Monkey Surf made it easy to learn surfing with their kind and welcoming staff. The owner was personable and made sure our needs were met. Our instructor was enthusiastic and patient, supporting us and offering helpful tips as we practiced until we could actually stand on the board.
The facility has a chill vibe with natural light, incense and meditative music. Clean indoor showers, shampoo, soap, towels, and hair dryer are provided.
Added bonus- we got to listen to the owner play soothing Spanish guitar while we ate lunch.
I would definitely recommend Monkey Surf.

The instructor was incredible, the nicest guy and very good at instructing a first-time surfer.
We came a bit early and they offered us to sit in some amazing massage chairs while we waited for free. The hole vibe and location was amazing.
Oh and for a country that is not very ready for English speaking foreigners, this place was great.

Went to Busan on a vacay to take a break from the craziness of Seoul. Sent Monkey a kakao to see if they would still do lessons in December during covid. Great experience. Private lesson for the price of a group and could surf the rest of the day on my own. You wouldn't even think this was a business but moreso a chill hangout. Korea seems so stressful but this shop is a nice oasis. They even have massage chairs. Chillest koreans ive ever met would totally recommend.

Excellent staff and instructors! Fluent english, korean, and chinese (mandarin) instructors. I was assigned 2 different instructors for my 4 sessions, Adi and Wongyu. They were both extremely patient and gave me helpful feedback after each wave. They made me fall in love with surfing. The owner of the shop is friendly and kind. You get great value for your money. I highly recommend monkeysurf and would go back when I visit Busan again. Thank you to the entire monkeysurf crew!

Thinking about surfing in Busan?

I surfed with this shop for a few years. I should've written a review a long time ago, but I was lazy. I'm here now in southern America, and I miss the weekends I spent there greatly.

When I first looked for a shop to surf with, my main concern were the coaches. Could they speak English? Would they really be concerned with my learning experience, or would they just be some obnoxious young guys looking to quickly earn cash and go surf for themselves?

Actually, I've never seen the attitudes I've mentioned above at all in the waters, even with other schools' coaches. Every surfer in Songjeong seems to be friendly and all the coaches out there seem to enjoy teaching and really care.

So what makes Monkey Surf stand out?

Surfing in Songjeong is getting more and more popular by the year. So if you ever go out there one summer afternoon, the amount of people surfing is absolutely astounding. It's easier to tell which schools are out there since some have adopted a kind of "school uniform" system. So certain schools wear and surf with a certain color. You'll notice a lot of people wearing one or two colors in particular (red or green). These are some of the popular schools on the main drag. They get loads of customers. I'd be worried about the personal experience I get from a school of that size.

You know how when you were looking for courses or universities (etc) with a small teacher-student ratio in order to get a better teaching experience?

Monkey Surf operates on the far-left end of the beach, and on one street away from the beach front. He doesn't get the amount of customers a place like Surf Gym does, but that means you get quick, friendly service! You start feeling a family after a few times surfing!

Monkey himself is a veteran surfer who speaks great English. Don't let him tell you different. His coaches are young, extremely nice guys who also speak English! Don't let them fool you either, they may be shy about it. :P

They're all professional, laid-back, friendly and so much more! You'll never regret surfing here!

The crew likes to have bonfires and play music in the evening or night on some summer nights, so that's another fun experience if you're lucky to catch it.

(As for advice for surfing in Songjeong in general, try surfing either 7/8 in the morning or 2/3 in the afternoon to avoid the crowds. I found I enjoyed surfing the most around sunset when everyone's retreated for the day)

Went with 4 other friends and had a great time. We were greeted by friendly monkey and he had us fixed with boards for rent. He also has suits available. I was watching one of his instructors giving a class (me and my friends only rented as we were experienced) and he seemed very professional about the process. The only note I have to make is they don't have hard top (fiber) boards, so that might be a sad note if you are looking for something with a better performance, but otherwise in the area Monkey Surf is the place to go for renting or classes.
