They can enjoy themselves in their own natural environment here until their last breath. At ElephantsWorld we work for the elephants, instead of them for us! - Dr. Issa Abu-DayyehAmman, Jordan4,613 contributionsLet me start by saying, it’s not my first time to do an elephant interaction in nature, so I am able to compare and contrast. The booking process is efficient, you fill A google survey through their website, and they contact you with an email and price quotation, and you can confirm your reservation that way. There are different packages to choose from including half and full days, with and without transportation from your hotel if you are in Kanchanaburi. We paid 1800 baht per person including transportation, a small buffet lunch upon arrival (no chance to opt out, so avoid having breakfast before going), and entrance. Once you arrive, you are assigned A guide, but you are pooled with other groups as you perform the activities, so it doesn’t feel personalized at all. That being said, you get to do All the basic stuff such as feeding elephants watermelon from a platform (feed him to his trunk not in his mouth (My hand got chewed by an elephant and it really swelled and hurt for 2 days). You also get to cut some grass for them in a field using primitive tools, feed them rice balls, and then play in the mud with them, and shower them in the river. Overall, fun but not personal! The lunch buffet is not that good, and they force you to have it upon arrival (1 hour. Lost)Visited January 2025Traveled with familyWritten January 11, 2025
- Pascal27EureVilleneuve-sur-Lot, France497 contributionsI totally disagree with those who say that animal welfare is not respected. First of all, I did not see any ill-treatment of these animals (on the contrary) or any trace of ill-treatment. They are domesticated elephants and not wild. I don't think it would be torture to make them swim and water the few tourists present, especially when you know the pleasure that an elephant has to go for a dip... The urban sensitivities of eco-friendly bobos should be reasoned with the realities of animal life. Our cows or horses in France are often treated worse than these elephants there ... we still have to get out of his city. I enjoyed cooking the rations of the 83 years old grd mother elephant who has no tooth and who without the help of her cornac or tourists passing by, would have died of non-feeding. I had fun cutting sugar canes (real candy for elephants) to feed some young elephants ... anyway, I spent a great day in this center.Visited February 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten February 26, 2025
- Annette Z14 contributionsWe deliberately decided to stay at Elephantsworld for 3 nights / 4 days (write an email) to get a deeper insight into life with/with the elephants. And it was wonderful! Not only did we have a spacious cabin with fantastic river views to ourselves. Our assigned tour guide "Chang" was always on hand, spoke good English and made everything possible for us. In addition to the program of preparing elephant food, feeding and bathing, there was a trip to the water buffalo as well as a wonderful kayak trip on the river, also a table tennis game was there. We were able to engage with the elephants during the 4 days quite relaxed without the day guests and learned a lot about them. Especially that Asian elephants are such good swimmers, I did not know. They like to go into hiding with their whole body, which was nice to watch, even from our terrace. It was cooked every day for us, great freshly prepared food and all the staff were very open-minded and helpful. A great experience, especially to witness the harmonious interaction of mahout and elephant, I really liked! Definitely recommended to spend at least 2 nights there! Thanks to the whole team.Visited December 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten December 8, 2024
- Karen KLondon, United Kingdom24 contributionsI booked direct with the official website and got confirmation with clear info about our trip and cost. We are a family of 5 and there is a discount on our 2 younger kids. My enquiry messages are replied very quickly. On the day before the trip we got further confirmation of pick up point. Our driver Siri arrived 5 min before the agreed time and he drove us to destination with lots of introductions about Thailand, Bangkok and regions beyond. The whole day program is exactly what says on the tin. Everything went perfectly with a relaxing pace. Elephants are cared for ethically and you can feel the love in the community. Our children were looked after and helped in all the feeding activities and lake bath activities. Lunch was simple but nice. The whole environment feels so clean and calm. Gift shop is lovely. Shower facilities are basic but clean. Very well organised.Visited October 2024Traveled with familyWritten November 11, 2024
- Alix de PenfentenyoVannes, France31 contributionsIt was really great! I went there with my sister (reservation on GetYourGuide), we were picked up by a driver in Kanchanaburi for 8:30 a.m. to go to ElephantsWordl, the welcome was super warm, Eda took great care of us. directly placed in trust with the elephants. We started the day by feeding the elephants (we had boxes with turnips, watermelons and bananas to give them directly through their trunks). Then we went to cut bamboo which we then gave to the elephants. The staff always offered to take photos of us to keep lots of memories! This was followed by the preparation of food for the old elephants (it was bouillabaisse) Afterwards we went with them into the boiling water to dirty them. Right after we took them into the river to wash them using brushes, water fights followed with Mana one of the guides, we were able to cuddle them and clean them, it was really great! The morning ended with a little motorbike ride with Zéro (we were privileged haha) and a really good meal in front of the river! Thanks to the reservation on GetYourGuide we were able to go to the Erawan waterfalls, the climb to the 7th level took us around 28 minutes on military march. The view is worth it, but level 1 is still the nicest even if there are a little more people than on the 7th! I really advise you to do the elephant activity which is really great, they are treated really well and the staff is great (we enjoyed it so much that we left them each a tip!)Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 20, 2024

