My family and I contacted Access 2 Tanzania after a family member recommended them to us. We were planning on travelling mid-December and began discussing our trip with Casey in September. We didn’t finalize our itinerary and book our trip until mid-October. During this time, Casey was extremely helpful to us, answering all our questions and accommodating our changing requests. And doing all of this in a timely manner, the longest I ever had to wait for a reply from Casey was probably 2 days. Overall, the planning and administrative process of our trip was very easy and it’s clear that the Access 2 Tanzania team has perfected what they do.
Now to the trip… Our itinerary was as follows: Arusha (1 day), Tarangire (1 day), Lake Manyara (1 day), Ngorongoro Crater (1 day), Serengeti (4 days; flew back to Arusha on the 4th day). The safari itself was everything we could have hoped for. Beautiful landscapes and animals everywhere! We saw plenty of zebras, elephants, giraffes, hippos, wildebeest, impala, buffalo, baboons, monkeys and much more. We were also lucky enough to see some big cats as well: lions, cheetahs and leopards. All our accommodations were wonderful; clean rooms, gracious staff, delicious food and breathtaking views.
I feel like our trip was bound to be amazing but our guide Danny made it truly unforgettable. Danny was highly recommended to us by our family member and during our trip I kept thinking, “thank goodness we took their advice.” He was always cracking jokes and having fun. He was extremely knowledgeable; he would name any animal (even the tiniest birds) that we came across and share interesting facts about them. He would always park in the right spot for us to get the perfect view or picture of the animals. And he is an amazing driver! When we were in the Serengeti, the pathways were extremely muddy, due to the rain, and while other jeeps were struggling to get through the mud (some even got stuck), Danny would easily drive through. As for the jeeps that did get stuck in the mud, Danny was always the first to offer to help them. That’s just one example of Danny’s helpful and caring nature. Early on in our trip, my dad mentioned he wasn’t feeling well. My dad said it wasn’t it a big deal but Danny insisted that he take him to the hospital nearby (luckily nothing was wrong). We were very sad to leave Danny by the end of our trip but hopefully we will get to see him again soon!
Long story short, Access 2 Tanzania was an amazing company to deal with from beginning to end. We would definitely recommend them and Danny!

Where to start? From the amount of effort it took to set up this whole trip for six adults in different locations to in the end pulling an itinerary together that was ideal. For all of that we must commend Casey in MN and thank him a million times over.
Next we have to recognize that the person who deserves a GOLD star is Maningo, our trusty safari guide extraordinaire. Maningo was able to navigate 6 strong personalities day in and day out and always with a smile. From the smallest detail to showing us all the splendor and animals of Tanzania. He never skipped a beat. For that we are extremely grateful. It was because of his love for his country and all that makes it special that we had a trip of a lifetime.
The accommodations were all fantastic and we saw more animals that we ever had seen in our previous 8 safaris. A big WOW!
We would recommend Access2Tanzania to all people wanting a trip of a lifetime but doing it without spending a fortune. That means you can go again and again which we plan to do!
Tip- pay attention to the weather and consider that all your game drives are in a van(very comfy) so early morning temps are not as cold as you might expect. Laundry can be done at all the places so pack less. American dollars are king and bring more than necessary.

Access2Tanzania helped us have a dream vacation. The highlights of our experience (other than the pangolin, baby cheetahs, roaring lion etcetera) were the professional and personable service of our guide Fulgence Kenedy and our planner Casey O'Connell. Casey spent hours with us through emails, research, and a conference call to understand our priorities and educate us about opportunities. He helped us schedule hikes and runs, select perfect cultural opportunities for our teen and preteen kids, and gave great advice about the pros and cons of a Serengeti hot air balloon ride (we opted out and were glad we did). Fulgence met us at the Kilimanjaro airport and made us feel welcome right from the start, stopping to purchase big bottles of water at a roadside store when we did not have shillings to get our own. The next morning, Fulgence accompanied three of us on a 10K run near Usa before he headed west to meet us for our safari. Their colleagues Haji and Alex did a great job guiding us to the foothills of Kilimanjaro for a hike and delicious meal served by a wonderful Chagga family; Alex also drove us to the airport for our flight to Seronera the next morning. For the next eight days, Fulgence was our near-constant companion, teaching us an immense (but not excessive) amount of information about the animals, landscape, and culture we were amazed by. He paid attention to what kind of drinks we each liked to keep the cooler full, and keenly spotted animals including fluffy baby cheetahs, multiple leopards in trees, a leopard family, a mother cheetah teaching her son to successfully hunt a gazelle, several prides of lions, many species of birds, and even a pangolin! Fulgence was especially skilled at positioning us safely but closely to families of elephants as they ate and slowly walked right by our vehicle. He coached us in ways to enjoy our time visiting a Maasai boma, and hiked with us in the Empakaai crater.
When it was time to say goodbye to Fulgence, we flew to Zanzibar and the transportation and COVID-19 testing Casey had arranged to facilitate our reentry to the USA went flawlessly. The lodging choices were well suited to our family and were very comfortable. The advice and videos about tipping, local customs, preparations, and planning were immensely helpful.
On the whole, we felt that everyone at Access2Tanzania treated us like their own family and we highly recommend their agency.

