Surat Thani night market is a must place to visit if you are at Surat Thani Town. We have been traveled numerous part of Thailand, hence Surat Thani night market were the best in term of the price wise. I notice that the food, and items offers there are quite cheap compare to other night market. I love the view of the market, the food is undeniably scrumptious and worth visit!

A very popular place among the local community, it is even more interesting to see it as a tourist. A wide variety of food - from meats and seafood, through fruit, to sweets. Very nice experience! We highly recommend fresh juices.

There are many inexpensive food choices but few seating options. Unlike the night markets in places like Chiang Mai, you won't find many souvenirs or clothes sold. Worth visiting if you are in Surat Thani

Great variety of food for omnivors, vegetarian, and vegans. Prices are very low and food is really good. Highly recommend the fresh juices! Perfect evening location after shopping or as a quick stop before the night activities.

An absolute must if you're staying in Surat Thani. Hundreds of food stalls packed into a few streets. Really clean with lovely people. We grazed all evening. We were there on a Thursday and there was plenty going on.

This night market is probably the cheapest place to eat out in Surat Thani. it is right next to the port where the night ferries dock which take you to Koh Samui and Koh Phanghan. Usually the ferries leave about 11pm and so when you get to Surat Thani you probably have several hours to kill, so why not have a nice meal from one of the street stalls and even a few beers. There are usually many stalls selling different kinds of Thai food such as noodle soup, (kwayteo nam) fried rice (kao pat) with seafood (aharn talay) /chicken (Gai) /pork (Moo)or vegetables (pak) or various types of curry (Kaeng). You often get a free side plate of raw vegetables such as sataw (a large smelly kind of bean, which is actually quite tasty but gives you bad breath), small green egg plants and different leaves and raw runner beans. Most of the traders do not speak much English so this is a chance to try out your Thai. 'I would like...' in Thai is 'tong kan'. Then say what you would like , for example Kao pat Gai (fried rice with chicken), Koa pat Nua (fried rice with beef), Kao pat goong (fried rice with prawns), Kao pat plaa-meuk (fried rice with squid) or Kao pat Kai Gai ( fried rice with egg). Other things are Taow Huu (tofu) , plaa (fish) or if you are vegetarian tell them 'Gin nua sat mai dai' (I cannot eat meat) You can also say 'Gin Jay' which means 'I am vegetarian'. Caution for Jewish people that 'MOO' is the Thai word for pork and pig, so do not imitate a cow by saying 'MOO' if you want beef. Beef in Thai is 'Nua Wua' which literally means 'meat cow.' The food at these stalls will vary depending on who is cooking and what you decide to eat. Many local people also eat here so it is quite cheap, however to be on the safe side ( if you are drinking ) do not let them take away your empties before you are ready to pay. This is your only evidence of how many bottles of beer you have consumed. When chatting to the friendly locals be wary if they offer you local spirit called Lao Kow or Ya Dong (a red coloured spirit) .These are extremely strong, similar to a home made version of tequilla and if you were unlucky to get a bad brew it could give you brain damage. You don't want to be too plastered if you are about to go on an overnight ferry because you will be sleeping on the floor on a bamboo mat in a very small boat, which will arrive in Samui about 6am.

All night markets in Thailand are worth a visit and the one in Surat Thani is no exception. Please note that it is not the market by the river near the departure point for the boats to Koh Samui.
There are a number of good food stalls where you can either take away or sit down at the back of the stall...the prices are the same. There's a very good stall selling pad thai ...look for a stall with lots of customers and be prepared to use your elbows as queuing doesn't really exist! For 30 baht you can have a good tasty meal. Halal food is also available. One stall to avoid is the one selling noodles and curry ( run by two ladies wearing an enormous amount of make up!)..they will insist you have to buy two portions. There are enough other food stalls to be able to avoid this one. Try the stall selling honey pork sticks and also the one near the entrance to the temple selling patango.
There are stalls selling fruit but look for the ones showing the prices and make sure you pick you own otherwise you might well be disappointed.Fruit at this market is usually cheaper than at the fruit stalls by the river which tend to attract tourists waiting for the boats. Clothes, make up and dvds are also on sale but again make sure you know the price before you buy.
It's busy most evenings so don't flash your cash. Most of the stall holders are great and won't try to rip you off but, alas, some will!
The market has a facebook page but you will need to be able to read thai.

It's just all the same stuff along the chaweng street but if you are looking for a food street goodies, this is the place for it. Besides that, along the chaweng street there are plenty of street walk from clothing to souvenirs but you must bargain it for at least half the price as this is a heavy tourist spot.

Lots of fun. Music, and lots of interesting stalls, including food. We did a little shopping on the way to the night market, and then spent on the rest of the evening there - it was a great way to explore Lamai.
