One of the few shops in Hua Hin without pushy vendors standing at the door, That non-intrusive nature continued as my friends and I leisurely shopped for Xmas pressies, buying lots of unique souvenirs in the process.

I picked up a really nice wallet made from teak tree leaves and my wife got her hands on some sandals made from water hyacinth.

Everything on display has a story and it's well-worth reading the information provided – this will be sure to make you feel extra pleased with your purchase.

I've travelled around Thailand extensively over the past decade and it's a shame there aren't more quality, honest and affordable boutiques like The Family Tree.

Thanks for helping to make our Christmas gifts extra special!

The Family Tree is not just a gift shop, though it is that. There are many gift shops in Hua Hin, but this one is different. It is an education into the life and livelihood of a part of Thailand that is changing rapidly. Ebony dyed cloth, painted story pictures, woven hangings and much more is available. The owners know how the goods are made and will explain the method to you. They practice Fair Trade. They are a small family business with high ideals and many ideas for expansion. Part of their profits go to reforestation. Visit them and learn about Thai Crafts as well as take home meaningful and useful gifts to your friends and family.

We fell in love with this shop immediately and bought a number of beautiful handmade items. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, and it's great to support such a deserving group of people.by buying through fair trade.

When you saunter around, looks into the shop..slow down and just 'ahaa'
This place has a soul, It's an very nice thought behind it all and the lady who works there is just amazing! With no interest in selling, she wants to tell the story behind it all,and then also is very pleased to tell you about the best place to go after visiting Hua Hin.
Give her some good feedback, she is worth it all, and the stuff is really good!

The Family Tree is much more than a shop, it's a calm moment of reflection on reality and what goes into making the products that so many of us take for granted. The shop is owned by a couple that takes fair and ethical trade very seriously and are absolutely passionate about what they do and who they work with. As a customer, you are able to ask about the story behind any article in the shop and will be entertained for ages while the knowledge unfolds. I cannot recommend a visit (accompanied by a purchase) to Family Tree more highly and wish them every success in the future...looking forward to our next visit myself too :)

Buying your souvenirs from Family Tree is a wonderful way to give back to the environment and Thailand's rich culture. The owners support indigenous craft and also invest in tree planting and environmental concerns. The staff are helpful and informative, there is a selection of beautiful fabrics clothes and luxury hand made cosmetics. The woman who runs the store began with Oxfam and is making a difference to disenfranchised communities and providing economies to poorer tribes people of Thailand or those effected by the Tsunami. This is a must shop to visit if you are in Hua Hin.

We first stumbled upon this shop in April and revisited this month. If you are looking for gifts or novelty goods, buy from here in the knowledge that your purchase has not been mass produced in a factory, but has been hand made to be sold and make a difference to peoples lives. I greatly admire what is being done here and wish Peter and Dtor success in all their work for less fortunate people. You are truly inspiring!!

Having read reviews on this shop and frustrated by the "typical" shopping in Hua Hin I decided to visit The Family Tree. I spent almost two hours in this lovely shop, browsing and talking to the owner. She explained where things had been made and how the were made, every item had a personal story to it and value that was not measured in the monetary way. I bought a lot of gifts here, I will be able to tell my family where the came from and the effort put into each item. I must say that everything was special, ebony used to dye a silk scarf that I bought for my daughter I hope will be a treasured gift for use throughout her life time. I walked out happier than when I entered. You need not look any further than this shop for your special Thai gifts. I know my family and i will enjoy these gifts for a long time to come. I have not even spoken about the community work the owners undertake using the profits, go down and meet them and learn how special this place is.

Dear Lisa, What a lovely review! Thank-you so much for taking the time to write about The Family Tree. It is inspiring to feel this sense of deeper value, when a work of art or a simple handmade craft catches our attention and communicates something to us. And, it's especially wonderful to find something which is 'just right' as a gift for someone who one loves, like your daughter. In Thai culture, silk is a very meaningful gift. Silks are traditionally given as gifts to close family members on important occasions like weddings. Giving natural dyed silk is especially meaningful, because these traditions have been refined and passed down over many generations. Natural dying connects people, art and culture to nature. To sustain natural dying, local artisans must plant and care for trees, which plays a part in protecting the environment. Buying these textiles is helps to keep this local knowledge alive, at a time when it is much cheaper and quicker for community members (who are buy like everyone else) to use chemical dyes from the markets. I'm sure that when your daughter knows this, she will treasure the silk even more. It is a gift which has meaning to you and to Thailand on many levels. Happy and safe travels, Dtor, Peter and the Family Tree team

I really was impressed by this shop, All of the handicrafts and gifts are sourced from Thai artisans helping in promoting responsible and sustainable tourism. The staff are so hospitable and they can tell you the history of all the products, My favourite items were the recycled teak wood elephants, Monkey from recycled paper, and awesome recycled paper jewelry, There is a massive choice of hand dyed silk, including ebony , so unique that there was only 2 pieces left ..well only 1 now ! and for every 1000 Baht you spend they will plant a tree so whilst getting all my presents I planted 6 trees ! I definately recommend a visit to see what products they have and what great work they are supporting.
