Compared to many other towns in Sri Lanka Negombo is not bad. Relaxed atmosphere. Nice Dutch canal and lagoon. Churches. Fish market early in the morning, Sunday closed. Nice to stroll around. One day is more than enough though.

Taxi cost was a flat rate of $1500lkr ($14 AUD) from airport to Negombo Flying in from Australia, we landed at Colombo International airport late on a Friday night, changed some aussie dollars after going through customs and did not know what to expect in regards to barganing over the taxi cost...we were pleasently surprised! Airport Aviation Services have published the flat rate costs online, so that price suited us for convenience. Sure you can haggle for cheaper once outside airport, your call...

Loved the dodgy bar tour, met some funny and friendly people, sure we went to some dodgy places but we were made welcome and was well looked after. Didnt want the night to end, Suresh the guide was funny and I think we had toooo much arrack. You would never ever find these bars without this tour and it made a good change from going to the same usual beach road bars. It was fun going around in a tuk tuk from bar to bar. Would highly reccomend it

This was great fun getting away from all the touristy bars and drinking with the locals as you would back home. For a start it's a lot cheaper and if you are lucky or adventurous you can try the local brew arrak a cross between rocket fuel and a hint of what I assumed was some sort of bad brandy!! Your host Alan will look after your every need, within reason of course and will keep you out of trouble. If he has his friend Andy along for the ride expect a cracking double act of fun. A must do for a fun night out away from the norm

The Dodgy Bar Tour offered by Discover Negombo includes a visit to 5 bars with drinks and transport included. The drinks are Sri Lankan's local beer, Lion, or a local rum called arrack, made I think from coconut. The bars are not your usual tourist bars, they are bars where the locals go to, so it makes an interesting tour. Transport is by tuktuk.
