We were led to Yasiru Spice Shack by a lady that we booked a cookery class with. The man working there was thorough in showing us the different kinds of spices. However, he became vague when we asked about prices remarking only that it's done by weight. On choosing roughly 800 grams of different spices (5 small bags) he asked... More

The owner is a friendly and funny guy who will let you taste some spices for free. He answered all our questions and gave us a tea package for free. The prices and quality are very good ! Unfortunately the owner is a victim of the local mafia so don't follow anybody who wants to lead you to the Dutch... More

The guy was acted really friendly and open gave some tips. So bought some Safran and white golden tip tea which appeared really cheap. Now I know why... When I opened the "golden tip tea", they were little black corns in it which doesn't looked like any golden tip white tea at all! I don't know what I've got.. but I... More

my friend and i were ushered into this little shack ,under the giant buddha statue, in the main market by the owner. he's a bit pushy by western standards but not any more than what we encountered all over the island by other vendors. the prices may be higher than what you can find if you have the time to... They have men claiming to be your chef around Galle which lead you to this shack and pressure you into buying these outrageously expensive products. When we got there we realised what was happening but due to a worker blocking the exit we asked for a very very small amount of cinnamon powder, we received half a kilo gram of... More

I wish I could share the rave and the positive experiences of other travelers about Yasiru. But our experience turned out to be by far the worst letdown of our trip to Sri Lanka: first of all, the man in the little shack next to the dutch vegetable market seemed less interested in conversation than in quick selling. The Garam... More

We were approached beside the Galle cricket ground by a man saying he was our chef the previous night, a similar story recounted by someone else, and he got chatting about foods and spices, offering to show us a good place to get spices. We went along with him and we were impressed at the quality of the vanilla pods... More

Great little shop like a small kiosk The 2 young chaps in there were great, made their own mixes, gave us the recipes for cooking curries. Who cares if the supermarkets are a little cheaper, this griping from tourists is not warranted, try buying the same spices in your own country and you'll pay vastly more. Enjoy supporting local communities.... More
