For dog lovers and those with compassion for animals, Embark has several stores selling T-shirts with clever logos and other goods with proceeds helping Sri Lankan street dogs. We came across this shop in Galle, and also visited their shop at 590 Marino Mall, Galle Road, Colombo 3 (there's also one at 38 Dickman's Road, Colombo 5 and in several other cities). All around Sri Lanka you will see emaciated and diseased street dogs. Embark was founded in 2007 to improve the wellbeing of street dogs through rescue, injury treatment and re-homing plus managing the population and preventing rabies through sterilisation and vaccination programs. Our son loved his T-shirt with the logo 'Rescue dogs are my favourite breed'.

We had a 14 day tour and Galle was supposedly a highlight. Tour guide obviously did not know about the Embark shop (or did not think we may be interested). We only found Embark at Colombo airport as we were flying out. WTF? We'd seen countless street dogs, especially in rural areas and talked to the tour guide about them many times. So sad. Googled the problem whilst there. Did I say so sad? Their Government is ****ed. Like every government. Too busy putting up statues and posters of themselves. You'll see a LOT of that. Bought a heap of things in the Embark shop - all cool, funky, good quality. My daughter works for the RSPCA and sooo... loved her gifts we got her from Embark. Look for this place if you are a dog lover. Probably the only way to help dogs there.

We didn't know about Embark until we passed its eye at hing exterior, very bright and cheery. We really enjoyed looking at all the canine related gifts and products and happily bought a couple of things knowing our purchases would assist the plight of street dogs in the country, a worthy enterprise.