That's when I felt the biggest connection The elephant were calm and friendly and funny. I wish I had more timeVisited March 2024Traveled soloWritten March 29, 2024
- Marcel H13 contributionsWe planned our trip and didn't know so much about the Elphant World before but were really excited. Away from the front, of course, tourists are also here but without tourists this resort could not be operated for the animals. Our guide Kehm was able to tell us a lot and answer almost all questions. The program is well thought out and planned the animals have a maximum of 5 hours a day program after which they have their rest. The resort is a catchment point for working elephants who had to work in the forest or at the Circus, as well as outcast elephants and mounts of the time. Here, it is not ridden but cared for. This includes collecting food to prepare washing and scrubbing. On the whole very nicely groomed animals friendly staff great facility. We were happy!Visited December 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten December 24, 2024

From the staff member who picked us up at our hotel, to our guide at the park, the elephant handlers and all the other staff. It was sold to us as a place respectful of the elephants who lived there.
In the end, we ended up there with a horde of tourists and elephants who have to go to the chain to eat / go in the mud / go into the river... with a small elephant that we force to spit water on the chain for the photo, that we force to lie down so that people sit on it...
Our 5-year-old daughter enjoyed, obviously... the scenery is beautiful and the elephants impressive. We explained to him pq we would not go to make the photos and the rest of the activities...
In short, to replace with something else if you are attentive to animal welfare

People were Nice. However, the Elephants are still on a circuit suited to make the best picuture for big group of tourists. They do not have a choice in being lead around and are made to stay in the water or in a pose so tourists can wash them or to get their pictures taken. Even when the elephants want to get out, the mahout is there with a pulling his ears making it stay in the water. This is unethical and i went home with a big stone in my belly.

This is by far the coolest experience ive had. To be able to help bath and feed these animals who crave human interacting was the most special thing I’ve experienced with an animal. The staff cares for these elephants deeply and you can tell just by the way the elephants walk when they’re around their caretakers. It is 100% worth the trip to Kanchanaburi. We did a 1/2 day which was 1800 baht ($50) per person. We didn’t feel rushed and we had more than enough time to feed them, prepare a meal for them, give them a mud bath and scrub them before heading back to the main area for a wonderful lunch!

We stayed in Bangkok and had the full day experience. We were picked up at 630am, returning back quite late around 6 or 630pm. Was so worth the drive out there for a wonderful experience with the elephants. We did the full day where we fed them pumpkins, made sticky rice for the old lady elephant with no teeth, washed in mud, then in the river. Also went out into the field to cut the cane for the elephants. Buffet lunch was included and beautiful food with lots of cold water.

