If you ever come this way, and there might be several reasons for that...
The beach may not be the best and cleanest, but still nice somehow, and stretches a long way along the coastline here (I just saw a small part of it...). This is surely an alternative to the more crowded and busy Pattaya and Jomtien, and closer to Bangkok. Bus from Ekkamai can take you there. A lot of hotels along the beachroad, at different prices.
Not so touristified as other places in Thailand.
But the reason I wanted to write this review, was a restaurant I found here, called Rico Beach. I had dinner here two nights, and it was so delicious and delicate - to a fair price. I paid less than 200 baht for a tasty pastadish, ang 250 for Fish and chips. Well made and served. About 100 baht for a large beer.
I will give this place 5 stars. Remember :
Rico Beach restaurant!

The water is passable to swim and the beach is long and vast, but do not count this place as a real Thai beach. It is a close to bangkok thai beach. That's all. The real beautiful white sand beaches are not here. This one is standard looking, not special at all. It is fun though. Tons of local thais, thai food, sea food with spicy sauce. hawkers, filled with umbrellas and beach chairs you can barely see the sand! It is a great experience, but don't count this as seeing a Thai beach! Go to Krabi, Phuket and the islands pleas!

A great beach of two parts. Towards the north, there is a long, about 2.25 km, palm-lined walk with a nice sandy beach that is kept clean and well maintained. Other than Mondays there are hundreds of vendors selling food and drink plus beach apparel. To the south, there is a pleasant promenade that is used every night by people sitting on mats and eating al fresco. The beach here is small, very silted sand and is not cleaned, there is a lot of debris, not very appealing. The prom is backed up by many bars, hotels and snack type shops. The whole area is packed at the weekend, mainly with Thais, not many ferang. The sunsets can be spectacular.

Bang Sean has its advantages and some drawbacks. I liked the fact its so close to Pattaya and Bangkok roughly an hour each way and I also like thats not tarnished with girly bars if you live there the cost of living is less than Bangkok and Pattaya. The water and beach are nice but plastic rubbish in the water and on the 5KL. Long beach is a bit of turn off, plastic in the water and one the sand, this is very much a Thai resort location best hotel is Tide with Heritage coming in close second great Thai food at THB 35 for cheapest noodles. House and condo option are not great near the beach Onpa is quite good at roughly THB 9500/ per month for years contract and utilities at THB 1500 per month. Good coffee shops and hidden places to discover. Being a University town there its very young crowd for best part. For Western food you have Momo Click Cafe BMC Burger but a motor scooter is needed and can rented for about THB500 a day. Nice market next to Le Cafing where you can get Gin and Tonic for THB 80 or THB 120 for double and lot of nice cheap food shirts and candy. Great coffee shops Le Cafing Tripple N and Click Cafe traffic is heavy on weekends, Tuesday there are no vendors on the beach is nice quite day but bring your fold up chair. So for westerners is not a great bar scene but you make do Buff House Escobar Laguna Junk Pub Izakate sort of work one shopping mall with Tops Supermarket or Makro for your cheese etc can be done.

They should consider renaming Bang Saen Beach, 'Plastic Fantastic'. If every food stall holder along the beachfront, and there are many, was required to clean their section of the beach daily things could be so much better. Do Thais not care about the litter they are dumping on this beach? They arrive in their coach loads, feast on takeaway food and leave everything on the beach. There are no litter pickers and the place is filthy. I counted over 100 elastic bands in a 20 meter stretch. It's so sad the Chonburi authority does not act to clean this beach up

If you want to really get an impression of what locals do, visit this beach. Be aware that in Thailand extensive sunbathing is not the usual thing - rather sitting fully dressed under umbrellas, wating wnderful food frm the respective beaches streetfood restaurant, and watching children play in the sand and water. Watersports of all kinds are available. It's really a place to observe local culture and enjoy a wonderful view and nice, sandy beach. If you are looking fo r a place to lie naked in the sun and grill yourself, this is definitely not the place. But if you are looking for a clean and quiet place to hang our for some hours, it is. Evening visits are better (not so hot and a beautiful sunset).

Bangsaen Beach is situated approximately 100 km southeast of Bangkok and 13 km from Chonburi town. The beach now attracts those who enjoy strolling along the long sandy beach and tasting the delicious seafood available from vendors along the pavement. There are reasonable-priced accommodations along the beach.

Bangkok wants to go to the beach, Pattaya and Hua Hin are both far away, and Bonsheng Beach is an option. Just watch the time and don't miss the bus. Fewer visitors, more locals in Thailand. Toilet is paid, attention! Lots of snacks. The beach is clean and clear, but I personally prefer the bustling beach, more happy. Maybe Pattaya or Burgas Beach is better for me.

Loved it. So unPattayaish. A working fishing village expanding to the West into a resort frequented mainly by Thais from Bangkok. Plenty of good seafront accommodation with spectacular sunsets and seascape. Plenty of good eateries. Do try Eat Steak restaurant. Delicious Thai food and simply cooked meats to suit all tastes.

Is this beach open now? Has the restrictions been lifted ?
Written September 19, 2021
Yes, there are! But remember that Bang Saen, unlike nearby Pattaya, is essentially a Thai weekend resort with a small fishing fleet, that deliver fresh fish every morning, but there are some bars and several good all-you-can eat
buffet restaurants, from 169 baht per person.

This area primarily caters for Thai families - wealthy ones mainly from Bangkok who can afford a beach side get away. So even finding an Australian TV channel would be a challenge. Internet access is quite good. Maybe it would be possible to view AFL via this means.

I am hoping to get to Bang Saen in the evening (flight will arrive from Chiang Mai) around 8.30pm . Anyone know if they are indeed any buses in the evening. Everything i am finding online seems to say they end quite earlier. As it is just an hour away any idea what the cost of a taxi might be? once again i had a look online but i saw such a variety trying to decide if worth attempting to get there that night or not?
Written May 11, 2017
I agree with Vince M - it would be better to get a hotel near the airport (there are lots of inexpensive ones that will pick you up from the airport) and travel the next day. If you do decide to travel to Bang Saen directly, make sure to have dinner first - most, if not all, restaurants in Bang Saen will be closed when you get there.
The taxi/car ride is about an hour and a half from the airport (definitely not an hour!). If you hire a car and driver online, it will cost 2300 to 2500 baht.

How can I come to Bangsaen from Airport?
Written December 15, 2016
You can go to the transport hub at the airport and get a coach directly to Bangsean Beach. The coach to Pattaya also stops at Nongmon market from where you can get a songtaew or motorbike taxi for the last few minutes of the journey.

I would like to visit Thailand but I am a dog/animal lover. Is there a lot of cruelty /strays there. Do they sell dogs to eat. Tku
Written December 3, 2016
Eating dogs is a Korean & Vietnam thing----not Thailand. There are however a lot of soi (street) dogs depending where you are---they seem to get fed though. Thais own a lot of dogs but they are not treated as pets the way we westerners do. Many/most are kept outside by pet owners. That said, don't let it deter you from visiting.