It all started with Casey who worked tirelessly to create an itinerary for 6 friends on a 10-day safari to celebrate some milestone birthdays. Casey was patient, listened to our wants/needs, and created a perfect itinerary for us. The accommodations selected were spot on, the food delicious (each place even catered to the lone vegetarian in the group), the wildlife and scenery was spectacular. But best of all was our guide, Alex. Alex was patient, funny, and kind. And could he spot the animals for us! It was an incredible trip, thanks to Alex and Access2Tanzania. I do not hesitate to recommend them.

It was a phenomenal experience to be totally immersed in the nature, beauty, animals and culture of Tanzania and all the while feel very safe and comfortable. We were a family of four, husband, wife, 2 grown children (29 and 34). Would probably not take children under 12 on a safari. From the moment we were picked up at Kilimanjaro Airport, our amazing guide Wily Philemon made us welcome in his country and continuously showed us or taught us about the remarkable people, animals and landscapes of Tanzania. The company, Access2Tanzania is very professional and had us extremely well prepared. Their website has an excellent breadth of information and the staff quickly responded to any other questions we had in preparation. Our safari vehicle was well equipped. Each of the lodges we stayed at had excellent food and very clean and safe lodging. We not only traveled among the animals but had stops to meet with a Masai tribe, stopped and saw a tribal woodworker and explored the Olduvai Gorge. The animals were, of course the major draw of this adventure and we saw more animals than we could dream of. I particularly appreciate that a percentage of the cost goes to the schools and children of Tanzania. I also like that the company employs its own guides. Our guide, Willy was a phenomenal guide and became a great friend. The company Access2Tanzania is an excellent organization that created a wonderful and safe trip for my family. Would do again in a heartbeat.

We used A2T to plan our honeymoon safari in Tanzania early Jan 2023 and are so glad we used this company! We are already looking forward to using them again in the future.
Our guide, Wilfred, was absolutely outstanding and easily made our trip. His peaceful and friendly demeanor was easy to get along with, which is important when you consider the fact that you will be with your guide for very long days while on game drives! He was always accommodating to our wishes but also provided guidance about the timing of our days when needed. For example, enter Ngorongoro Crater early in the day and finish by early afternoon to avoid crowds or go to certain parts of the Serengeti to search for the big cats and the black rhino, which were our favorite. He is clearly an expert in understanding the habits of these animals. For example, when we wanted to rush away from a leopard sleeping in a tree to see what we could view next, he would remind us “pole pole” (“slowly slowly” in Swahili), as he could tell the leopard was about to wake up. Sure enough, the leopard soon awoke and we were able to witness it eating a gazelle. We are lucky to have had Wilfred as a guide and now a friend for life.
The planning process with Casey was also very easy and enjoyable. Spending so much money and flying across the world on a big trip can be scary but planning with Casey/A2T took away any fears. He was very responsive via email and text and is very good at his job. His understanding of the area is spot on. He even helped to make a same-day change to our final hotel while we were ON our trip due to an oversight on our end. Having someone that we could count on to arrange safe and beautiful lodges and transfers made our honeymoon stress-free.
Finally, we highly recommend A2T as they have a genuine interest in helping Tanzania and it’s citizens progress. Part of your safari fee goes towards their project to teach English to local Tanzanians. They also arrange a part of the safari to tour local tribes, which helps you understand Tanzania rather than just having a canned tourist experience. There is also no limit to the miles your guide can drive you in a day, which is HUGE. We saw most safari vehicles stay in the same small radius around camps, meanwhile, we could drive 2-3 hours from camp and get away from any crowds.

