We only passed through this area on our way to the airport. I was quite impressed by the old heritage buildings, too bad many were abandoned and not well maintained.
Architecture and heritage building enthusiasts/ photographers would surely love to take a stroll or take photos here

Usually, China Towns in North America are dirty, not safe to travel, and basically slum areas. But the China Town in Padang is the opposite. I think it is cleaner than other streets in the city, quite safe as long as there are people around, and there were many great Chinese Padang restaurants. This town has almost convinced me that I was in China. The foods here are really nice too.

It's truly a Chinatown like one found in any other Indonesian city. It's busy & concentrated in one area of the city & in this case it is at an area called "Pondok" in Padang. This commercial area is lively throughout the day & until late night too with their roadside culinary offerings.
Interesting place to check out.

if you are looking for a real Chinatown (city in the city) you won't find it in Padang. There are only few electronic shops, one temple and few other stores.... Not worth to go there in my opinion.

The chinatown is a small part of the Padang Old Town area. Although it is not as grandiose as other chinatown it still has its own charm. Visit only if you have time.

Place is just one Street and most of the places weren't open at 8pm.
One museum type place was okay but small. Also the gate looked nice at evening.

I dont know its a tradition or what, actually in Padang they sell a lot of street drinks, one of them are KOPMIL or kopi milo or ( Coffee mix with milo ice ) and a lot of stall around China Town or the citizen always say Pondok district. Most young people like teens or colages spent their night to hang out in China Town a.k.a Pondok district. You should come here and try the food street.
Enjoy Padang!

Chinatown is actually a big name for only one street in Padang but still with some nice temples and some atmosphere.

more interesting are the former colonial dutch buildings, that might be much more dominating in the area if fully renovated once upon a time and then this chinese quarter will lose its gain
