Private paradise

This is the page about the beach, so that's what I'm rating, not the resort. The bad news is, if you're on TripAdvisor you're likely to never see it. As others mentioned, it's completely private, God knows since when. We had some time in the late afternoon during our tour of Sumba and decided to head there. The road is newly paved, which gave us higher chances to arrive by the sunset. Instead, we found the road blocked and a tough-looking guard telling us only guests of the resort could get in. We wasted time, and the splendid view of the bay at sunset we could see from the road on our way back only added to our disappointment.
Sumba is kind of third, maybe fourth world, which means it can be easily bought up by wealthy Australians to be their own private summer camp.

next level

Nihi Sumba is possibly the best resort we have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The whole experience is truly breath taking and most certainly, one of a kind. It's hard put a finger on any one thing, but it starts from the moment you set foot in the airport where you will be greeted by the VIP team to escort you through customs etc. and upon landing on Sumba, experiencing an open air safari ride across the island to the resort. Nihi sumba sets a new standard in Luxury experiences. It's the culmination of 5 star accommodation, first class service, unique and magnificently appointed Villas, ( the Tree House takes it to the next level - it's off the charts) professional and friendly staff willing to help in any way as we experienced, including the owner Chris Burch. The staff really made us feel like we were special guests. World class surfing, fishing, phenomenal food, great events for the guests, raw nature in every direction you look, the Spa experience is on another level. The local people are just so charming and friendly, completely un jaded by our presence. We want our kids to experience Nihi Sumba and the people of Sumba. It's a completely immersive experience and we are already planning our next family vacation.

It doesn't get any better!!

Literally from the moment you land in Bali (and you’ll be glad you’re leaving there), and then your arrival in Sumba, the attention to detail and service is unparalleled. The warm and inviting Sumbanese people are humble and all smiles (Sumba means smile). Julien & Cara are two of NiHi Sumbas best ambassadors and the resorts managers. The waves, people, food and sunsets will not soon be forgotten. It’s definitely worth the effort to get there. Best chocolate croissants you've ever had,...guaranteed!!

Top sight to see

Under the south cliff of the island Sumba where the edge is hit by the Indian Ocean waves. To go down to the beach is a challenge, unless you stay at the Nihi Ressort the world best ressort

Beautiful but private property

One of the most beautiful beach on the island. The access is only through Nihi Resort. To enjoy the beach, you'd better stay in Nihi Sumba Resort

A night with best ocean views
Jan 2018 • Family
Using very large piece of land being in 2 hills facing the ocean makes the Nihi a private place and location.
The food is excellent and the villas are luxury and very well maintained. Comfortable walks to all part of the hotel. The staff are very well trained and very friendly although most of them are sumbanese. Not a cheap place but as with predicate of best eco hotel in the world. It says enough.

Wonderful World

Nihi exists in a league of its own. The site alone makes Nihi a unique experience. Of top of all these positives there is the marvellous staff that creates, wherever you are at the premises, an ambiance of wellbeing and peaceful living. The served food is truly of an exceptional, outstanding quality.

Beautiful deserted beach
Sep 2017 • Couples
Nihiwatu Beach is one of the most stunningly empty beaches I have seen for a long time.

We were lucky enough to be staying at Nihi for 3 days so the beach was on our doorstep. Having breakfast high above the beach watching the surf break will remain in my memory for many a year as will gazing as the sun sinks below the horizon.

Virtually deserted apart from a few locals herding their water buffalo along the sand. So wonderful to see a beach with a backdrop of dense foliage and trees.

Nearly deserted beach, fun waves!
Jan 2018 • Family
The beach is virtually empty most of the time. The nearby hotel actively discourages guests from swimming there because the waves are large and break close to shore. The waves are not huge like Hawaii and Australia often have, but they're big enough to be fun for adults and teenagers as long as they're good swimmers. Smaller kids and weaker swimmers may not enjoy being pushed around by the ocean.

The beach is sometimes used by locals When we were there a troop of boys was chasing after a cow that got loose and evidently really wanted to swim in the ocean. (Who knew that cows could swim so gracefully!).

The beach also has several small creeks from the mountains that cut through the beach and end in the ocean. Trekking up the creeks (especially the ones farther down from the hotel) was fun, but sandals are need because of the rocks.

The sun can be fierce and there's not many places to retreat under shade.
