Don't bother to go there
Sep 2021 • Couples
We stopped here on our vacation from Ohio and COULD NOT GO THROUGH stating they were not open to the public because they are having a special for 911. They should have put this on their website.

A lucky find

This museum is in development stage. Not a lot here yet but it is forthcoming. What they have...such as a sample Irish dwelling is interesting. This museum is telling the story of Irish immigration to NY. I write this in June 2021. Give them a few months it will be very cool.

Very small but worth a look........free, and an employee even opened up for us on a day they were closed when we called ahead. Cute slice of Irish culture.

Wonderful New Museum
Sep 2020
The museum has moved this year, from its former site on Broadway to Quackenbush square and the change is amazing! The museum is hosting a wonderful and touching exhibit from the Quinnipiac Famine museum. Sculptures, paintings and photographs depicting the Great Famine are beautifully and artistically displayed. Although the Covid-19 virus has halted the installation of some of the exhibits, the reconstructed Irish cottage and other areas are fascinating. For those wanting to learn more about Irish history in American and in Ireland this is the place. In addition their website describes the lectures and events that are available. The parking lot is located in the metered lot behind the Albany Pump Station and a short walk to the left of the Station to the museum. The location is perfect for dining outdoors at the Pump Station or the Old Quackenbush House. We had a delightful afternoon!

If you're Irish you should visit
Oct 2019
This is a very small museum in the historic downtown area but they have a lot of interesting Irish artifacts that you're unlikely to see elsewhere. Very pleasant staff! Have dinner or lunch at the nearby Olde English Pub on Broadway and you may hear some Irish music too - call Olde English for information. No parking - use a taxi or Uber.

Great museum of heritage

Great museum for anyone Irish or who has an interest in the Irish. Right now they have a great exhibit about Fr. Patrick Peyton and his Hollywood ministry.

This is a very small place with a limited variety of artifacts, however it was fun to visit and the staff was great.

Nice people, limited in size and scope

I stopped in here because I had some spare time after lunch one day. It is an interesting place, although it really only warrants about 10-15 minutes of time. (I did not look at the library, which others have said is very impressive.) The volunteers there are very friendly and knowledgeable, and fun to talk to. I wold recommend this place if you are right in the area, or if you are Irish. Otherwise, I would probably skip it.

Half Hour to Visit but You'll Learn
Aug 2018
If you like the horse racing in Saratoga, go to see the history of how it came into being. The room in the back is full of books to look up and read about Irish ancestry. If you're already walking around Albany, NY, pop in for a short but interesting visit.
