Great staff

When we came in they were 2 nice people at the visitor's center counter. Both were very helpful regarding information about the Capitol, and which way to get there from our hotel.

The greeter at the New York State Museum guided us to the Albany Visitors Center as a must-see. It is far more than a room with leaflets and information. Located in one of the oldest buildings in one of the oldest sections of Albany, it is a step back in time. A beautifully landscaped courtyard beckons one to rest. A... More

The ladies who were working there the day we stopped in were so helpful. They gave us many maps and lots of advice. There is also a very nice exhibit about the Erie Canal, famous politicians who had their roots in Albany politics and other famous residents, including many wealthy Dutch. Nice gift shop available as well.

It's a little tucked away but when you find it, it's a gem. The displays give you a good background to the history of Albany and the staff are friendly and helpful.

We took up the offer of a free walking tour. I think they're every 2nd Thursday of the summer months. Tacy was our guide and it was wonderful hearing her local stories and experiences of the City, but was knowledgeable on its history and the origins of Albany too. I'm no history buff, but I really wanted to go and... More

The people were very friendly and helpful. There is a nice display of the USS Albany past and I the recent past, dioramas of early Albany and when we were there,a very nice display from a local artist. The neighboring building, one an English style pub, is the oldest building in Albany - some interesting architecture.

All questions were answered fully and additional travel ideas were given to us by Deb. This was our second visit to the center and each time her assistance was very much appreciated. Bob and Betsy. From the Boston area

As one of the oldest settlements in this part of the USA, the records here go back a long way. The 1695 census particularly impressed me. The diorama time-line, while fairly basic, is a good starting point. A number of school children were finding it fascinating during my visit. Found staff helpful and very knowledgeable.
