This is a pretty good place for photo taking, especially with the pagoda in the background. Visit only if time permits.

This place wasn't on my original itinerary, I found it while walking around my hotel. First off the temple is smack in the middle of the business district and can be seen from all sides.
Also looking for something to fill your Instagram, this is the place. So many spots are Instagram worthy.
However, it is only open to the public twice a day, 10am and 2pm so bear in mind.
Feel yourself with peace and serenity as you go through the place.

Watch the movie first to understand the history behind the pagoda - violent but not gory!
The reproduction model is beautiful. The interactive exhibits are well done. I stood and watched the 'building' of the pagoda a couple of times it was so fascinating. Bathrooms are immaculate and there is a small gift shop and cafe.

I highly recommend the Hwangyongsa Temple Site both as an intro to the historic sites in Gyeongju and as am important and interesting site in itself. Visit either or both of this site and the Gyeongju Museum for an introduction to the history of the Silla Dynasty. This site has a beautiful model recreation of the nine story pagoda that was (very sadly) destroyed as well as a small fascinating museum with many of the artifacts from it.

This is the place where once the 9-story tower of Gyeongju stood. On the inside the museum is smaller than you would expect from the outside, but what they are exposing is interesting and worthwhile. Staff is super friendly!

This was once the largest Buddhist temple in Korea, complete with a nine-story tower. Unfortunately thr Mongols burnt it down and there's nothing left but a few stones. There is a museum (that costs ₩3000) that has a 1/10 scale replica of the tower and the history of the temple.
