My wife & I stumbled on this temple while riding our scooter around Cha-Am. If you have had enough beach time -- or want to explore some of the nearby Wats, this on is recommended. The highlight is the cave and the surrounding trails. There quite a lot of 'Soi Dogs' that are a little intimidating. They seem quick to bark. There is also a large pig on the grounds that is sure to make you smile. The monks & monkettes were all friendly. We saw no other tourists while we were there. The grounds can be explored in 30 minutes-- all for free, unless you care to donate. Remember to dress appropriately.

If you enjoy visiting temples, you will likely enjoy this one. Against the backdrop of a small mountain, some of the temple areas are located in small caves in the mountain. Lots of trees and shady areas to stroll. Worth a visit if you are a temple person.

Perfect for someone longing for quiet place to walk up and down the little mountain.
There are statues in the cave which kinda wonderful plus this temple has a long history back to the old capital, Ayuthaya.

Having spent four months working in Cha Am, I fell in love with the place.
The Temple is worth a visit as long as you use respect for the Thai culture and understand there beliefs in Buddhism.
I used to go there every other day for I found it peaceful and tranquil just to sit there and have a cold drink.
The monks are very friendly and love having a chat with you.
It is such a beautiful place it is worth a visit.
Cha Am is a Great place and if I may say, you must go to Baan Chang Music Bar on the main street front. I can assure you that you will have a great night, while you sit outside at night with a warm tropical breeze blowing.
Also if you hire a scooter, you can see more and it it quite safe to drive there. Plus it is great fun. You can get to places you would never think about going.
Hope you have a great holiday
Take care
Frank.

Due to the location of the Wat there are not many visitors, while the Wat certainly desrves a visit. A climb to the top of the stairs is well worth the effort.

So many temples to see in Thailand and they all have something to offer the visitor. This place has many shrines including the Reclining Buddha with caves. Its a long climb to reach theose caves and very little health and safety provision. Not a place where the elderly or infirm could easily explore.
However it is a fascinating place and worth visiting

The temple premises are open to anyone without any cost and are easily accessible from the Cha-am centre.
Three Thai friends had accompanied us to the temple. In no time they had proceeded to climb the steps lined with a brightly-coloured multi-headed naga (mythical serpent) on each side of the path on the hill-side.
I desisted joined them due to a fear of heights, I ambled around the temple premises on the ground, not accessing the prayer hall or study rooms. Outside, there were the usual Buddhist artifacts and images spread strategically around. Unfortunately, a pack of dogs (either they were strays or were official temple resident assets) followed my every move around, barking ferociously and noisily, ever ready to pounce any moment; and prevented me from having a more fruitful or relaxing walk. Perhaps, the dogs had been trained to 'protect' the premises. I was quite distressed by this and decided to pick up a stick and maintain extreme alertness and awareness of the environment in the event they should charge at me suddenly, which was a pity as I had hoped to have a leisure and quiet afternoon on my own, in the absence of my friends up the hill. When my friends returned within the hour, I was greatly relieved. While I had missed the cave adventure on the hill-top, the visit was still deeply ingrained due to the excitement caused by the fierce barking dogs.

Small temple complex in full development. We were the only visitors over there. You can see it attracted many people, but everything is worn. Nice place to spend about an hour if you walk all around the site.

Lovely temple up a steep set of stairs. As you walk in the entrance there is a statue of Buddhism hell...when you walk into the grounds follow the path round and start climbing.there is a really old fresco and chedhi. Keep climbing and you will find a recling Buddha. This wat is 500 years old. You can then walk down the stairs and ring the bells for good luck. You can buy chicken feed to give to the numerous chickens roaming around..or for a Chang dog food for the soi dogs who have made this home.