We had a fantastic experience on our safari booked with this company. From the time we started planning to the execution of the trip, they were excellent. Karen and her staff in North America were super helpful in our planning stages. They were willing to accommodate our numerous comments, requests and thoughts as we were fine-tuning our itinerary, and they were super helpful as we were preparing to leave on our trip. Once we arrived in Tanzania, we could not have anticipated what a fantastic guide we would have in Willy. He was knowledgable, funny, extremely competent, and obviously respected by all the other guides. They put together a great itinerary in perfect locations, with the best guide in Tanzania, as far as we are concerned. This was our third safari trip in Africa (Tanzania and Zambia) and Willy was the absolute best guide we have ever had, bar none.

A2T did it again. Our first safari with A2T was in 2019. However, CoVid intervened and we were forced to postpone our return trip until this year. Whereas we visited several different parks on our exciting earlier trip, we limited this experience to the Serengeti. Again, we trusted A2T to provide a custom adventure for us (2 grandparents and 2 teenagers) designed by Casey, our consultant for A2T, and executed by Noel, our excellent guide. From the initial conference with Casey through the planning stage to framing the final itinerary, he listened to our ideas and was responsive to our requests. He created an itinerary that included a variety of accommodations which provided many different Serengeti experiences. To make the safari perfect, we had our incredible guide Noel again. He is an expert at locating animals doing the most thrilling things. We watched breathlessly as a trio of cheetahs chased a group of Thompson’s Gazelles. He not only identifies the animals, but also provides fascinating details about them. Even animals merely displaying typical behaviors such as white-backed vultures feasting on a wildebeest carcass is compelling with Noel’s description. He is also a superb driver who shows great respect for the animals as well as for his passengers. In spite of 10-hour days, he navigated the teenagers with grace and wisdom. He is a very kind and generous person who sincerely loves his job and adores people.. A2T is very fortunate to have him as a guide. We are already talking about taking our 2 younger granddaughters with us on safari with A2T next year (with Noel!).

Access2Tanzania deserves 6 stars! The set up and service on this trip exceeded my high expectations. This is a company with operations in the US and Tanzania. That makes communications and payments easy. The company employs full-time guides and manages a charity. Our guide, Alex, was exceptional, from meeting us at the airport, to driving us around Arusha (even helping me find tanzanite earrings), to his expertise in Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. He listened and delivered! The animal sightings were unbelievable (70 lions, 10 cheetahs, including one with a kill. Even The Great Migration!). Our vehicle was often first on the scene. Alex answered every question about the animals and the country. He was funny, patient and a safe driver. The vehicle was clean and in good shape, with a charger, binoculars, bean bags, seat pads, a pop up roof, and cold drinks.
In the US, Casey managed our schedule in amazing detail. He was on top of all Covid protocols and even arranged for our pre-departure testing. Casey worked with us to create a perfect itinerary and offered suggestions for lodges and a camp that turned out to be incredible. Most importantly, when there was a hiccup in our flight schedule from the Serengeti, not at all the fault of A2T, Casey went above and beyond to make up for our trouble. Casey also seamlessly arranged our trip in Zanzibar, including the most memorable hotel stay of our lives.
Access2Tanzania deserves all the accolades I can provide.

In July 2023, our family of 5 checked off the number one trip on our bucket list, taking a 7 day Safari in Tanzania, a trip that was made possible by Access2Tanzania and one that surpassed our wildest dreams.
While planning the trip with their US based liaison, Casey O’Connell, our itinerary went through several changes as we altered schedules, locations and activities. We found Casey very knowledgeable and patient as we scheduled and rescheduled our trip through COVID.
What truly made our experience with Access2Tanzania a 5 star trip was our interaction with our Tanzanian Safari Guide, Joachim. We joked that he was more of our Safari Genie than he was a Guide as every single request we made of him over the course of the week, he was able to grant. Upon arriving in Arusha, he asked each member of our party what animals we were hoping to see and he seemed to know exactly where to go in each park to find each one. After we had seen every animal on our initial wish list after the third day, we gave him new challenges, asking to see Lion Cubs, Baby Cheetahs, Baby Elephants and even baby Hyenas. He made this his personal goal and by the end of our 7 days, he made sure we saw every one we could think of.
We appreciated not only Joachim’s professionalism but his treatment of the camp workers as well as his relationship with other Safari guides. You could tell he was very well respected among his peers as they were always radioing him to ask him where they could find elusive animals that we had already seen that day.
Joachim always kept our vehicle stocked with waters, sodas and snacks and truly became a member of our family as the week went on engaging with us not only to teach us about the animals we were seeing and about Tanzanian history but joining us in playing games on long drives between parks and at camp at night. One of family’s favorite memories of our trip was teaching Joachim to play poker at one of our tent camps while wild animals roamed just a few hundred feet away.
While I would recommend our experience with Access2Tanzania as a whole and know there were many people involved in making our trip so memorable, Joachim’s knowledge, personality and relentless desire to give us the best vacation possible is what we will be forever grateful for in this truly once in a lifetime vacation.

