- PeterHoltzman15 contributionsThe 17 Islands Marine Park has wonderful snorkeling and beautiful beaches, and Anto is a great guide.I just went on a one day trip to the 17 Islands Marine Park in Riung. It was great. We went to three locations for snorkeling and saw the Flying Fox colony of bats. The corals and tropical fish were spectacular.. The white sand beaches were beautiful. I was really fortunate to use Anto (WhatsApp +62 81237550811) as my guide. He was excellent and a really nice person. I highly recommend him. He was also a great cook. We stopped on one of the islands for lunch. Anto prepared a great grilled fish, which he served with aubergines, squid, rice, vegetables, salad, and fruit. It was as good as any restaurant l've been in. The people on the other boats that stopped to have lunch were envious. I had a wonderful time. If you are visiting Flores, definitely go to the 17 Islands Marine Park and contact Anto.Visited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 11, 2024
- eloise31111 contributionsLucky is the best captain in riungWe did 2 day trips with lucky and his crew and were really happy! The 1st day we went to the most common islands but left earlier than other boats so managed to have all the places for ourselves. The 2nd day we went to some less known islands and went back to a very good snorkelling site we really enjoyed the day before. Every day lucky ensured the itinerary was tailored to our requests and kept us on track all the time to ensure we made the most of our trip! The food was delicious and plentfull, the crew friendly and professional. Lucky charges way less than other people in riung but the service offered still was top notch! 100% recommended - you can reach him on WhatsApp +6281233528125 - just say Alex shared his number with youVisited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 18, 2024
- Bára VPrague, Czech Republic7 contributionsRelaxed boat tripWe took a boat trip with Lucky as mentioned in previous reviews and were very satisfied. At the end our captain was his brother which was fine as well. He took us to see several islands and spots for snorkeling. For lunch we met with Lucky's boat and few other tourists and the crew prepared a delicious lunch for us (grilled fish with rice, noodles, vegetable and more). Price was reasonable and we could rent snorkeling gear as well.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 6, 2024

Only noteworthy activity that starts in Riung. The excursion was organized by Paul, owner of the Riung Guesthose. We start from the small port with a typical boat (we shared it with two other English guys who were sleeping in our guest house) towards a first inlet where there are an enormous quantity of bats in the trees which start to fly with the noise of the boats; then you start snorkeling near other islands that make up this marine park. Our captain was clever in stopping on an island for lunch where no other boats were present. Excellent lunch based on fish cooked on the grill at the moment, vegetables, noodles, rice and fruit. Cost of the excursion 350,000 rupees each (if you divide the boat into 4)

During our tour from Labuanbajo to Maumere, we, two couples, stayed for two nights at the Bintang Wisata hotel in Riung. I had contacted the owner in advance to ask if he could arrange an excursion to the 17 Islands for the second day for the price of IDR. 400,000 p.p. That was no problem so we set off the day after arrival. We had read on the internet about a BBQ, consisting of fish, among other things, so we assumed it would be a simple lunch.
Nothing turned out to be further from the truth, but more about that later. In the morning we were taken to the very nearby port. Not much more than a small bay with a pier in the middle from which the excursion boats depart. We were met by Captain Halis and his crew, consisting of a nice guy and, as it turned out, an excellent cook. The trip first took us to Kalong Island (bat island). Because of the coral and the low water level we did not go to the beach, but it was a spectacular sight from the water. The trees and immediate surroundings looked black with bats. Then we sailed through the crystal clear water towards another island. We anchored off the coast to snorkel. We are used to something in that area from Curaçao to Australia, which has increasingly deteriorated over the years. The greater surprise was that there was still plenty of soft coral to be seen here with many tropical fish. Then we sailed to the next island with white beaches to start the BBQ. Rarely have you eaten such delicious fish and other dishes. Here again a compliment to Captain Halis and his shipmate. Finally, on the way back we visited another snorkeling spot before returning home. TIP: ask for captain Halis.

SEE MY OTHER POST of the amazing trip of camping on the deserted islands!
As I get many questions regarding how to contact Rian (as his number is blocked due to privacy reasons). Lets try again.
Me and my boyfriend went back in October 2019 to do the trip again! It was still amazing!!

I almost did not wanted to post this as it was so special! But here we go, because you should do this to, no doubt and therfore I am sharing it. Spread the love!
You Always wanted to camp under the most beautiful stars? See lightend plankton, white beaches, clear blue sea, starfish and coral and go snorkeling, the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets, manta's rays swimming around the islands, seashells allover as big as you have never seen them before and eating fresh fish / rice and vegetables every lunch and diner? Without any other tourist? It is possible and I did it.
I drove from airpot Ende (where I met Ryan before) on a scooter to Riung (3 hours) and then we got the boat from Riung to the 17 Islands for a 3 days, 2 night trip. The islands are deserted (only a few fishing boats passing by), I was there in March 2018 and it was one of the best experiences of my life! So amazing beautiful and in this low season I only paid 1,2 milion (about 70 euro). This includes everything, sleeping in the tent, food every day, the boat with captain and guide Ryan.
Ryan is a perfect guide and a great guy! He is always smiling! (his number is below)
Just make sure to be clear on things to agree on up front.
-If you are by yourself, you probably prefer to sleep in you own tent, so make sure he brings 2.
-Make sure to tick off the price up front.
-Make sure to check what is included in the price.
But this is anywhere in Indonesia, so no exception.
I did this trip all by myself with the 2 men and I was completely safe!
** When you are on the islands please keep them clean and help to collect some washed ashore plastic. ** Island love!

Our snorkeling trip to 17 islands including visit of the flying foxes was perfectly organized by Riung Boat Trip Organizer. Mat and Ardi took us to the best snorkeling places and BBQ on the beach was very delicious. The young coconut at the end of the trip was a nice surprise. You can contact Mat/Riung Boat Trip Organizer by whatsapp under +6281339501336

How do we go about booking this tour?
Written November 11, 2016
Hi Leonie, You can book this tour as you arrive (for the next day). I didn't stay in Riung. I stayed 20km from Riung (before if you are coming from Bajawa or Ende) in Eco Eden Flores (Their contacts are in Facebook). The diference from this one is that it's on the beach. It's a very simple but appealing place. The owner (Philip) is a great guy. We payed 600 000 for the 17 islands trip. Enjoy it.
