Just returned from the 3 nights, 4 days on board MW Reggae Queen.
Some comments:
- THE COMPANY AND STAFF
very professional from booking right through to your transfers from and to hotel. Eike is really a star!!!;
- AT SEA
Andy was our tour leader (pirate) What a lovely soul! He exchanged information on Thai culture, the undersea world and his laugh is “one in a million”. On Every dive/snorkel, he accompanies you, takes underwater pics and shows you something interesting. He was helpful with meds, making cocktails, taking us for some land excursions. In short: he was FUN!
Captain Nun- he lost most of his family during the tsunami in 2004. He is a truly amazing person with a gentle soul and you could not ask for a more experienced captain.
The chef: I called her Mama. Oh my word, the food she produced in a two by one meter kitchen!!! Delicious, authentic Thai food. So fresh and beautifully prepared.
Boat boys: Nai and “big boy”: very helpful, friendly and NOTHING is too much to ask!
The boat was AWESOME! Newly painted! The sleeping quarters are clean, enough toilets and showers (all shared), the dining deck fantastic and the sun deck was our go-to place after a snorkel.
All in all a super de lux experience with my daughter! Next time, Myanmar!!!

Totally brilliant! Excellent tour, loads of dives, fabulous food. Ideal for teenagers upwards, best if you’ve snorkelled before and are fit and able. These guys know where to go to escape the crowds and find sea life!

Spent the best few days on the boat. Saw all that can be seen. Great time with the crew and guides.
Lucky to have seen mantas on 100% of dives. Whale sharks etc. All beautiful. Few cocktails and beers in the evening. Beautiful sunsets.
Special mention to the crew especially the wonderful lady who cooks all the meals. Thank you for a wonderful few days.

So there are some very good things about this trip:
The boat is in good shape, the beers were always icy cold, the food was great and plentiful, good variety of soft drinks available, the 'boat boys' were smiley and helpful, cabins were ok, plenty of room up top for relaxation on our trip (8 guests), snorkelling equipment was really good.
The snorkelling was pretty good. Unfortunately we didn't get to see any of the really big fish but we did see sharks, moray eels, lion fish, turtles etc. In general the abundance of fish was wonderful and lovely to swim through shoal after shoal.
The Moken village had more tourists on it than villagers on the day that we visited.
Sadly the negative aspect of our experience was down to our tour leader Ralf. His guests seemed like a bit of an inconvenience to him in general. Not exactly captain smiley.
There was no banter, no camaraderie encouraged and not really any form of welcome.
Significant communication about the trip was printed out and passed round in near silence on embarkation. An odd start that was indicative of the lack of any cheerful communication throughout the trip.
Unfortunately there was a significant incident with one of the group on day 2 when somebody was temporarily missing from the boat after a 'dive'. We appreciate that these things can happen due to miscommunication/language issues but it was dealt with so unprofessionally both during and afterwards that it was quite shocking.
Before the lady was located, Ralf was swearing and seemed to totally panic. Once she was found (having been picked up by another boat) there was an almighty argument between him and his guests as to whether she had followed the correct safety procedure. Nerves needed to be calmed throughout the boat by this stage as everybody had felt the effects of the screaming row and the incident itself. This didn't happen. Ralf never addressed the situation for the following 24 awkward hours on the boat. He continued to complain about the incident/ his guests to the fellow Germans on the boat right up until we disembarked from our hotel transfer. Yes I can understand some German.
Sadly, not a good ambassador for his company.

I spend 3 nights on this snorkeling trip. I didn't have many snorkeling experiences before, but the staff was super helpful and they made me feel safe in the water. Many dives in a Day so you really see a lot! Very good thai food and super cold beer, the crew on the boat really made me feel like home. Rooms are clean and comfortable, and the boat is beautiful! Loved the Reggae vibe. Perfect combination of snorkeling and relaxing. Definitely the highlight of my trip in Asia.

I have just returned from the South Burma trip with Andaman Snorkel Discovery. I had been to Surin Islands with them three years ago already and there was no question that I would be coming back one day. And like last time, this trip was perfect! The crew made us feel very welcome from the first minute: Eike and Sai took care of all the paperwork before we could start the trip, and Ralf and the crew made our days in Burma extra special!
We discovered a few nice new snorkeling spots together and explored the well-known ones, too. My personal highlight was the „lagoon“ at Emerald Heart which we had all to ourselves thanks to the crew‘s knowledge of how to avoid the crowds from the speedboats. Wonderful coral fields, fish... everything is bigger in Burma! :)
The Reggae Queen is a great place to spend a good time with nice people and good food! A special shoutout also to La Mae, the chef, who provided the energy needed between dives thanks to her delicious cooking. :)
All in all I can’t recommend Andaman Snorkel Discovery enough! If you plan to spend some time in the Surat Thani area, make sure to check them out and try to go on a trip with them.
I definitely will be back! :)

Ralph and the whole crew were amazing. Beautiful snorkeling locations, great food, relaxing evening and just great fun. Can't wait to go back!

This was the best snorkeling we've had for over 20 years...Ralph took us to some amazing places with plentiful fish and healthy corals of all sizes, shapes and a variety of colours. The snorkeling opportunities we're amazing...4 and even 5 dives in one day. The Thai food was plentiful and delicious. Smoking was an issue at first but Ralph kindly stopped smoking in the dining room once asked. The beds are extremely hard by our standards.
Eike was great in organizing our transfers.
This was a fabulous tour...highly recommended.

My family and me went for the four days boat trip. This was a perfect break from the touristy resorts. The boat really has that boat atmosphere and is nice and cozy without any luxury - but with perfect service. The crew and the guides made sure that the trip was perfect and the captain Ralf and the guide Johanna made the trip worth to try again!

Tours specifically for snorkeling are rare so we were excited to find this opportunity and it far exceeded our expectations. The snorkeling was fantastic with many fish varieties and sizes, loads of corals, and a never ending series if reefs and rocks to explore.
Pick up was at our hotel and the van was early. We were taken to the boat and it is clean, well organized and cheerful.
The crew was great, our Super Guide Johanna and the owner Ralf made us feel like part of the family. The boat crew was so pleasant and the cook was amazing. We were lucky to have other guests on board who were very easy to get along with. I think snorkelers in general are a great bunch.
Ralf's special skill is to take us to great reef locations while missing the other tourists. We often felt like we were the only people there. He also calibrated our trip according to weather to maximize our viewing of the fish and corals. We saw reef sharks, moray eels, seahorse, giant puffer fish and many, many other varieties. We also spent time on a few lovely beaches.
This was a very special time for my husband and me. We hope to come back to take the Burma trip. Highly recommend this for people who love the water.

I've heard that the cabins on this boat are not air conditioned. Is this true, and if so, how much would this impact in December? I never run air conditioning but just slightly concerned about being stuck in small quarters in Thailand heat.. Any advice will be appreciated!

not sure where you have heard that but it is not true. The cabins do have air condition plus a fan, in case you don't need the air con.
