat though).Visited January 2020Written January 20, 2020

I think this island along with Phi Phi Don are the best islands in Thailand. The backdrop of the limestone cliffs, the white powdery beach and the crystal clear turquoise waters makes this place heaven on earth. Recommend to do this with speedboat rather than long-tailed boats. I did this as part of the Hong Island tours which included visiting Pakbia and Ladang Islands - the latter is stunning in itself

It was a wonderful day! Went with the speedboat from Ao Nang to Hong for a daytrip. Nice snorkling and very relaxed day. Our guide was very very nice and easy going. I travelled alone and the guide made pictures from me on the best spots of the sightseeing.

Is Hong Islands worth to visit only if interested in doing snorkelling or kayaking?
I have no plans to do these , only sit and relax on the beach.
Please tell me if it's worth to take the tours ?

It's a great cruise out there... good views and I would certainly go for a relaxing beach day to fill in a day away from Patong ( if that's where you are based)

To be honest it was organised by our apartment hosts so I am not sure of the name of the operators. It cost us 1000 Baht each for a half day trip, which wasn't the cheapest but they assured us it was good value given they didnt cut corners.
Can you snorkel at the beach itself or do you need to take a boat out?

Its not the best reef you can snorkel, but certainly you can do it. There are better places in Thailand.
