This picturesque river gorge near Seogwipo is where the Hyodoncheon Stream which starts at Hallasan Mountain meets the ocean, it was popular on the afternoon of our visit with tourists paddling hired canoes in the gorge. The other option was a paid ride on a simple log style boat. For us we were happy just to view the gorge from the well constructed cliff boardwalk. Free parking was available adjacent to the river on the road.

The scenery here is very beautiful and picturesque. However, the sole propose of coming to this location was because the reviews stated that you could kayak here. However, when we arrive we were disappointed to learn that the kayaks and other water sports were gone. In addition all the signs for the water sports were still up, advertising and pointing you to their location. None of the locals could explain to us why the company no longer was in business.

Only one of the passengers is allowed to row. No explanation of what is going on. My gf was upset she didn’t get to row. The staffs were very rushing. Did not give enough time for you to think. Everything from finding entrance to the activities and safety was very poorly organised. Plus, unbelievably rude staffs made me speechless. I would never recommend to go here for a kayaking. I do think the staffs need to be educated better.

We went on a Sunday at about 10+AM and it was crowded. Transparent kayaks have to be reserved in advance so we opted for a floating water bike. When we bought our tickets we were told to come back at 12PM (the time was handwritten on the ticket). There are shade and chairs at the waiting area close to the rides where you get called out when your turn comes.
Since we had more than an hour to spare we headed to Jeongbang Waterfalls (about 10 mins drive away) and made it back on time.
The bike was easy to maneuver and unlike bicycles the handles do not steer. Overall an enjoyable 20 mins experience for 15,000KRW.

With a minimal fee of KRW10k, one gets to kayak along the stream for 20 mins. The water is clear and deep. Each wooden kayak can only take 2 passenger with only one person rowing.
The catch is, the ticket counter is a distance away from the port. And the best time to go is on a weekdays. Weekends are usually crowded.

Nothing much here unless you wanna do kayaking. No doubt the view is nice but the visit only took us less than 10mins cos we are not doing kayaking. Entrance is free. You can drop by if you have extra times to kill.

We read some blogs that showed amazing blue-green water, kayaks and paddleboards, and lots of places to jump in and swim. When we got there, we found some pretty views (including a pretty violent whirlpool that formed in the river as the tide came in), but ZERO activities. So it was a bit disappointing on that level.....but still, a pretty place for a stroll, and lots of cafes/shops/trinket-sellers around.

Love the view here because of the lush greenery. You will also be able to see that there're people going some Kayaking. But it depends on the season as well. There's also cafes nearby and once you're done with the view, you can also walk down along the coast towards the Yongdeum Rock (Rock that looks like a dragon). Definitely walkable distance With such lovely sea Breeze, and beautiful greenery. Do make sure you wear a hat and sunglasses if you're going in summer though.

If you are near by or driving around the island, this is definitely one of the places to check. It's not the place to stay longer than 2 hours since the place is small. I would recommend to get off the car and take a walk around the water enjoying the scenic view for about 1/2~an hour. My family were there in May when it was not too busy. There were only a few locals jogging and walking so we enjoyed the quiet, peaceful and almost mystic moment there.
The kayaks are no longer operating for the sake of environmental conservation. It definitely would have been amazing to have that clear water beneath when you paddle but I am glad that they've prohibited them. The place is amazing as it is. I would come back next time.

Do you know how to book in advance? Or how much it cost for a 1/2 day or full day rental?

You can't book a rental in Soesokkak(쇠소깍). It is first com-first service. Kayak rental fee is 15000 won(about $14) for 30 min. Water bicycle is also 15000 won(about $14) for 30 min, which takes a round trip. Soesokkak(쇠소깍) is a small place. You don't need to spend a half day. 1-2 hours are enough.

Hi, a review mentioned that I should make a reservation if I want to go for the transparent kayak. How can I go about doing that?

Hi, Vanessa,
Do you know how to go about getting the tickets early? Is there a website, or must we call the place to get ticket rides?
Thank you!

Hi! I am not sure too. I think you will just have to be there early to grab the tickets! I am also not sure of the total number of sessions each day. As when I went at around 11-12 noon, the next one was 5pm.
Hope this help!

Is it open during April? Will I get wet on the traditional wooden boat? Need to do reservation before going to avoid over-crowded?

Hi~
If you visit here, you can get the traditional wooden boat.
But there is many people in this place, so you should visit early. You don't need to do reservation because there is no reservation system.
I hope this helped you :)
Have a nice trip
