Me and my wife just got back from a 4 week trip around Sri Lanka, on a motorbike rented at Shaā€™s.

Although more expensive than any other mean of transport (besides having a private driver). I highly recommend touring around on a bike if youā€™re into that kind of adventure. That bike was definitively the hallmark of our stay in Sri Lanka.

It was all possible with the help and the business of Suranga, Shaā€™s owner. We planned the rental before leaving home. We booked the bike (Honda LA Custom 250) for 4 weeks, booked the first two nights at Shaā€™s Residence, planned the airport pickup and sent copies of my International Driverā€™s License so Suranga could prepare the Sri Lankan Driverā€™s License for us (the former is not valid in SR although it is used to produce the latter by the SR authorities).
The bike we got, the oldest and cheapest of its fleet, was 30 years old. It wasnā€™t perfect but it never seriously failed us during this 2500 km roundtrip.

We had a small accident mid-way and had to fix the bike with new cheap Indian mirrors, knowing weā€™d had to pay at the end for Suranga to get some original Japanese ones back. Altought the bike suffered wear and tear, getting it back was no hassle with Suranga and we barely had to pay for new mirrors.

Still, Suranga failed us twice. First, no-one showed-up at the airport even thought I confirmed everything again with him a few day before our arrival. He gave us some excuses, but in that case I still think he should have sent a taxi to pick us up at the airport. Second, at one point mid-way around the country we got stopped by a police officer who legimitely explained that our insurance paper (given by Suranga) expired a few days before. That was a terrible mistake as he forgot to give us the new ones (which he had). We were able to pick them up two days later as one of his employee met with us on his way to pick up customers on the other side of the island. I think there was a lack of professionalism on his side, leading to these two mistakes. I hope it wonā€™t happen again to other traveller.

Still, I donā€™t believe Suranga was ill-intentioned there. Putting this into perspective and looking at everything bad that could happen but did not during this month, I nonetheless highly recommend his bike renting services.

Heā€™s a man I trust and this adventure in SR could not have been possible without him.

I visited sha Lanka the day before l wished to go on a motorcycle tour. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We managed to build a personal guided tour of the interior for 6 days. My expectations were truly exceeded. I got to see some wonderful sights, animals, travel some interesting roads and enjoy what l believe to be the real Sri Lankan people. My guide, Sigal was knowledgeable and understanding to my wishes. What a wonderful race and country. In a word ' lush'.
