    Amazing Phenomenon
Arranged for a private taxi to bring myself and a friend here. The published time to be here was 5:30pm when in fact the bats don’t evacuate the caves until 6:30pm; so we arrived here an hour early which was annoying but our amazing host kept us entertained. When I expressed my desire to pickup some “refreshments” to pass the time while we waited for dusk he generously offered me a ride to the store to get what I needed. Our host has assembled a riser with benches facing the caves on multiple levels. I believe there is a first come first served 30 person limit on viewing. A large van arrived with several viewers around 6:00pm. There is not set fee to view the bats but there is a donation box in clear view. It’s unfortunate that viewers here tend to be blind to the box. You’re on someone’s property using his display area he took the time to assemble. The least you could do is throw a few bucks his way. When the bats finally left the cave it was amazing the shear number in the millions as they exited in an organized line. It was amazing and well worth the taxi ride and the wait. Highly recommend.

Deserves more than 5 stars - very cool experience!
This is one of the coolest things to do/see in Cha-am / Hua Hin. It definitely requires a car or a hired driver to get to it. CRITICAL: The bats fly out at sunset. That means sometime between 5:30pm-6:30pm, depending on the time of the year. No need to get there more than 5 minutes before sunset. It takes about 15 minutes for all of the 1-2M bats to exit. Be *sure* to watch for the Hawks who lay in wait and in the first few minutes of the exodus will dive bomb the bats to get their dinner. There is a donation box...give them 50 baht/person. If you get there early, feed the fish in the pool below the watching stand (20 baht/bag of feed). There were a couple albino carp swimming among the many normal/gray carp.

If you have not seen it before in real life
Went there twice as I missed the bats on the first visit. Both ocassions, there was a man there waiting to collecting money from visitors. I was there on weekends (Sat & Sun), so I suspect the reviewer who did not meet anyone to collect money went on a weekday. Do recommend if you have not seen this in real life before, pretty amazing to see so many bats flying together.

Our perspectives are based on being two wildlife biologists who work for the federal government in the United States in the State of Alaska. This experience is breath-taking, awe-inspiring, and a natural spectacle that should not be missed by anyone close to Cha-am, Thailand. The 15-minute display of bats emerging from a mountain cave will be enoyed by young and old alike whether they enjoy bats or not and irrespective of their interests in natural history. People from all over the world should marvel at this 15-minute display at not only the numbers of individuals but their pattern against the evneing sky. Rarely, does the public have an opportunity to witness such a spectacle. In sharp contrast to the noise, lights, glitter, and commericial beach scene, you will experience an event in nature depected in the mountains and quaint agricultural lands of Thailand. We happened to enjoy farmers moving a hundred or so head of cattle, some with bells down the road in front of the observation deck. Another great experience for us.

Only in Thailand will you witness a specular event of Mother Nature that only the locals really know about. Every evening at around dusk (6:10 pm) an estimated 5 million bats pour out of a giant cave in a steady ribbon-like stream. It is an amazing sight. You can hear the bats in the distance and as they fly overhead. The place for viewing is the rooftop of a house directly in front of the cave. Cost is 20baht per person to view and this is what you get, a once in a life time view for pennies. This is a local area (not designed for tourists). On the viewing area, you will find old, highly damaged school chairs to sit on. For the adventurous, there are toilets on-sight. To find the Cha-am bat cave is not easy. It is only 5km from Cha-am, there is no website for this place so it is difficult to find. Google Cha Am bat cave and you will find an interactive map link to the location on the postcards from Bangkok website link. Hope you find it like we did and get to enjoy an amazing sight.

An interesting natural spectacle that you should not miss if you are in the Cha - Am area, transport is needed. Google: bats view point for directions, about 10 minutes off the main road.
This is free, please see my pic of the sign. We were talking to the owner who showed us around his fields, clearly he is a subsistence farmer. I don't understand why he doesn't charge or perhaps open a small shop, he must be content.
Tried to leave some money but there was nowhere to put it and the owner had disappeared.
It is surreal seeing millions of bats emerging and following the colony in a swooping line, distinguished against, and disappearing into the night sky. Enough bats for you to be able to hear them as they pass by overhead. This spectacle must have been here for thousands of years uninterrupted by humans.
All done by 18.30, be there before sunset, say 17.30. They start to emerge around 18.10, I guess times can vary a little depending on time of year. Our visit 11 December.
Don't forget the mossy cream.

This place can be difficult to find as there are absoultely no signs. The place from where you can watch the bats leaving the cave is a private house with a blue roof and a "SALE sign on a veranda. The location is: 12.872895,99.938948
It is certainly worth the effort to come here at sun set and see millions of bats going on their night hunting trip. Just at sun set you start seeing low flying bats litteraly around your face and app 10 minutes after the sun is set black 'clouds' of bats leave the mountain. It is truly amazing.

Very interesting to see, amazing actually, they came out at about 6:30, millions of Bats came and flew out of the cave, it only last a few minutes, so be ready when they come out, not easy to find if you do not know the area, but everybody knows about it in the area, it's a little north of Cha am, the 2nd mountain going north, the next after Panturat, they come out going east, toward the ocean, so even if you are on the road you can see them, or there is a farmer that has a platform to look at them, with chairs and tables, and toilet as well, he charges nothing but we gave him a tip, enjoy

Very cool! No frills, just bats. The viewing area is just a guy's house with a deck to view from. Not up to safety code...railings and stairs not perfectly great. But no matter, you could see this from the driveway or the street. An amazing stream of bats flow from the cave for 10 or more minutes starting soon after sunset. It really is worth seeing.

We saw this on Trip Advisor and are glad we did. Found it a great experience. We arrived around 17:50 and Almost immediately the bats appeared. it lasted for about 15 mins. Felt very privileged to have witnessed this and it cost nothing. Felt miles away from the hustle and bustle of the resort's yet it was only about a 15 min drive from Cha am. We will definitely go again.

We went to the bat cave expecting to have to walk inside the caves, how wrong were we. It was amazing to see all these hundreds and thousands of bats taking flight from outside the caves. Take your video cameras with you
