A must do in Sri Lanka. History, culture, great cafes and shopping. Lovely to walk around the battlements and watch the sunset. Head to the Dutch Hospital for some lovely bars and small eateries. Live bands play on Friday night. Highly recommended

The old town is amazing, especially at sunrise when there are not many people around We walked the entire perimeter and would recommend it to anyone, it took 1,5 hour with pictures stops

The interesting and dramatic past makes Galle a worth while visit! Walk the forte (if not too hot!) and visit the museums.

Galle itself is ok and the views from the fort wall were lovely. We found the shops to be expensive but to be expected in a city. However we also found the street sellers to be pushier than anywhere else and the tuk tuk driver we used lied to us when we asked to be taken to the fort by... More

It was great to understand the magnitude of one of the great Portugese Forts. It gets very busy around the beaches surrounding the fort, as well as the shaded areas. Watch out for cars walking through the old town as not many footpaths. Was great to see the different colonial buildings.

I loooooved the Old Town of Galle and its Fortifications. We stayed here for 2 nights, though I could have easily spent a week in Galle. A walk around the remains of the fort walls is absolutely lovely, to catch the sunset / sunrise or even just watch the waves thrashing against the shore. The town is studded with restaurants,... Once you pass through the archway into the fort, you'll be transported to a place so far removed from the grime of the streets, and rush of the bus and train stations outside, you'll feel like you're in a secret European town. Tha Fort walls themselves can be walked upon, giving you water below your feet, and views within the... More

Galle old town is amazing. It's just like you stepping from Asia to Europe. Old towns beautyful narrow and quiet streets are pretty different than usual Sri Lankan towns. From fort walls you can get nice panoramas, especially around lighthouse.

If you have to do one thing while visiting galle it is visiting the fort area. Extremely well maintained with at least some buildings a couple of hundred years old. There are all sorts of shops in the compound including artisans , jewellery shops and designer stores . The ramparts give views of galle bay . We spent a couple... More
