There is not much to see or do it, it is nice enough for a few hours, you can walk along the cliffs along the coast and there are a few old stones to look at etc., but really nothing special. I got in as I have a year's membership to go in all national parks, but if I had paid 28 shekels especially to get in then I would have felt a bit ripped off. For the trails around the national park there are hardly any signposts and the map is not that helpful. Improved signage/markers would help a lot.

Ashkelon was a major city and port for centuries. The Park started as an archaeological site that was excavated many years ago.
Today there is not much to see. Remains of two churches, a good place for picnicking, a nice view of the sea.
No direction signs or explanation of the remains in the park, except a map that you get at the entrance.

The special things to see in this park are:
• The world's oldest arched city gate, from the Canaanite period 1850 BCE !
• The pillars from the remains of the huge Roman Basilica from the 3 CE.
• The walk along the ancient wall path with beautiful views of the sea (if not too hot!)
• The remains of the old port where the beautiful Roman pillars where shoved into the stone wall for support. The crashing waves here are beautiful too. This can be found at the southern beach of the park.

If you visit during the warm months, bring a bathing suit and enjoy the private beach.
There is a small snack bar in the middle of the park, near the basilica and restrooms.
There are outside shower facilities at the campground.

During the summer the park is now open till 10:00 at night! (Not sure about hours on Friday/Saturday)
Entrance Fee: Adult NIS 29; child NIS 15

Whenever I have visitors come to Ashkelon I always bring them to the National Park. There is a gate in the park that is the oldest arched gate in the world. There are many other interesting archeological remains in the park. Things are not very well marked so if you can go there with a guide you would probably get a lot more out of it.

It's not spectaculair as they say.
When you walk there, there is not much extra to see....
It's more like a big standard park, then as a national park where you can see a lot of things, specially for a country.

Outstanding archaeological site dating back to Canaanite period with with famous, well preserved mud brick gate.

Great signage. On-going excavations. Can camp overnight and picnic with grills available - bring your own charcoal.

Worth a visit.

Ashkelon National Park was a fun adventure...rich history dating back thousands of years...the word Ashkelon actually comes from the word Shekel.

We went when the weather was cooler and highly recommend doing so if possible. We lingered at both the view points and the sites...watch the ground as you walk...there are small pieces of pottery everywhere. It was fun to pick up the pieces and think about what they could have belonged to...and what time period as the pieces were diverse.

You can walk the whole park or drive to a few of the main parking areas and explore from each parking area.
