    Amazing Gili Air
Long time and frequent lover of this island. Forget the others, go inland away from the beach and you will find amazing local local local. A blessed almost spiritual place. ❤️❤️

A little bit of paradise to get away from it all.
I would never have known these islands existed only for my son backpacking was advised to visit them and they didn't disappoint. Three small islands we chose gilli t island. Accessed by boat these little islands have no cars and you can tell the fresh air. Transport is bicycle and horse n cart. Short travel to any hotel or villa. These people cater to you re every need. It was beautiful. Sunlit walk down the little terrace to breakfast a nd a good breakfast it was or they deliver any meals to you re villa. If you are not put off by 10 minute dirt trek walk to beach it is well worth it. Definitely a place to get away from it all.

    Gili Air Island Wow!!
What an awesome place, no cars on the island. Very quiet, only bicycle's electric bikes, and the food is excellent. The people are great. Swimming with turtles just a few feet from our hotel Sandy Beach was amazing and a lifetime experience

Gili Air is perfect for some
Gili Air. Amazing place. You'll read negative things. But it depends what you want. Aye. It's a bit rough around the edges. Personally, I like that. This is a community making a living. Work is going on. Overall one of the most chilled places I have ever been. No petrol or diesel motors. Me and my family don't want to leave. We planned on 1 night during our Indonesian travels but are staying 4 now. I would love to stay longer. Amazing place. I just hope it doesn't get over developed. It's perfect the way it is. The people are amazing, the food is amazing and if you want to do nothing and go for a wee wander it's amazing. Love the place. A truly unique place to stay. If you want the Maldives, forget it. You will hate it as much as I imagine I would hate a holiday in the Maldives. This is perfect to me.

    Transportation to your hotel
I love this island but I don't understand how horses can be treaded in this way. It's our fault like a tourist because we are choosing this transportation. It's such a small island everyone can look after their luggage theirselves. You don't need to use poor pony that to get to your hotel.

    Paradise
Love this Island! Kind and friendly locals, great food options, regular live music and awesome bars. Magical snorkelling just off the beach! (check direction of current) walk to near Pelangi, jump in and drift back to Turtle Beach, or in front of Chill Out for a Margarita! When there in June a new local group had taken charge of the past rubbish issue, while it doesnt stop rubbish washing up from Lombok, the beaches were cleaned daily along with business rubbish collection. They now also have recycling facilities, and the "Gili Care" group is well supported. Well done Gili Air!!

This island is horrendous and abismal. It is like walking into a devastated village that still hasn’t been reached by civilization. It smells of burnt trash and is dusty, rural and just filthy. All the resorts seem to be abandoned, neglected and destroyed. The povery here is seen on every corner and not even the beaches justify the hype around Gili Air. The beach resorts are empty, the employees seem to be fed up and are damn right unpleasant, always trying to get more money out of you. The services and food are horrible and the prices for it are just absurd and inflated. We do not recommend a visit to the Gili’s. If you want to experience untouched nature and explore new places, this iskand will leave you disappointed and miserable you spent any time here at all. All the tourists seem unhappy and hate this place and rightly so. The locals are not very pleasant and seem more annoyed with the tourists than anything else.

Beautiful venues, especially loved A Villa Air

However, the beaches and island is far from pristine and there is a mosque waking everyone up multiple times a day, as well as ranting over the loudspeakers for hours a day. They recently added more speakers and placed them higher, so that even the locals say they are getting crazy. Not peaceful.

The whole island is very dark with uneven and unsafe paths, you wil definitely need a torch if coming to this island as it is very challenging to get around at night. I personally found it extremely challenging and I am not old or have any mobility issues.

I recommend staying on the main roads either in town or facing the beach and not in the centre of the island, as most likely you will not be able to find your accommodation at night.

The amount of tourism the island receives I am unsure why they do not put a focus on safety and fix the paths and install lighting around the island. If you are elderly or have mobility issues I would recommend skipping this island and possible consider Gili Trawangan instead where it’s a little more developed.

Would never ever choose this destination again! Be very aware that if you're looking for peace and silence avoid this place by all means. It's virtually impossible to sleep due to rave beach parties running all night only to be reminded again to avoid this noise by 4:30 prayers. Ridiculous.

Gili Air was previously a nice crunchy island which has been taken over by commerce. Far too high prices for a stay and restaurants have quintupled in 2 years and prices tripled. There is a lot of rubbish on the island which is not cleaned up, the same on the beaches. Very much overvalued and priceless. Too bad for the island.

I visited all three Gili Islands spending a night on each and Gili air turned out to be the most beautiful. Postcard sea with both sandy and rocky seabeds, a long coastline for snorkelling where you can see blue corals and large turtles. There are fewer people than the other islands and in general there is a good compromise between services (bars, restaurants and markets) and the originality of the place. I recommend choosing a hotel that overlooks the sea and the eastern part so that in the morning you wake up and go directly snorkeling.

I slept on this island two nights after 6 days in Bali. 50 euros round trip each for the ferry that takes 2 hours.
Arrived at Gili Air we were struck by the decadence of the place.
Garbage everywhere.
It smells like persistent chicken poop.
Houses with sheet metal roofs.
Degrado ovunque.
Tourist carts pulled by thin and tired horses.
Higher prices than Bali and absolutely unmotivated.
An incredible disappointment, DO NOT COME.
The beautiful sea but the poorly equipped beaches and especially the sea full of garbage.
Shameful.

I've traveled all over the world, I've been to Bali three times, the first time 20 years ago, I've come back these days, traveling as a couple, avoiding commercial places, I must say that choosing the right areas, Bali still leaves you inside that charm, which captured me all those years ago.
The sore note only the gili , apart from gili less where you can still admire the turtles , gili trawangan in the south where there is the sunrice near the port and ‘terrific to escape, even a padel court! It still saves the northern part where there are sunsets , horses , and turtle sightings , after 6 you can swim because of low tide , and good restaurants and spas on the beach .
We get to gili air of which audience the photos. Unless you live in your Villa and therefore you do not do sea , there is a totally waterless part where there is sunset, so all day you are forced to stay in the harbor area, unwatchable with umbrellas attached to dirt, inside so much dirt. There is nothing of tropical paradise. They are destroying these 3 islands, both local people and tourism. Not even!

Pure relaxation island
It is accessed by boat
From padangbai, it's 2h30 of chaos
Lots of hotels and pseudo resorts galore
Avoid those close to the mosque, because you wake up very early.....
The sea is beautiful but shallow so swimming there is a problem!!!
Sea slippers required because of the corals
For the turtles, go in front of the kaluku, it's a spa restaurant
Here any cuisine, any type of restaurant
From local to tapas and bohemian veggies
Mowies, pachamama, and other organic bars.
Possible to tour the island by bike
A bit of a hassle because there are a lot of sandy paths where you don't drive much
9:30 p.m. everyone goes to bed
For sunset, go to mowies or pink coco
For breakfast, mowies, and its fun smoothies, or Aura and its bowls
Go explore with headlamps, the alleys where the lives of the locals take place
