This rectangular park located in eastern region of Mataram City, the capital city of Nusa Tenggara Barat Province. It was served as royal pond for king and his family. The park consist of a large man made pond, in the middle of it there is a structure like small island-temple.

Joging track available circling the pond, several building and pure ( for a hindu take a prayer) islocated inside the park. Ticket considered cheap as IDR10.000 aprox. Usually in the afternoon, lot of youth and fisherman come through just for hang-out or fishing.

Best time to visit here is in afternoon weekdays, or morning in weekend. Di a walk or jog and relaxing in royal pond of Sasak Mataram Kingdom.

History, as always, is more interesting than any legend! In the early 19th century, Lombok was divided into several small kingdoms (several kingdoms on a small island!). After almost constant wars, 2 large kingdoms remained - Sasak Singasari and Sasak Mataram. In 1839, war broke out between the two kingdoms, resulting in Singasari's defeat. In the mid-19th century, the victorious ruler wanted to build a new palace complex on the site of the former Singasari Palace; construction of the palace was completed in 1866. To the east of the great palace is a garden - Mayur's Garden. This place became the ruler's resting place and a habitat for domestic animals and birds, including many peacocks. The bliss did not last long - the civilized and enlightened Dutch came, conquered and defeated the local “barbarians”, and burned the palace down. After the defeat from the Dutch, all that remained of the destroyed palace was Mayura Park with a pond and a small house - a “palace” in the middle of the pond. Now there is a small temple and a place for recreation and sports for local residents.

I am not that impress with Mayura site, i think the government does not put so much efforts to ensure the site is fine to be seeing. There is an entrance fee that was collected upon arrival and this fee can be done to support and improve the site.

Lovely quiet place to chill and nice temple. Nothing special or bombastic, but if you have some time in Mataram, it’s not bad idea to spend it here.
