We cannot rate Hasantha & Nirmal more highly. If we could give you 10 stars it still wouldn’t be enough! All emails were diligently answered by Hasantha, we transferred the deposit on line and paid cash for the remainder upon arrival. We designed our own itinerary and for 1 month Nirmal drove us from Negombo, Colombo, Anuradhapura, Sigiriya, back to Colombo-where we caught the train to Kandy, then Ella, then drove on to Udawalawele, Yala, Dickwella, Mirissa, Weligama, Galle, Unawatuna and back to Colombo and the airport. Nirmal is a very safe & cautious driver, he took us to all the sights in each location, he was good humoured, helpful & a wealth of information. He speaks very good English and would often recommend places to eat or to see. He also saved us lots of $$ by organising cheaper safaris for us. We also felt very safe with Nirmal around. We would never have had the amazing experience we had without Nirmal and Sri Lanka Driver Tours. We travel a lot and can’t recommend them more highly. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts. We will never forget you or Sri Lanka!

We have just finished a two week tour of Sri Lanka with SLD and would highly recommend them. From the offset, communication was clear and prompt. Hasantha kindly made suggestions for our itinerary and we paid a deposit via bank transfer to confirm our booking.
We landed into Sri Lanka at 01:55 and were kindly picked up by Hasantha and driven to our hotel in Negombo. We paid half of the fee and would pay the second half on completion of the trip. The next day we were picked up by our driver, Nirmal, and began our adventure.
Throughout our trip, Nirmal was warm and friendly. He was happy to answer our questions and point out landmarks during long car journeys. He made us feel safe at all times during his navigation of the often difficult Sri Lankan roads and traffic. He made good suggestions for gaps to fill in our itinerary, but we never felt pressured if it was something that we didn’t fancy. He was able to arrange multiple excursions for us, such as safari and the iconic open-top train ride through the jungle which was one of our highlights.
We had an excellent, stress-free trip thanks to Nirmal, and wouldn’t hesitate to travel with him again!

My partner and I hired SL Driver Tours for a 9 day itinerary and a transfer to the airport some days later. We have been fortunate to travel to several countries and we usually rent our own vehicle and self drive. I recommend hiring a driver to tour Sri Lanka, and I highly recommend going with SL Driver Tours.
Short version: they are professional, safe, reliable, and it is a good value.
We came up with our own general itinerary and arranged the reservation with the owner Hasantha a couple months before the trip. We did this communication through email with Hasantha, and he was prompt and easy to work with. We secured the reservation with a reasonable deposit made with an international wire transfer.
Once in Sri Lanka we switched over to WhatsApp for communication. We met Hasantha at a hotel in Negombo at the start of the trip at a prearranged time and submitted a 50% payment, and met our driver Nirmal. Nirmal was a perfect tour guide. We always felt safe in his comfortable car and it was great visiting Sri Lanka with the help of a knowledgeable and friendly tour guide. He had many great suggestions of activities and sites to see during our 9 days.
Nirmal and SL Driver Tours have relationships with many tour operators who also provided an excellent service. For example, we went on game drives in three different parks and each time Nirmal had pre-arranged a driver and vehicle who were waiting for us when we arrived. They were always reasonably priced excellent picks.
We ended our 9 day tour with Nirmal in Mirissa, and stayed there for a few days. We also arranged SL Driver Tours to take us to CMB international airport late at night for our flight home. The driver arrived at our hotel at our arranged time, and we had a comfortable stress free ride to CMB. At CMB we paid for the remaining balance of our 9 day tour and the transfer to CMB.
This is a top notch operation and SL Driver Tours were a big part of making this one of the most enjoyable and memorable trips we have been on.

This was our 1. Travel to Sri Lanka. Not the last, thanks to our companion Janaka from SL Driver Tours!
Originally we wanted to drive ourselves. By chance we came across SL Driver Tours. Luckily. You can see so much more if you don’t drive yourself and get information that is not in any guidebook.
Hasantha from SL Driver Tours advised us competently, put a finishing touch to our already planned itinerary and made us a good offer with driver, vehicle incl. all associated incidentals. That convinced us.
We were on the road from 27 October to 15 November. The last 5 days on a beautiful beach east of Tangalle.
The morning after our arrival in Bandaraneike we met Hasantha and our driver Janaka at our hotel. The journey could begin.
Janaka was now 14 days our driver, guide, companion, ...
He told us a lot about our goals, about the country, the lives of people, religions, traditions, ... We have learned many things that there is nothing to read about.
My initial scepticism (about a driver who is close with us for 14 days and maybe wants to drag us somewhere etc.) quickly disappeared.
Janaka was always in a good mood, told us a lot, accompanied us on hikes, gave tips and was always on hand when we needed him. He didn't drag us anywhere to have to shop and took back discreetly, which we appreciated very much.

We had a fantastic 2 week tour of Sri Lanka with SLD, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
Before travel, the communication from Hasantha was excellent. We planned our own itinerary, and Hasantha quoted us a competitive price accordingly. We paid a deposit by transfer. On arrival, Hasantha met us at the airport, and we paid half of the balance in cash.
The next day, we were met by Nirmal, who would be our driver for the remainder of our trip. During our trip, we visited Negombo, Sigiriya, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Udawalawe, Tissamaharama, Mirissa, Hikkaduwa, and Bentota.
Nirmal was very personable and friendly. He was chatty when we asked questions, but we also had plenty of peace and quiet at other times. His driving felt very safe on the sometimes crazy roads. He had some very early starts to get us to where we needed to be and didn't complain. He was adaptive to our needs. He took us to good spots for lunch, and recommended good places to eat at night. Where we had spare time or gaps in our itinerary, he made some suggestions for additional stops. We were especially interested in birdwatching, and he made sure this was prioritised on our safari trips. We never felt pressurised to stop anywhere we didn't want to. He also advised us on tourist traps to avoid. His English wasn't perfect, but we were still able to have a good chat.
Overall, Nirmal made the big journey remarkably stress free... we were able to relax and enjoy the beautiful country of Sri Lanka.

