We booked a Safari vehicle and a driver/guide withGladiola and had an amazing experience!
Dixon the driver is the best at spotting wildlife and positioning the car for close encounters, and was always providing insights and good conversation!
We booked lodges ourselves and in hind sight could have used Gladiola’s help to better select those.

Many companies will only offer a full-package Safari, but if you do a little bit of homework the driver+car deal with Gladiola allows you more flexibility and your choice of accommodation. We don’t recommend self-driving unless you have a lot of Africa driving experience and you know the local customs and enough of the language. Safari guides exchange information regularly on game location, and you will miss it without a local guide.

Great safari experience with Gladiola. Before arriving in Arusha we exchanged several emails with Didas who was very helpful on answering all our questions and assisting on designing our safari itinerary. We finally decided to do self driving for Tarangire and Manyara and hire a guide/driver for Ngorongoro (mandatory for the crater), Serengeti and Natron which at the end we really appreciated as driving in Northen Serengeti and Natron is quite challenging due to the bad condition of the roads and the lack of directions. When we arrived to Arusha we met with a member of the Gladiola team to pick up the car and book and pay for the entrance to the different parks. The Land Cruiser we got was old and lacked AC/stereo but strong and robust for the tough roads. It included pop-up roof for game viewing and a fridge. We had a couple of problems with the car at the beginning of the trip but Didas and the team did everything possible to fix them. After that everything worked fine for the rest of the trip. Our driver Stanley was very knowledgeable of the animals (especially birds!) and the different areas of the parks. He provided us with a great service. Overall it was a great value experience when comparing to other companies that offer closed packages and with the freedom of being able to choose your own itinerary and either self-drive or hire a guide/driver.

We rented a Rav4 for self-drive for 10 days in February. Didas was great before, during and after answering my MANY questions. The car itself had a lot of mileage (200,000 km), but worked fine! There was free delivery of the car to our hotel in Arusha, we then left it at our hotel near the airport (for a fee). Our security deposit was refunded right away when the car was returned. During the time that we had the car we drove to Lake Manyara, Arusha park, Lake Diluti, coffee plantations near Moshi etc. We had planned to go to Lake Eyasi, but the roads were too difficult for us. In retrospect, it would have been better had we hired a driver/guide for at least half the time (for Lake Eyasi and Lake Manyara), and then done the other part on our own. We rented the car in early February, after it had been raining a lot, and some of the roads were flooded and difficult for us. Having an experienced driver on hand would have allowed us to enjoy the trip more. However we strongly recommend the company.

I had an amazing trip to Tansania thanks to Gladiola Adventure, the manager Didas and our driver Dixon. The company is extremly operative. Considering pandemic sitution and sudden limited boarder opening I have to make decission regarding Tanazania visit just one week ahead of my arrivel. Just amagine how limited this timeframe to arrange 9 days safary and 3 days Zanzibar experience. I spent like 4 days trying to find a vehicle with driver dealing with some companies but stuck with long wainting for responces, when I decided to skip and consider other options. Gladiola had competetive price and small discout but what was more important they turned out to be extremly communicative. I sent a request after 10 pm and around 2 am next day I had a preliminary positive feedback. We continued email exchange at 7 am. And during the day, after we switched to Whatsapp, I had vehicle (exactly what I need), driver and all my route set. Thay was fantastic job! Also I'd like to point out the great level of flexibility when we have to sort out issues. Didas was ready to suggest and support different approaches to resolve issues instead of stuck with problems. Everything was perfectly arranged when I arrived to Arusha. I were lucky enough to have Dixon on board as our driver and guide. He is just exceptional driver considering road conditions. I had had an exciting self drive exprience in Namibia but for Tanzania my personal judgment is "no way, just forget about it". Dixon is a perfect driver and intelegent person, he also has his own keen to wildlife and game watch and this helped a lot to watch 4 out of Big 5 (rihnos are quite rare). We managed to watch several prides of lions, cheetahs, leos, herds of elefants, buffalos, zebras and numerous other animals. Thanks again for fantastic journey!

We visited Tanzania in february for a month with our family with 2 children of 1 and 4 years old. We rented a Landcruiser with driver for a 11 day safari to Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti and Lake Natron. After that we did a self drive from Arusha to Dar es Salaam in a Rav4. The cars were brought to the airport and our accommodation. They are not the newest but they are reliable and carefully looked after.

The contact with Didas (and the other staff) was excellent. He responded very quickly on all our questions and was always available. Moreover he gave us useful suggestions for accommodation and the planning of our trip and he arranged 2 children seats free of charge.

Special thanks to Dixon who was not only our driver, but also a great guide and great person.

If you want to be flexible and plan your own trip in Tanzania we strongly recommend Gladiola adventures!

I visited Tanzania in March at 2019 for a biz trip, spent 4 days three nights in the Safari using Gladiola Adventure service which exceeded our expectations entirely.

It was an incredible experience with my colleague. The 4 day itinerary was perfect, and glad we got to spend 2 days in the Serengeti (our favourite of the 4 parks). We didn't feel rushed at all, or pressured to see animals.

