I went for the 4th of July event. It was very nice. The crew were all polite and helpful, the captain was very nice as well. The city of Albany cancelled the fireworks due to severe thunderstorm, so we were given a rain check to return the next day to view the fireworks free of charge. I absolutely love cruising on the Dutch Apple. I will definitely come again and recommend this cruise to everyone.

We had a peaceful and enjoyable day along the Hudson River. The first 45 minutes of the cruise was narrated and gave interesting information and history of the area. The second 45 minutes of the cruise was quiet so you could enjoy the scenery and relaxing water. Only one cruise per day at 1pm, so check website carefully for schedule.

We timed our tour of the USS Slater and planned a cruise down the Hudson on Dutch Apple Cruises right next to the USS Slater (if you are in the area I highly recommend visiting both). There a clean restroom on the dock, as the USS Slater does not have one. The Dutch Apple has restrooms aboard and both the ones on the Cruise and the Dock were very clean and well maintained. The crew of the Dutch Apple from those in the store where you purchase your tickets (which can also be purchased in advance online) to the tour guide and crew members could not be nicer. We lucked out an had spectacular fall weather. The cruise was very informative, our Guide was a wealth of information on the history of the area, we also were visited by an American Bald Eagle who fly over our ship a few times, I had never seen one this close it was majestic and beautiful. The guide explained how they have a few nests in the area which he pointed out. We were fortunate enough to be visited by this amazing bird. The cruise down the Hudson in and of itself was scenic. We went just as the leaves were beginning to show their fall colors. There was food and beverages (including beer) for purchase on the ship. Highly recommend for a couple or family!

My husband and I took 2 of our grandchildren on this river cruise. Our grandchildren are ages 2 1/2 and 5. I thought that our grandchildren were possibly too young for the trip. I also thought we would be too warm on a boat on an almost 90 degree day. We really enjoyed the trip. Our grandchildren did well. The boat seemed to be full, and there were mostly family groups, with lots of children. Children 2 and under are free. Admission for our 5 year old granddaughter was $12. We brought our own food and drinks on the ship, which worked well for us. We arrived at the dock at 12:15pm. Boarding begins at 12:30. Arriving early gave us the chance to choose the seats we wanted- on the open deck, but under an awning. With cooling breezes as we traveled, we never got too hot. Our guide, Peter, narrated the 45 minute trip downstream. His narration was interesting and informative. Our grandchildren were excited about seeing 3 eagles on the trip. On the return trip there is no narration. Our grandchildren enjoyed sitting close to the side, and listening to their grandfather point out natural attractions. We enjoyed this scenic, informative trip. I recommend it to tourists and residents in the Albany area.

We were offered the opportunity to take the cruise through our Parent's weekend package with through Siena College. It was a wonderful time. I must admit when I saw rain in the forecast I was a bit nervous but the lower and middle deck are completely covered and heated (cooled in summer). We were given a discounted rate but after looking at the website the full price would be a great value also.
The staff at the bar/food service counter were friendly and helpful. The menu is not huge so don't plan on a complete meal but on this day we were offered hot dogs, chips, soda, cider, doughnuts, coffee and alcohol. Our party had a few hotdogs, some soda and doughnuts and coffee. All reasonably priced.
The guide was extremely knowledgeable and open to questions. The information was both historically based along with some quirky facts, mixed in with some silly humor. The guide traveled from deck to deck and when she was on your deck you really felt like she was talking to you.
There is a ramp to access the boat which was pretty step, and although it was wet the day we traveled holding on the railings made you feel stable and safe. It might be tough to push a wheelchair up the ramp but there might be another access if necessary.
Great job staff of the Dutch Apple! I am not sure you would benefit from a second trip but for our first time and was wonderful.

Honestly, there's not much city of Albany to see from the river. Mostly, it's old industrial buildings, and the narrator on this cruise is ready to tell you what it all is--if you find that interesting. As you go down the river (or up?) you'll see more trees and yards and pretty houses, and if you're lucky you'll spot a few eagles. The crew is very friendly and they have a great sense of humor, as well as service-minded, which adds a lot to the experience. It's not amazing, but it's worth your time and your money if you're in Albany.

It's a great concept, but not worth what we paid. It's definitely 5 stars if you like seeing old industrial docks and warehouses . If you were expecting to see any of the other beautiful sights on the Hudson River (like us) you will be very disappointed.

The classic tour up and down the Hudson River by Dutch Apple Cruises is full of surprises. The sights include wonderful riverside homes, industrial wonders, container ships, and wildlife including eagles. Commentary is good and easy to hear on all three decks and there is seating both inside and out. The tour is well-priced and very enjoyable.

The staff is friendly and there are a snack bar and bathrooms on the boat. Seating is comfortable. And the ride is smooth. I highly recommend taking this tour.

This tour which accommodates about 40-50 people is an absolute delight. We chose a 1 - 3 pm tour on a mild June Saturday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it - two adults looking for something fun to do in Albany for the day. Departs from the same dock as the USS Slater and a jovial docent provides the commentary as you cruise south of Albany, past a lot of industrial processing plants, down to a section of the river that is like a wildlife refuge. We saw Bald Eagles, Blue Heron, all kinds of ducks and other birds and learned so much about the history of the area last century. Comfortable seating on the boat, both covered and not covered (mind that sunburn) and a snack bar with drinks and snacks available. Highly recommended.

My friends and I took the cruise to learn a bit about the river and enjoy our lunch on board. We learned about the Dutch connection of the area, the commerce of the shipping in the area. We also go to see 8 eagles along the way. That was amazing in itself. There were herons also. The shoreline history was explained. It give one a better appreciation of our history along the Hudson River and the canal system of New York.
