I guess I misunderstood something at first. We arrived on the outskirts of the city to a fishing area that smelled of fish (that's right - oil) to visit the Hindu temple Pura Segara. From there we wanted to walk along this beach. There was a beach. Dirty, littered, black, also smelling of fish and crowded with boats one after another. We went along a parallel street. The local residents looked at us, strangers, as if we were aliens. In Mataram there are generally few people of “European nationality”, and in these quarters, apparently, there have never been any Caucasians at all. Every child wanted to touch us. It turns out we had to walk another 400 meters in the heat and we would still have gotten to a normal embankment, but my son didn’t have enough strength and we called a taxi.

The place is for local to gather to spend the evening and relaxing. Playing, walking by the beach or sit to watch the sun set.
Not so spectacular but we really love the place. There are place for children to play, kolam pancing. So many food and snack to choose from. Grilled Sweetcorn, dougnat, pastel etc. Urap, pelecing, sate seafood and sate baduk/usus and many kind seafood to choose from. Many stall to sit. Away from the beach where we are safe from the wind or just by the beach...you can get the splash from the wave 😊.
The sunset here is pretty. One of the reason to come.
There is nice clean mushalla to pray if you want to stay longer but do not want to miss magrib.
Ampenan Beach is used to be a seaport before it moves to Lembar. You can see the remnants of the pier in the near distance.
You will pass china town on the way

mostly, local or domestic visitors fulfilled this place. To watch sunset, enjoy seafood, or just relaxing and feel the breeze of the beach wind. Located in Old Mataram City, this place used to be a pier but now set as public place to spend time with family or friends

After a full day visiting the market or malls of Mataram city, take a short ride (best with a bike) to Ampenan before sunset and book a spot facing the sea, towards the end of the esplanade where access to the best local food selection (the corner stall behind the last seafront stall) is the easiest. Get satay, grilled squid or fish, spicy crab, tempe, salads etc for a relaxed dinner.