Our driver was fantastic. He drove safely and was knowledgeable, and passionate about his job. He was patient and great with the kids. Also the vehicle was in great condition (better than almost all others we saw) which helped make it comfortable.

Our chef cooked wonderful food with different kind of cuisines including some local food style.

The lodges were ok, i had some unique experiences, but Didas promised they would not corporate with the lodges i stayed any more.

The owner of Gladiola was really friendly and helpful. I was really scared during my stay in the campsite in the middle of Serengeti, he switched my next day to a lodge site with good facilities immediately which added up more cost and effort for them.

The price and the package they offered i can guarantee is the best after comparing with many others. It won't go wrong choosing them.

We have rented safari vehicles in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Kenya, and this was by far our best experience to date. Incredible service, solid vehicle, great value.

Didas was the mastermind helping us organize our trip from start to finish. He was always responsive, always easy to reach. He helped us with our flights, getting our PCR tests, and he found amazing places for us to stay, exactly where all the game was, and at a level above anything we could find ourselves on the internet. He also secured us pricing for accommodations much closer to what locals pay, which is a huge savings in African travel. Thanks to him we were able to enjoy true luxury accommodations for the price of a hotel in the US.

Melkiory and Lucas were very attentive about organizing our permits and entrance fees, and everyone was immediately contactable from the road with any query. And we even ran into one of the Gladiola guides George while we were on the road and he was quick to offer his advice and insights to our chosen routes, even though we were not even his clients.

The vehicle was very reliable and a pleasure to drive, with luxuries like a fridge, inverter, and double game viewing hatches.

We cannot say enough good things about this company. Our only word of caution would be whether or not to use a guide. While the pictures may make it seem like it is easy to drive around the Serengeti and Lake Natron areas, they really should not be attempted on your own without a good foundation in 4x4. A road that is perfectly passable one day can become deep mud ruts the next, and the areas are truly remote. Out on the Namiri plains and in the heart of Loliondo, we did not see any other cars while driving. Not one. And there are no road signs anywhere, so you need a good sense of navigation. If you are missing any of these, we recommend you hire a driver to be safe.

Having said that, if you know what you are doing, can follow GPS coordinates and know how to work your way around the maps.me app, then download your maps of Tanzania and get on the road!

If you choose Gladiola, you won't regret it. They are simply the best.

I approached Gladiola at midnight of the day before I needed to hire a car, because another company let me down. I received an initial response after midnight, and confirmed a vehicle hire before 9am the following morning.

The company representative was at the agreed point for both pick up and drop off, dead on time. He was 2friendly, helpful and professional. The vehicle was in good condition, and I had no mechanical issues whatsoever.

I would strongly recommend Gladiola to others looking for a reasonably priced ($90/ day for unlimited km, plus $20 each for airport drop off and pick up) 5 door RAV4 with a retractable roof panel.

We had so nice experience with Gladiola Adventure for our Tanzania 8days safaris car rental. We were advised by Didas to have one experienced driver guide with us and we drove the rest of the cars ourselves. We thought we could manage it without the help of the driver but we thank Didas for his advice. Ignas our driver guide was very helpful since day one. He has helped us as from shopping to the parks in the campsites.

We learnt that for a big group and if you are not familiar with off roads and wild life it is very important to hire the driver guide.

We had few challenges and with the help of the driver guide Ignas things were easier.

We also advise other travellers to have all the fees paid in Arusha at the bank before leaving the Gladiola office in Arusha.

You can ask Gladiola to book everything including accommodations and pay all the fees and on your arrival you just pick the cars and go.

If you go camping we recommend you ask the company to help you get food and cook for you. This will leave you with one task only which is tour.

I hundred percent recommend the Gladiola Adventure for your Tanzania safaris, car rental and Kilimanjaro climb/trekking

Thanks Didas, Thanks Ignas and Melkiory and the whole team for this memorable Tanzania experience!

From bush to beach with the Rav4, we had a great time during our selfdrive roadtrip through Tanzania! From the very first contact with Gladiola up to handing back the car at the end of the trip Gladiola (in the person of Didas) always responded very quick and without any issues. It was a bit of a leap of faith to pay for the car ahead of our arrival to Tanzania, but based on the positive reviews and the smooth communication we took the risk. Car was delivered and picked up on time and without any hassle. Our car wasn't the youngest but this is also reflected in the rates. The Rav4 is a permanent 4x4, strong and ok for the Tanzanian roads. If you are not sure what you need for the National Parks I would recommend to invest the extra money and request a Landcruiser, the clearance is higher so you can spot more game and it allows you to follow the tracks of the safari vehicles in the NPs as they can make deep traces. For those who, like us, want to travel independently Google Maps or Maps.me are good tools as for both you can download maps and use offline. For the NPs we found the Tracks4Africa website very usefull, to use offline you need to download a paid app. Enjoy your selfdrive and thanks for the help Didas!