Hi, Do you do fly in and out safari's ( no driving)?
Written January 4, 2020
Yes, we do, though it is less common. There are some reasons why some driving is usually recommended. But every situation is different and when it makes sense, we can easily make a fly in and fly out itinerary.
Written January 5, 2020
Hi!
Do you allow single travelers to join a small group safari? If so, is there a single supplement fee?
Thank you!
Written April 27, 2019
Hello Caitlin and thank you for the question. Unfortunately, right now we only do customized trips, thus no group trips.
Written April 28, 2019
Hi, love to do a safari with you. My friend and I want to combine it with a 3 day trip to Rwanda doing gorilla trek. Do you do that too?
Written September 24, 2018
Yes, thank you Phillie_g for answering, you are exactly correct. We also operate Treks 2 Rwanda. We expanded to Rwanda about 4 years ago and have our own operation there. It's a wonderful country and it's relatively easy to combine Tanzania and Rwanda.
Written September 25, 2018
Hi, do you also do combination tours to Kenya? Or do you work with another tour company there? Thanks so much!
Written September 9, 2017
Thank you for the question. We do combination tours with Kenya. We have a reliable partner we've worked with there for more than a decade.

What are the best places to see Wildlife (elephants and giraffes are of particular interest) in Tanzania and when is the best time to go (when it isn't hot or rainy)
Written August 15, 2017
We were there at the end of June and saw elephants and giraffes in Tarangire and the Serengeti. There were elephants at Ngorongoro Crater but not giraffes. However, if you want to see black rhinos, Ngorongoro is the only place.
The seasons in Tanzania are different from what we experience in the US. They have two seasons, wet and dry. Usually, the wet season is from November to May but can vary a little. Surprisingly, there is no hot weather as the temperature is the same year round with highs in the 70's and lower 80's depending on elevation. We selected late June for our trip to miss the rains and it worked perfectly. August is the European holiday season and I understand things can be a bit crowded then.
I'd recommend June, July, September or October as travel dates but the wildebeest calving season in the Serengeti in January and February also is popular. The unpaved roads could be an issue in the wet season, however, but all of the touring companies use 4-wheel drive vehicles.
Written August 16, 2017
I'd be interested to know what people paid for their trips.
Written January 10, 2017
Great question but difficult to answer because so much depends on your choices. My wife & I chose A2T after looking at a number of companies. Their pricing was very competitive and their service was superb. We made our trip in February - 2 weeks on safari on the northern circuit and a week on Zanzibar. The best way to answer your question is to look at costs .... fixed costs will be the guide, vehicle and park fees, More parks, more fees. Variable is lodging and personal spending. You control the variable costs during your planning ... where to stay drives much of the cost & depends entirely on your needs and preferences. Frankly, the animals don't care where you sleep so it's really up to you. We gave Casey a budget and he worked with us to meet it, and we really, really enjoyed the places we stayed. Trust Casey, give him your numbers, and let him work his magic.
Written April 25, 2016
Did you stay in tented bush camps and how was Zanzibar?
Written December 5, 2016
I understand there are numerous variables that go into planning and pricing a trip like this, but can anyone give me an idea of price per day?
Written November 4, 2015
We gave A2T our total land-based budget for 6 people and, after asking us about our preferences for accomodations (such as a swimming pool for our children), duration of the trip, and activities, they sent an itinerary for that budget. Couldn't have been more pleased with doing it that way! Our land-based budget included the majority of our meals, our accomodations, in-country transportation and flights, guide, and vehicle. We paid separately for our international flights, visas, and tips.
