This is a must for anyone traveling to the Seychelles, if you drink or not. So much effort has been put into the restoration of the building and preserving the history. SCR100 pp to do the rum tasting, this currently includes a free distillery tour around the premises with Retha. She also took us through the herb/spice garden and introduced us to Taka and Maka, the tortoises on site 🐢. You will taste 5 rums afterwards. The souvenir shop offers everything you never thought you needed, including cool flip-flops, beach bags and of course rum. 😁 Restaurant is currently closed.

The visit is indeed free, there are complimentary guided tours at 11am,1pm and 3pm and they include a tasting as well. But when asked if you want to take the tasting that costs 125 SCR, say NO and when you walk in, DON'T take the bracelet . The guided tour includes the same tasting but if you have the bracelet they make you pay for it as if you took the extra rum tasting besides the complimentary one. It's not a matter of the price as 125 SCR is not much but I didn't at all appreciate the way they make us feel when they charged us just because we had a bracelet and didn't charge other tourists who also had the same tasting - just because they didn't have a bracelet. It's simply not fair, they are poorly organized, unprofessional and besides the owner and is arrogant and the cashier speaks to you as if that's the last place on earth where she wants to be.
Takamaka is a cheap rum with a very strong marketing campaign (rum made from melasa and from a press machine is by default cheap) but hey, you're only visiting the distillery once right?
Btw, Takamaka at the duty free in the airport in the 1L bottle has the same price as the 0,7l bottle you find at the distillery or at the supermarkets.

Dear Alina, We are really sorry that you didn’t have a great experience. We totally take on board that not everyone always has a band for the tasting but there are no free tastings. The tour is complimentary. However – sometimes people in pre-arranged pre-paid groups don’t have the wrist bands and if people join late we do always ask them to pay afterwards. I was sad to see the comment around our rum – we work really hard to produce both molasses aswell as locally grown Seychelles Cane Rum. We also have 40,000L of Tropically Aged rum and we do use some innovative techniques like Cavitation. Absolutely - purchasing at the airport almost always offers a discount as it is tax free. Finally – we apologize if any of our staff came across badly – we love welcoming visitors to La Plaine St Andre and will continue to work hard to try and ensure everyone has an amazing time. Hope you enjoyed your trip overall, Many thanks Takamaka Team

Nice interesting tour and rum tasting, it would be great to see more of the real process though. Takamaka is expanding and the possibility’s for a even better tour is probably better.
Expect no discount prices, the rum was cheaper at the airport and the same price as in other stores. Nice merchandise!

Beautiful tour of the Distillery and the garden around it. I loved the history behind Takamaka Distillery and the best above all is the tasting itself. They have a wonderful and truly special series of Rum all made with love. My favorite was the pineapple rum, light and amazing with cocktails. They have a nice outdoor bar that serve very refreshing signature cocktails with a beautiful garden setup. The tour was right on time, so informative and I would strongly recommend it to anyone who visit Seychelles.

A very positive experience. The tour of the estate, with an explanation of all the rum distillation processes, was excellent and interesting.

The rum tasting is something that is an added value to the whole tour. The price is reasonable and the guided tasting is extremely interesting and entertaining.

Unfortunately, we did not know beforehand that Friday evenings are reserved for partying with rumba music and good drinks. Otherwise, we would have happily spent Friday evening there.

A few hours after the tour we were still enjoying the estate, drinking the best and very affordable cocktails with TAKAMAKA rum! Highly recommended!

We had a lovely time at the distillery, we had planned to spend a few hours there including taking part in the free tour which was very good with friendly and knowledgeable staff, the rum tasting which was well priced at 150 rupees for two, have some lunch and a drink. We spent time wandering the grounds, meeting Taka and Maka as well as buying some rum in the shop. The food was very tasty from the food truck and the cocktails were delicious too - all very well priced compared to other places/restaurants on the island.

Friendly staff who knew their products and were able to advise on certain rums. At times, during the tastings, the spiel sounded a little robotic and didn't deviate from the practised speech. If you wanted to try a couple of different rums you had to pay extra at the bar. Thankfully I was not charged as I was buying on behalf of someone else.
The bar sells custom made cocktails that are fresh and lovely and the gardens are a joy to walk round. We did not do the tour due to the heat.

Although the museum and grounds were interesting and very beautiful, by far the best part of the visit was the tour, led by Radika. That lady was terrific and could persuade Eskimos to buy snow! So informative and funny, she's a brilliant asset to the distillery.

The rum, naturally, was excellent and I especially enjoyed the coconut and pineapple varieties.....separately and mixed together.

I would recommend everyone visiting Seychelles to go.....and maybe go again.

Thank you Takamaka

A fun place to go and spend a few hours. The tour was a good hour long and interesting, although we got eaten alive by mosquitos walking through the gardens so perhaps put some insect repellent on! We chose not to taste all the rums as we had done the 11am tour so was a bit early. The tour was free but I believe you had to pay for a tasting. We chose to sit in the garden and have a cocktail each instead which was tasty and reasonably priced. There is a food truck which looked to be serving basic food - although we didn’t try it. The shop was also fab - much moved on from when we visited a few years ago with lots of fun ‘Takamaka’ memorabilia you can purchase to take home.

The host/tour guide/owner is a funny, knowledgeable and warm person with many detailed insights to the business, Seychelles and of course distilling Rum. Apart from the distillery and rum tasting we also enjoyed the little tour through the herbs garden and saying hi to Taka & Maka. Two giant land turtles teenagers living on the property. Wishing the company all the best to increase their business in a crazy competitive market!! Worth a visit and hopefully she will be there to give you a tour. Tours start at 11am 1pm and 3pm. Rum tasting is 125 rupees.
