This market is certainly popular with local Thais every Sunday. Now and again, there is a special event which, on this occasion we visited, was celebrating the third birthday of the market by giving out free food. In reality there were far too many people there and it was almost impossible to see what food was being given away. Despite staff asking people not to take the food away from the market, we saw many people heading back to their cars with bags of the food.
Normally, even though the market is still popular, it's not as busy although parking can still be a problem despite the best efforts of staff. Some drivers can't be bothered to park properly and just abandon their cars without any thought of other people wanting to park.
There are many stalls selling fruit and cooked foods all reasonably priced. Some have tables and chairs so you can sit by the Klong and enjoy what's on offer.
It's a good way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday and to sample local food.
Highly recommended.

Pracharat Floating Market is another tourist attraction that you must visit if you travel to Surat Thani. The floating market is located at Bang Bai Mai Temple, Bang Bai Sub-district. Surat Thani, in addition to being a retro market that promotes traditional food sales, this market still has a traditional way of life for villagers, a boat ride, a canopy of hundreds of canals, from the boat cost only 20 baht. Sunday only

What an interesting market. Whilst many of the stalls aren't exactly floating, there are sufficient waterways around to make you feel as though you're almost walking on water!
It's held on Sundays and by afternoon it is very busy so car parking can be something of a problem not helped by some people "abandoning" their cars in the most inconvenient of places. You can park in the temple grounds, in the adjacent school or wherever there is a spare plot of land.
There are stalls selling many different types of food and snacks as well as fruit and vegetables. Some places have tables where you can sit and eat a meal. There are some fresh fish stalls but these seemed to be quite expensive compared to other markets.
What is probably unique to this market, certainly in Suratthani, is that boat trips are available on the klong or canal ( life jackets supplied!)
Worth visiting for a flavour of local life and food but would suggest visiting on a Sunday morning.

Well organized and identity local floating market near Surat Thani downtown. The market is located on both side of canal banks. There are many kind of local foods, local products, fresh fruits, vegetables and seafoods for sales every Sunday during 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.. Boat tour pier is near the temple. An easy way to go there by taxi meter or the scooter.. The perfect time to visit this floating market is between 9:00 - 11.00 a.m., after that the roads are very crowded.

Any market in Thailand on a Sunday will be busy and Pra chat Rat is no exception so it's probably better to go early rather than late particularly from a car parking point of view. There is plenty of parking available and staff do their best but inevitably some visitors will park where they want without thought for others.
Very few of the food stalls are actually floating but there is plenty of water around so use your imagination. Boat rides are available on the klong ( life jackets available). As you enter from the car parks, there is a small market and then you just follow the paths, and the crowds, around the klong area. Prices are very reasonable and genuine Thai food is on offer either to take away or, by some of the stalls are tables to eat at.
Look out for special events including some entertaining pole boxing!
Well worth visiting.