We have just returned from an absolutely fantastic three week family adventure in Sri Lanka.
SLDT and our excellent guide Thushara were recommended by a friend who had been in Sri Lanka in January, always re-assuring to have a personal recommendation!
Although we had planned our route independently, Hasantha was extraordinarily quick with all his helpful and insightful email responses which helped put the finishing touches to our itinerary.
Administratively, we paid a 10% deposit when booking and Hasantha met us at the airport on arrival and we paid 50% of the remaining balance as a bank transfer (with the remainder transferred just prior to our departure).
He then introduced us to wonderful Thushara, helped pack the van and we were off, first stop Nilavelli.
A word for those who have never been to Sri Lanka - while there do seem to be a few motorways peppered around parts of the country, much of the travel is on two lane roads with a mix of vans, crazy buses, trucks, tuk tuks, bikes, street dogs and occasional elephants jockeying for position - speeds can be low and progress may sometimes seem a bit slow... but we loved it - a leisurely pace watching Sri Lanka reveal her beauty as we travelled.
Thushara was an excellent driver. He was safe, relaxed, knew all our plans and had obviously planned routes a day in advance and always added in additional interesting stops along the way.
Sometimes, he randomly stopped at the side of the road and generously bought fruit and local snacks for us to enjoy on our travels - one day he greeted us in the morning with homemade delicious "kokis" which his wife had made for us.
One of the family celebrated a birthday during our travels and that morning, we opened the van door to reveal that Thushara had decorated it with balloons and birthday bunting - a wonderful surprise.
We asked him to join us a couple of nights for dinner and we all enjoyed our time together - we could not have asked for a better guide and local expert for our travels.
" stūtiyi" for making our time with you in Sri Lanka one of the most memorable family holidays we have ever enjoyed. Sending all our best wishes and we hope we will see you again!

Three friends and I spent the last 14 days touring Sri Lanka with our friendly and helpful SL Driver Tours driver, Jude, and we had a wonderful time.
The whole experience with SL Driver Tours has been outstanding right from our first email enquiry. We accepted the quote, paid a deposit in advance and then paid 50% of the remaining balance to the driver upon pickup and the other 50% at the end. All went smoothly. The company emailed a photo receipt when requested.
Jude was prompt, reliable and a very cautious and safe driver. He has so many friends that he bumped into along the way! He made good recommendations for us for atms, money exchange, wholesale water sellers, good food places and was happy to accommodate any changes we requested. He helped our friend get emergency medical attention including accompanying them into the hospital and finding where to go. He made our trip so safe and easy!! Thank you Jude.
We 100% recommend SL Driver Tours for anyone considering this type of travel. We will use them again when we return!

We have just completed a very enjoyable 11-day trip in Sri Lanka, travelling from Negombo to the Cultural Triangle, and then on to Ella, Udawalawe National Park area, and finally Galle Fort. We arranged the trip at relatively short notice (3 weeks), making our own flight and accommodation bookings. We then asked Sri Lanka Driver Tours if they could provide a driver. Hasantha responded immediately, and was thereafter prompt in all our communications, also making helpful suggestions. Given the short notice, we much appreciated the quick turnaround of email communications.
Nirmal was our driver, and we warmly recommend him to other travellers. Crucially, he is a skilled and careful driver, paying utmost attention to safety. He was punctual and efficient, and also very helpful on practical matters such as arranging a safari trip. His familiarity with the areas we visited was very welcome, and he was also knowledgable about all kinds of national and local matters. I cannot recommend Asanka highly enough. We had to change drivers after a couple of days as the first driver was unsafe and Asanka saved our holiday and turned it into the trip of a lifetime. His English and driving is impeccable, he is a very experienced guide, he knows the country inside out, has contacts in every location and more importantly is the most friendly, kind, helpful, trustworthy and generous soul you will meet. He was also great with our children (13 and 11). Whilst we had an idea of itinerary, he helped to tailor it and came up with better suggestions as we went along. When things didn’t go to plan due to weather, he came up with a solution. It was my birthday when we were in Ella and he made it so special, organising surprises throughout the day. Sri Lanka is the most amazing country, but having a good guide / driver will completely shape your experience - I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him and would be happy to answer any questions directly 😊

My friend and I recently did a 3 week tour of Sri Lanka.
We chose to use Sri Lanka Driver Tours because of their excellent reviews and we were not disappointed.
My friend organised the tour with the owner, Hasantha and found him to be very easy to deal with. His communication, flexibility and helpfulness in organising the tour were excellent.
Hasantha met us at our accommodation and introduced us to Nirmal who was to be our driver and guide for the next 20 days.
Nirmal was professional, friendly, patient and knowledgeable. He gave good information about the places we were visiting and also made suggestions about interesting places which weren’t on our initial itinerary. He was always flexible when we wanted to make changes along the way. Nirmal organised excellent guides for us and was always helped when we needed assistance to buy tickets, find good places to eat , or when we needed an interpreter. He was very punctual picking us up from our accommodation or from any activities we were undertaking.
Nirmal has a wonderful sense of humour which we really appreciated. He speaks good English and was always willing to answer our numerous questions, nothing ever seemed to be too much trouble.
The trip exceeded our expectations and much of this was due to Nirmal. He helped to make the holiday a very special and unforgettable experience.
Sri Lanka is a beautiful, interesting country to visit and the people we met were very friendly, kind and helpful.