We stayed 1 night-2 days in the sanctuary and it was one of the best experience of our life. The booking was smooth. We got picked up by a funky driver from Kanchanaburi, he was explaining every building/park/temple along the way-he was the funniest “tour guide” ever. When we arrived we got greeted and jumped right into the experience. We fed the elephants, walked with them, cooked for them, gave them a bath and so on. The food was very tasty, we got 2 lunches, a breakfast and a dinner, all were really nice, catering for any needs or allergies. Our accommodation was right next to the river, with a beautiful terrace, where we could really relax. The room had an AC, which made the heat so much more acceptable. On day two we had even more elephant experience, an early morning hike to the nearby hills and also a really cool river floating experience. They really care about the elephants and generally about animals. We loved every minute of this experience. Highly recommended!

What a fantastic experience this was! (3 adults + 1, 7 year old) we all loved it from start to finish! Having a go at all the different stages of looking after a group of elephants culminating in a swim and ay in the river as the young baby elephant playfully squirted us!

During my visit, they forced a baby elephant to spray water on tourist by pulling at its ear. They also made the elephants stand in line for selfies with tourist. I would ask if this is ethical treatment if not at the elephants’ will. Also, how many tourist do these elephants interact with per day. Do they get breaks? When I asked, the tour guide could not give me an answer.

Overall - I have the impression that I was involved in something not really good for these beautiful animals.
The elephants were tied with a short chain to the leg while being fed by visitors. Elephant bathing, in my opinion, was more entertainment for visitors than pleasure for elephants.
Additionally, the elephants were forced to pose for photos during and after bathing. Also, sprinkling water on us with the trumpets was not really the initiative of the elephants, but it was like a circus trick...

We booked a morning session and that was a very pleasant change of the day. You will face several experiences, from feeding elephants till washing them and concluded with a nice lunch. People were very friendly and for the kids it ended with swimming in the river. Would recommend to everyone and in my opinion much better than the safari park, which gave us the feeling the animals were abused for human pleasure.

We were at Elephantsworld on August 11th 2022. They were very friendly. Even called us that the pick up at the hotel was a half hour late. At Elephantsworld we got a nice Thai lunch and fresh fruits. Than our guide, Chang, came to tell us that we could start feeding the elephants. There were 3. One was a little one. So cute. After that we went for the banana plantation to cut old bananatrees also to feed the elephants. When we drove to the mudbath/river. They already came towards us because they knew there was food again. After feeding they took their mudbath. We could help to put the mud on the elephants. And after that they walked into the river for cleaning and have their spa-treatment. We brushed the mud from the elephants and they said thank you by spraying water all over us.
We also visited the oldest elephant to feed her. She got cooked Rice with banana and the minerals she needs. We made balls of it and put them into the mouth of the elephant. Everyone who works there is so friendly and involved with these animals. We learned so much from these people. Thank you for this great experience. This was a day that we never forget.

Why would elephants want dozens of strangers throwing water on them multiple times a day? Can you call this a sanctuary, it doesn't even meet trip advisors animal welfare standards?
Written December 18, 2024
What forms of payment are taken at the sanctuary? Website doesn't say card or cash.
Written August 1, 2022
Just cash, I asked by email a few weeks ago

Are the elephants treated ethically here? I was interested in the mahout program but was also wondering as to why the elephants need a mahout in the first place if the whole point of freeing the elephants from slavery is to have them be themselves in the wild.
Written March 4, 2022
Yes, the elephants are treated ethically there. The elephants have a lot of freedom, but the mahouts help guide them.

Im asking because this its the Songkran holiday

Good question and one that is not easy to answer. In general most places are open during Songkran because it is high season. But in Thailand anything can happen, It would be best to contact them directly.

Written December 27, 2018
Dear Customer,
Pregnant women can visit out sanctuary and we recommend not to get into the water with the elephants in case you slip and fall.
Our customers safety comes first and we will be as prudent as we can.
