About
The minaret of this mosque is a Jaffa landmark. It can be seen all over Jaffa, and beyond. It is situated close to the sea, at the base of the bluff upon which Old Jaffa sits.

The Great Mahmoudiya Mosque is in Old Jaffa; it is easy to find. The minaret is a Jaffa landmark, it can be seen from all over the city. The Great Mosque is nicely decorated, without being extravagant. This historic house of worship is one of the largest mosques in Israel

In the old city of Jaffa this mosque standard out due to its beauty and the architecture . The impressive entrance and the whole area in an experience which is unforgettable . The minarets of the mosque are witness to the faithful who have been guided over here . Within walking distance from the tower - the origin of the walking your of the old Jaffa city tour .

The Muhamadiya Mosque in old Jaffa, on the way from the clock tower up the hill to St. Peter's Church is a wonderful mosque and oldest one in Jaffa. Its building goes back to the 1730ies.

The courtyard welcomes you with its tranquil greenery, and the decorations inside are intricate yet not too complex. The names of major prophets are written on the corners of the two mosque domes: Muhammad, Jesus, Moses, Abraham, Noah, etc. What is unique is there are two prayer niches (mihrabs), one on the right half and one on the left half of the mosque.

This is a very old mosque built first in 1730 , in the Ottoman period , renovated completely In 1810 , and a few times later . The third most important mosque in Israel after the Ala’ksa mosque in Jerusalem and cave of patriarchs in Hebron . Big central hall , big yard , a very important library with hand written holy books . Guided tour that needs pre coordination , recommended .

Unless you are Muslim, you can't go in...included as part of a walking tour of places to stop and see, this is worth a look, but it's not a long one as only the outside/facade and washing areas are visible. Still part of the interesting mix of cultures and religions that make this city of interest.

The gates to the mosque are usually closed and it isn't open to visits unless they are pre-arranged. Its beauty is hidden behind the outer walls but once inside it is overwhelmingly beautiful and serene. There are many antiquities within the walls also.

Whilst spending a day in Jaffa I thought i'd drop in the mosque.

I dont believe it was opened to all general tourists, as there was a no entry sign on the door, i assume because it was close to prayer time and they were keeping room for prayer-goers. Being Muslim myself I was allowed in just so i could have a look around and show my non-muslim mother around (she borrowed a scarf from me, luckily i'd bought some earlier that day)

Considering how old the mosque old is, I was very amazed at how well kept the mosque was kept. It is beautifully decorated inside and out. The courtyard was beautifully decorated with palm trees and colourful flowers. The stone flooring was shiny and clean and being washed literally as we walked around. Inside the Prayer areas The carpets were fresh and fluffy like brand new. They were stunningly decorated with ottoman inspired art and arabic calligraphy. Nearly every part of the mens prayer area had me mezmorized, from the door to the art work on the huge dome!

I was very very pleased to see a seperate, more recently built, womans prayer room and wash area. As with the mens area it was very well decorated, clean, and maintained. Both the mens and womens areas were air conditioned for comfort.

Wish I could have stayed longer just to take all the beauty of it in, but i wanted to leave before the prayer goers turned up ...

I think i'm definately going to pop in again next time i'm in Jaffa for a redose of tranquility and peace :)

There's really nothing great about this mosque, located by the seashore of Tel Aviv.
It is not unique nor interesting, plus - it is not well maintained.
Skip it, as it's not worth your time.
